moi2388··on Blender's UI and Runtime: Much Faster Than GPUI
Now if only we could peer review our peers’ reviews..
moi2388··on University libraries are being swarmed by AI bots, putting public access at risk
Well I have experience with universities, and their IT is horrendous. Departments are little kingdoms, none of them agree on procedures, architecture, data formats or even care about the absolute basics of software development or security.

It really isn’t a resource problem. It’s that academia is ruled by little princes who are full of themselves.

moi2388··on Could a modern chess engine on a Pentium have defeated Kasparov in 1996?
Man, I miss Naroditsky. Such good content and such a sweet person.
moi2388··on Postman silently auto-installs AI plugins and attempts to share all API data
Thank god we moved to Bruno and sometimes just http files in vs code or jetbrains
moi2388··on US boy names that became girl names and vice versa
Absolutely. For example, you can’t name your kid “dipshit” for obvious reasons.
moi2388··on Could a modern chess engine on a Pentium have defeated Kasparov in 1996?
I’m around 1800-1900 and they don’t consider more moves or positions than I do at all. It’s just that their analysis is correct and mine is not even close.

I actually don’t know this for sure, I should say that they don’t verbalise more moves than I think about. It’s plausible and perhaps even likely that they have a lot of moves or positions they do touch on but immediately discard so don’t even verbalise.

moi2388··on Nurses Sound Alarm as 'Uber for Nursing' Apps Push to Deregulate Healthcare
It’s important to note that in most countries the law even states that they need to pay competitive salaries for these positions, so they can’t even pay them much lower amounts than their non profit counterparts
moi2388··on AI, Lean, and the Future of Formal Verification, with Lean Creator Leo de Moura
Can you try to get it to only specify interfaces first? Then tests, the write code to implement
moi2388··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Because it’s not religious. Under the lemon clause the government has to make a distinction between religious and secular beliefs.
moi2388··on SS United States to be sunk as largest artificial reef
And in Yiddish it means “a person of integrity and honour”
moi2388··on Apple's git still trusts the compromised eMudhra certificates
I’m somewhat of an Apple fanboy, and I find this absolutely unacceptable.
moi2388··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Whilst I’m in favour of the result, how is it possible for a humanist viewpoint to be classified as a religious belief?
moi2388··on Birdwatching rewires the brain and slows cognitive decline
Is it not? Perhaps phones make us better at (and finding more joy in) quickly switching tasks, rather than in reducing maximum sustained attention.

At least this study would seem to suggest something similar.

moi2388··on Code-execution flaw in UEFI firmware threatens most servers on planet Earth

moi2388··on Prisoner loses challenge to an Australian state’s ban on inmates eating Vegemite
“ Vegemite had been banned throughout the state’s 12 prisons for the past 20 years because it could potentially impair sniffer dogs’ ability to detect narcotics and could be used to brew alcohol because of its yeast content”

Well yes, but you can brew alcohol out of almost anything.

Also, everything “potentially” impairs sniffers dogs ability. Including attention. The question is, does it actually?

moi2388··on Europe's summer heat wave killed more han 50k people in urban areas
I would very much like the nursing home to ensure my family member drank enough every day.

In fact, it’s the bare minimum I’d expect.

moi2388··on Amazon’s “digital pacifier” for toddlers
True, but them letting their kid use a screen once when you happen to see it is in no way an indication of bad parenting.
moi2388··on Amazon’s “digital pacifier” for toddlers
Nothing feeds imagination more than boredom. Kids should get bored much more often; they’ll come up with some very creative play afterward.
moi2388··on Birdwatching rewires the brain and slows cognitive decline
How many of these people before simply paused the movie to get a snack or converse a bit?
moi2388··on Europe's summer heat wave killed more han 50k people in urban areas
Isn’t most of it old people who forget to drink though?

Perhaps nursing homes should nurse, and ensure people drink enough?

moi2388··on Removing Next.js Got My Blog to 100 on Every Lighthouse Category
Npm? It’s just the package manager. You can use pnpm or yarn or bun if you like?

If you ever dealt with indian software companies you would also know it to be an accurate statement, however
moi2388··on Dutch National Cyber Security Center is Offline because it uses PHP
Right.. php sites and Wordpress never had security issues before AI. Totally fine ecosystem to be in.
moi2388··on In Hilbert space, all things are quantumly possible
He means that 3 is not between 0 and 1, which it really isn’t.
moi2388··on Developers Are Using AI to Strip Ads and Tracking from Smart TVs
No because the units sold line goes up but the revenue per device goes down so they will look at ways to extract more money per unit, like ads
moi2388··on Anthropic's proposed AI safety bill only kicks in if 50 deaths or $1B in damages
All of them. So that next time each of them will take responsibility and ask how they can prevent this from happening.
moi2388··on Dogs seem to agree with humans that 'bouba' is round and 'kiki' is spiky
When I studied psychology 20 years ago we had a class which covered this, and at least then there were studies indeed showing these associations are exactly due to these phonetic identifiers.
