mmnfrdmcx··on MCP Explained
MCPs with oauth have a better security story
mmnfrdmcx··on MCP Explained
it's becoming pretty mainstream, lots of (ordinary, non-dev) people connecting google docs/slides, notion, linear etc to their claude or cowork
mmnfrdmcx··on Twelve years of distributed SQLite
Unfamiliarity/unwillingness to deal with the infrastructure admin
mmnfrdmcx··on Twelve years of distributed SQLite
Equally easy to set up postgres with all teh bells and whistles you like using AI nowadays
mmnfrdmcx··on Twelve years of distributed SQLite
As someone who loved sqlite and the simplicity, the truth is that with agents I am finding it is extremely easy to manage postgres and it is realyl nice having all the SQL features of postgres -- sqlite is quite limiting in a lot of SQL. So if you are considering remote sqlite and all that, feels a better time than ever to just use a database server. Of course, sqlite is amazing for local tools etc.
mmnfrdmcx··on OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud
We have asked them about this, openai spend only counts as partnership and only up to 25% of your commitment can be spent on partners
mmnfrdmcx··on Incident with Actions, Pull Requests and Issues
For a small team I setup Forgejo with self hosted CI on Framework desktop. Connect via Tailscale. Runs amazingly well, feels good to have independence from this
mmnfrdmcx··on Postgres isn't slow, your storage is
Cloud is insanely expensive and inefficient. Too many engineers don't understand how slow I/O back and forth is on network storage, or VMs with chatty neighbors are compared to bare metal...

mmnfrdmcx··on OpenJev
Agree, except the probabilities for outcomes in the structured output. I don't think you can get those for most frontier LLMs (logprobas). You can get it for open source models but not frontier LLMs.
mmnfrdmcx··on A heap overflow and SSO misconfiguration to compromise OpenAI internal repos
Found it interesting that a company with this sort of a valuable IP would be using internet reachable GitHub (not behind an internal network / VPN?) and a bunch of safeguards for the IP. What's to stop one disgruntled employee from leaking the entire monorepo to a competitor?
mmnfrdmcx··on An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry
Unimaginable luxury, what are you in about. Have you ever even been outside of US?

mmnfrdmcx··on It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness
> I have a corollary hypothesis which is that only young people are actually conscious. One day you go to bed and your mind never wakes up, but your body keeps on living the automaton till you actually die.

Thank you for a new existential fear unlocked. Why do you believe this?

Reminds me of https://www.theintrinsicperspective.com/p/they-die-every-day

mmnfrdmcx··on Ask HN: What is the best FOSS file sharing protocol/app?
A fair point, I use tailscale for other things too, so it's a freebie
mmnfrdmcx··on Ask HN: What is the best FOSS file sharing protocol/app?
So that it has a connection even if I am outside of my home network
mmnfrdmcx··on Ask HN: What is the best FOSS file sharing protocol/app?
I have made a setup that I am really proud of.

Syncthing + Tailscale + old Raspberry Pi + external USB SSD disks + restic for backup + B2

Raspberry Pi OS + syncthing data is on one SSD disk (encrypted)

Restic backs up to second SSD disk (encrypted) and a separate (encrypted) backup is sent to B2

mmnfrdmcx··on Python errors as values: Comparing useful patterns from Rust and Go
Agreed. It's also objectively worse because you lose the stack trace in the final exception you will display to your user. Enjoy debugging that when a customer sends you an error.
mmnfrdmcx··on Python errors as values: Comparing useful patterns from Rust and Go
I don't agree with this post.

Engineering is about tradeoffs.

There is more advantage in doing the accepted python solution (exceptions) than inventing your own (which you claim to be better, but I personally think is worse). If you are developing in a team, stick to established conventions and spend your time focusing on your business problem.

mmnfrdmcx··on We Have to Talk About Flask
The flask-login package should have limited its dependencies to flask<3.0, that's what major versions are for.
