does it matter?
moeadham··on There are now 5 inference providers for abliterated DeepSeek
its a model that has had all of its refusal behavior removed. It will do whatever you ask.
moeadham··on There are now 5 inference providers for abliterated DeepSeek
actually if you're not careful, many times they will. if you are using one of these definitely don't leave "auto" mode enabled.

It will refuse a number of things. Ask it to make a captcha solver for you.

how so? these models have had refusal directions specifically removed from their weights. they refuse virtually no requests.

Looks like the cat is out of the bag. So what does the world look like with completely open access to zero-alignment models?

i ended up having to hot swap in an abliterated model just to solve the captchas and then move on.
moeadham··on I spent $220 on Google app ads and 60% of the installs were robots
I understand the mobile bot farms monetization (publish app with ads, have bot farm click on ads in your app).

I don’t understand the reddit ad clicks though. How does the bot farm profit? Is there some way to earn money hosting reddit ads?

ugh PMAX is such a scam. I can’t believe there is a PM somewhere getting paid good money to completely light Googles’ reputation on fire.
moeadham··on Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU
You seem to forget that Canada was one of the first countries to strike a deal with Trump.

The he unilaterally scrapped the deal because of “fentanyl”.

moeadham··on Stripe will reportedly acquire OpenRouter for $7B+
shares. its paper. they issue new shares to buy the company. yes, its dilution, but its not the same as cash.
moeadham··on Ask HN: What Is Stripe Today?
If you take a closer look at OpenRouter, it is a Cloudflare + Stripe wrapper.

Payments are core to their business. They only charge 5%, of which probably 3-3.5% goes directly to stripe. So they are making maybe 1%. If they have any payments fraud it takes a crazy amount of volume to make up for it.

So, the openrouter aquisition makes a lot of sense to me. I suspect almost all of openrouter growing pains are payments related.

moeadham··on Show HN: SmallDocs – Markdown without the frustrations
I had not heard of url fragments before. Is there a size cap?
moeadham··on Show HN: Visibl – turns audiobooks into graphic novels
Hey HN, I’m Moe (YC S14). I built visibl mostly for myself, then decided to open source it in case others find the idea interesting or useful (apache2).

I’ve always found my mind wandering with audiobooks, and after interruptions I often have trouble getting back into the story. Visibl is my attempt to make audiobooks more visual and easier to re-enter.

A likely question is how inference is funded: right now I’m just paying for it myself. I’ve had some success in the past, so hopefully this doesn’t bankrupt me.

Happy to answer any questions, and would love any feedback.

moeadham··on Introspective Diffusion Language Models
Well, you can take the output of a first pass and pass it back through the model like AR “reasoning” models do at inference time.

moeadham··on xAI joins SpaceX
In fairness, solar cells can be about 5x more efficient in space (irradiance, uptime).
moeadham··on Meta invests $14.3B in Scale AI to kick-start superintelligence lab
Looks like they are distributing a dividend to shareholders (14$, well below $25), and then diluting everyone.

Has anyone heard a bull case on being a minority shareholder in Scale.ai after this deal? Seems a bit like late stake investors are getting thrown under a bus.
