mrhackerpoland··on Cern scientist: 'Physics built by men – not by invitation'
I come from Poland where girls either choose a) medicine b) pyscology c) fashion related gig like hair dressers, tailor d) modeling (often most pretty girls choose this)

Here in Poland, entry level gigs in technology companies pay way less than modeling gigs these days.

I asked many of those girls who went into modeling and fashion related jobs, they always said, they found it easier and more rewarding than jobs where someome else might steal their credit.

> Maybe because Instagram millionaires are about as common as sports millionaires?

If you enjoy it, that's good. But not everyone enjoys it and that's why STEM has lower praticipation from females and that's what we are discussing here.

I didn't say millionaire anywhere. Many modeling gigs pay more than entry level median salaries in STEM.

It's about efforts vs reward. People in STEM require years of education compared to posting a product review on Instgram which doesn't even require a high school certificate.

Don't compare it to Pro football players either which is very risky and requires years of training and money.

My partner was multi millionaire from Belrus who owned a steal rolling company.

Now, he took whatever he had and moved to states.

He got his company raided and government officals took over it.

Anyways, if the situation has improved, that's a good news :)

What if you guys are reported to the dictator and the officals sieze your app and revenue?

There are female influencer making lot of money on Instagram by posting photos of their bodies, makeup kits, outfits etc.... who are making way more than median pay in STEM career.

I don't understand why would any woman choose STEM when batter paying gigs are available to them.

mrhackerpoland··on What I Learned from Having Steve Jobs Swear at Me
His style of management got him success which he envisioned, why would he change it?
mrhackerpoland··on What I Learned from Having Steve Jobs Swear at Me
I am a masocist, i wouldn't be in development getting insulted by a lifeless computer everyday if i was normal.

Anyone who insults me and motivates to offer my best, gets my respect and best work. Heck, i would work for more hours if you can offer me such cortisol+dopamine effect which comes from such treatment.

Think about this. Who struggles with a lifeless computer when they only get the sufferings and frustration which comes with it?

Swearing at me is the least you could do to provoke any response.

I like Steve Jobs and I've yet to find the CEOs who are like him. This is probably why there is no other apple.

mrhackerpoland··on What I Learned from Having Steve Jobs Swear at Me
Most likely what will happen is not what you think.

They'll do nothing and successice complaints will remove you from a role which requires you interfacing with the CEO and then someone else who is capable of taking these blows will get the compesation and influence you had when you were in that role.

It's a balancing act, you can't have everything your way.

mrhackerpoland··on What I Learned from Having Steve Jobs Swear at Me
What I've seen is that people who take it up with HR get blacklisted after multiple complaints and will not find much success. You need perseverance to take every blow and still stand on your feet.
mrhackerpoland··on What I Learned from Having Steve Jobs Swear at Me
When i first worked in Finland for a very successful mobile game development company, the project manager told me, whatever you are working on is complete shit, we can't afford you to be wasting our money on this. Every single minute you spend in arguing for your idea is paid by us which is true.

After that i got a blow to my ego and started doing what manager told me to. Looking back, i was really wasting their money and once i got blow to my ego, my productivity drastically increased.

I used to be fast learning workholic and yes, i need constant blows to my ego to prevent me from derailing myself into oblivion. So, i would have respect Steve jobs, if he would have been asshole to me.

Edit: I simply detailed my personal experience, so I don't understand your downvotes.

5 million USD revenue: adplexity.com

Enough to pay 3 fulltime engineers.

100K yearly AWS expense.

Running several scraps....scraping ads and listing them on site.

Most developers don't know where the market demand is, so they don't make a lot of money.

mrhackerpoland··on Ask HN: Software engineers earning = 200k€ in Europe, how did you get there?
Product: https://adplexity.com/

3 devs, 5 million USD revenue.

300K salary each + equity.

100K used yearly expense for running bots.

It's possible if you create your own product.

Now, there is to do is...run a few bots and scrap ads then list it with Elastic Search and sell it to advertisers.

Why other developers do not make such money? Because they don't know where they market demand is.

There is India around the corner with Japan having excellent ties with it.

Next Alibaba will be in India and Mayoshi probably knows it.

mrhackerpoland··on Germans don’t do tech startups – more access to capital might change that
The largest German startup is Wirecard.

If you received a prepaid card from online service like Payoneer, highly likely you've consumed services of this startup indirectly.

There is also Dr. Bentz, creator of Bentz Bone which many people in Silicion Valley have used.

mrhackerpoland··on Germans don’t do tech startups – more access to capital might change that
You answered that question. But Americans are being offered more compesation in American, why would they follow this CEO and move to Germany?

You need examples from countries which are less prosperous than Germany.

Where are Chinese, Indian, Ethopian CEOs of German companies?

mrhackerpoland··on Germans don’t do tech startups – more access to capital might change that
Startups need immigrants. Germany only accept immigrants from EU, not from China or India which produce cheapest empoyees offering max value.

One key difference is that Startups lack fund.

So either:

1. Funding be made more generous by offering tax advantages to invesitors

2. Or, biggest expense are employees, so we need employees accepting a dream stock unit and very low wage, so we can hire more of them.

But I've talked with German employees, literally, none of them will accept more money for more work. There is very strong emphasis on work life balance unlike US. So only way to overcome this issue is to get larger funding and that's smth government needs to fix.

That way startup can become more competitive.

mrhackerpoland··on Germans don’t do tech startups – more access to capital might change that
Startups are not average cushy corporate job.

The only way to get any startup to work in EU is by importing immigrants and they'll work hard on their own and compensating them appropriately and making sure they can reach top ranks in a company otherwise no one will ne motivated to work hard.

Germany has infrastructure. Taxes are not that bad.

Any country which will accept foreigners with open heart and give them opportunities will have plenty of startups.

There are still clubs in Germany which do not accept people of color.

mrhackerpoland··on Germans don’t do tech startups – more access to capital might change that
It's because they don't need to. Startups often include difficult and intense work environment. For exactly what? Better than average compensation discussion is frowned upon in Germany. There is ramphant latent descrimination against people from other countries. Which German company has a foreign born CEO?

In US, Google and Microsoft have foreign born CEOs.

This is my own experience, so downvoting is only silencing a voice.

About Adiyogi being a myth, we've established archeological proof of the sites, so it's not simply a myth, it's debatable.

What should i read from the link you posted, if it's you reading that text and accepting it as 'truth' then let me tell you, it's nothing more than your belief (ground for a shared madness or religious maybe?). It's not science, I've experience in academia, i already know how the data is cherry picked to match the narrative of the person or whoever is paying for the study. I won't accept it.

As for me, I've been using Cannabis for years, i already know what it has changed in my life. It's all positive.

mrhackerpoland··on Ask HN: What things have richly rewarded the time invested in mastering them?
From my experience:

After my startup got acquired, i ended up with lots of money (10s of millions, small start-up) and time. This created a vacuum in my life. I was very sad having finally made it.

I had no purpose in life.

Since then,

Self Acutualization - walking the path devised by yogic culture of spritualism.

Cannabis - The king of herbs, it helps me in self Acutualization and achieving state of trance aka ultimate ignorance.

Knowledge is only born out of something you don't know. If i accept my ignorance, suddenly it's no longer ignornance but something 'unknown'

If you already know something, then you won't gain any knowledge from there.

What did i gain? Finally, i am happy and content. My all questions about life have been answered. I've no need of traveling afar and exploring new places, I've no desire to travel back in past or future or to some distant planet.

My roommate received this device too.

Having observed its activity. It doesn't steal any data.

It simply setups a ssh dynamic tunnel and uses your network IP for accessing your Facebook account which you sold.

Why? Because Fb locks the account the moment it's accessed from a different network from a different device.

Can it steal your data? Absolutely yes! Does it steal? Probably no.

Afaik, all they want is your fb account for which they pay you.
