mr_sturd··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
Along with farfatched's suggestions, you could look into Postmarket OS (based on Alpine Linux).

The devices page on their wiki shows compatibility with specific devices - https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices

mr_sturd··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
Willing to give this a try as the latest Bazzite image wrecked my Sunshine configuration - I wasted last night trying to re-install via FlatPak. With access to kscreen-doctor blocked, and anything else useful on the system, I never got it working.

I much prefer the idea of this where I don't have to worry about resizing the existing screen.

mr_sturd··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
So the solution should be to publish the models + weights in a book.
mr_sturd··on Brexit Ten Years On: The Economy
If there were another vote, the media circus, and manipulation via social media would make sure we stay out.
mr_sturd··on Show HN: Piruetas – A self-hosted diary app I built for my girlfriend
Have tested again and it's working for me now.

Can confirm that that username and password are not working in the login page.
mr_sturd··on Your hex editor should color-code bytes
Plus the built-in parsers for well known formats!
mr_sturd··on Pocketblue – Fedora Atomic for mobile devices
This is very interesting. I'm dying for a decent Linux-native, ARM-based laptop which can double as a tablet for casual use.

My eyes are currently on the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 as it seems to tick most boxes on PMOS' compatibility matrix.

mr_sturd··on GOG has had to hire private investigators to track down IP rights holders
I'm sure this was alluded to in NOCLIP's YouTube documentary on GOG[0].

It was said then that half of the battle was tracking down rights holders as IP had sometimes been absorbed through multiple acquisitions by the time they came to restore some games.

mr_sturd··on How I bypassed Amazon's Kindle web DRM
Looks nice. Shame it doesn't have OPDS support, but it's nice to see that it's a planned feature in their GitHub README!
mr_sturd··on Ask HN: What are you using your Raspberry Pi for?
My longest running Raspberry Pis are using HifiBerry HATs. Acting as SnapCast clients, forming a poor man's Sonos system throughout the house. The oldest running Pi is a 2.
mr_sturd··on Debian 13 “Trixie”
What was the process for this? Does it involve manually modifying the sources.lists files, or is there a single command to instigate the upgrade?
mr_sturd··on 1KB JavaScript Demoscene Challenge Just Launched
This is great! I remember taking part in the first JS1K competition. For some reason, I wrote most of the code semi "optimised" before running it through a "proper" optimiser. Good times!

mr_sturd··on Mac Themes Garden
I remember trying to make my own on Windows XP. If I remember correctly, the theme files could be opened with an application which extracted resources from .exe and .dll files.
mr_sturd··on What, if anything, should I do about using Mozilla's Firefox
The problem with Chromium is that it's controlled by Google. Given they control the engine in the majority of browsers, they get to call the shots on the direction of the web as a whole.
mr_sturd··on Show HN: Movie Iris - Visualizing Films Through Color Extraction
I think the choice of Hero is based on a similar idea to this, too.
mr_sturd··on Is Chrome the New IE? (2023)
It's always nice to meet a fellow neverChrome.
mr_sturd··on Let's Write a Reverb (2021)
Thanks for this, Geraint! I've been trying to get a better understanding in programming for DSP, and blog posts like this are a big help with that.

I have subscribed to your blog.

mr_sturd··on Self-healing 'living skin' can make robots more humanlike
I only saw a few episodes of the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but I always loved the detail of what was, presumably, a 600 series terminator holding a group of them hostage in a house.
mr_sturd··on iPhone 15 Pro Storage Expansion – 128GB to 512GB [video]
The specialised fixture for the board was impressive, too!
mr_sturd··on Cosmic Desktop: Hammering Out New Cosmic Features
Still waiting for them to drop Magnum.
mr_sturd··on Earth Received a Message Laser-Beamed from 10M Miles Away in NASA Test
In the case of Perseverance, I think data has to be sent in batches to a relay satellite and the forwarded back to Earth. That time when the satellite has line-of-sight with the rover is short, before the signal is lost, and it has to wait before continuing.

It'll mean more data can be sent in these batches from what I understand.

mr_sturd··on Judge rules Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto
One simple way of proving that he is - by signing a message using the private key of one of the addresses to recieve Bitcoin close to the blockchain's genesis.
mr_sturd··on Show HN: NeedleDrop – Guess the movie from a song
This is great. I used to play this sort of game with friends, with our phones on a Bluetooth speaker.

I was on my last go when the screenshot gave it away for me. There were two options available in the search, but it seems I guessed correctly!

mr_sturd··on The long-running joke of a moon made of cheese
Without a single mention of Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out!
mr_sturd··on Sora: Creating video from text
Think happy thoughts to reply.
mr_sturd··on End of Life for Twilio Authy Desktop App
KeePassDX works with 2FA on Android, but I've had trouble with tokens synced to XC on desktop.

mr_sturd··on Did you already break the Elliptic Curve, Satoshi, you there?
Most likely Szabo.
mr_sturd··on After 34 years, someone beat Tetris [video]
Unreal achievements being made in the game. I hope the "rebirth" screen can be reached!

I'm left wondering if the game score be overflowed to produce different kill screens?
