moonsu··on You said no MCP
It sounds like you and I are having very different experiences in the AI era.

Good luck

moonsu··on You said no MCP
If that works for you great but I am where I am in my career by helping everyone I can around me. Making my team and the company better pays dividends and you stand out from people that only work for themselves.
moonsu··on Making Claude a Chemist
I wonder if chemistry skills will be an emergent behaviour of world model research.
moonsu··on OpenAI O3-Mini
This is the mini version which is not as good as o1 and I don’t think they demoed in the o3 announcement. I’m hoping the full release will be impressive
moonsu··on OpenAI O3-Mini
Did they even think about what happens when they get to o4? We’re going to have GPT-4o and o4
moonsu··on Show HN: An open-source notification infrastructure
There’s also https://www.notificationapi.com/ as a non free option
moonsu··on Inflection-2: the next step up
Why? You’re not going to be running it on your own hardware. As an end user all that matters are the results.
moonsu··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
> The truth is before this Sam was basically running circles around the board and doing whatever he wanted on the profit side- that's what was pissing them off so much in the first place. He was even trying to depose board members who were openly critical of open AI's practices.

Do you have a source for this?

moonsu··on Ask HN: Who has deployed commercial features using GPT4?
I’ve found v4 to be much better at following formatting. If I put “reply with code only” in the system message then I don’t get all the explanations.

The system message is completely useless in 3.5 though and you’re better off putting your instructions in the first user message.

I haven’t used v4 in production yet though because it is so slow. I really hope they speed it up.

moonsu··on Show HN: Is It Worth the Cost?
> 4. From a financial point of view, I’m still paying the employee and the service, so either I need enough services and time savings that I can eliminate a job, or the service has to have positive ROI of its own.

More likely, there's other work that the employee could be doing that will help your company grow

moonsu··on Canada aims to ban single-use plastics by 2021
Do you expect a headline to tell you the whole story?
moonsu··on USA buys up world stock of remdesivir
That compound in particular is used to help replace a C-OH bond with a C-CN bond. It may seem like a weird chemical but it's very commonly used in organic synthesis.

> Why wouldn't the same but with a more typical fully-carbon backbone work?

Because a fully carbon backbone would not be as reactive and would not attach/detach from the intermediate as needed

moonsu··on Introduction to Permaculture (1994)
Another great channel to follow is Rob Avis https://www.youtube.com/user/VergePermaculture

He's an engineer from the oil and gas industry and he's excellent at designing for energy efficiency

moonsu··on Solar Fire Breakthrough
There will certainly be maintenance costs during that 20 years though.

I do like the idea that as PV efficiencies improve you only have to swap out one cell per dish

moonsu··on Solar Fire Breakthrough
Have any idea how much a ZenithSolar unit costs? Apparently they've given an Israeli community of 1100 people a surplus of electricity with only 16 units.
moonsu··on Solar Fire Breakthrough
Zenith Solar is certainly more advanced. Thanks for pointing it out.

The difference between the two projects though is open source vs proprietary. Zenith looks very impressive but Solar Fire is meant to put solar power cheaply and easily into anyone's hands. They are both worth following IMO

moonsu··on Solar Fire Breakthrough
They have a TED Talk which is exciting to watch as well

moonsu··on Track Amazon.com price drops with Firefox and Chrome addon
Doesn't work for Chromium 10 on Linux unfortunately
moonsu··on Track Amazon.com price drops with Firefox and Chrome addon
Does it apply to amazon.ca?

edit: just read the FAQ. Hope to see support soon.

moonsu··on Ask HN: Review my startup, http://UpOut.com
There is no way to close the "Currently available cities". You should add an X or allow it to disappear when the user presses Esc or clicks outside

Really great site though!
