misterpigs··on Oldest largest German Minecraft server shut down and open sourced everything
These servers were a lot of fun. You got to pay taxes _in a game_! But seriously they were a lot of fun.
misterpigs··on Claim: Private GitHub repos included in AI dataset
This is a nothingburger.

I have "private" repos listed in the dataset but they were all at one time public. Searching the SoftwareHeritage site I can find those once-public repos with ancient commits.

My private repos that were always private are not listed in the dataset.

misterpigs··on Twitter is threatening to sue Meta over Threads [pdf]
FACT CHECK:

They are usually _not_ bullshit.

misterpigs··on PyPI Was Subpoenaed
I love this level of transparency.
misterpigs··on My Youtube earnings
Wow this channel was the first lego experiment videos I watched. I thought this channel was the same (no clickbait, straight to the content, no voiceovers) https://www.youtube.com/@BrickTechnology but I was mistaken!
misterpigs··on The Zoom installer let a researcher hack his way to root access on macOS
Always through the browser!
misterpigs··on I only care about the helpful notifications, not the promotional ones
WAG is so shitty about this. I absolutely need notifications but they constantly nag you.
misterpigs··on Connect: A Better gRPC
Can I say _finally_ !!
misterpigs··on Ask HN: “Tank man” image search blocked on Bing and DuckDuckGo
DDG: image searching "tank man": "blocked by safe search" and then "sorry no results here" when disabling safe search entirely
misterpigs··on Mouse plague grows to biblical proportions across eastern Australia
Shawn Woods has a YouTube channel dedicated to trapping mice and other rodents. Most of his traps are homemade and don't require uncommon materials. A bucket, ramp, and water does the trick a lot of the time. https://www.youtube.com/user/historichunter
misterpigs··on Helsinki Relocation Package: City as a Service
You're assuming that whatever you're stricken with leaves you in good enough health to continue working.
misterpigs··on Starz Doesn’t Like News About Leaked TV-Shows, Takes Down TorrentFreak Tweet
I didn't know Twitter dealt with DCMA abuse as well; I've always seen reports about YouTube or Google receiving bogus claims.
misterpigs··on Self-driving cars will "cruise" to avoid paying to park
I like this future.
misterpigs··on Why Do Women Earn Less Than Men? Evidence from Bus and Train Operators [pdf]
Headlines should reflect this finding but then that wouldn't garner as many views. It seems that this pay difference argument is often framed as something done maliciously or purposefully by the employer instead of neutral decisions made in response to decisions made by the employee.

Naturally whomever is caring for children will want more flexibility at work and receive different pay to accommodate this, regardless of if that person is a man or a woman.

misterpigs··on Getting 1Password 7 ready for the Mac App Store
I use 1pass on my phone. I have a long password (English phrase) that I only use with 1pass I guess I've entered it enough times on mobile that I don't mistype it often.

I use it to generate new passwords for whatever signups/apps I need on mobile, also for logging into websites on mobile. The workflow for password managers in mobile safari works very well.

I don't enable FaceID/TouchID/PIN for 1Password, but I do have it enabled for my device.

misterpigs··on The MacBook Air: A Decade’s Worth of Legacy
I was upgrading from a medium spec second gen Intel MacBook Pro so the performance hit wasn't as drastic for me. Development was fine honestly. The Air was my primary development machine for the next 4 years.
misterpigs··on The MacBook Air: A Decade’s Worth of Legacy
I took the plunge with the second gen MacBook Air after seeing fellow devs at WWDC haul them around as if they were nothing. I initially noticed the slower HDD and performance hit, but didn't miss it after the first week. The mobility was a huge boon. I was working for myself and often meeting clients or working from the coffee shop, bar, etc. I held on to it until the MacBook caught up in size/weight.

Source: me. I write iOS apps.
