My game YOYOZO was featured in Ars Technica's "Best Games of 2023" alongside Super Mario Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3, and more. Oh, and it is only 39 KB.

My moment of enlightenment was using an Atari ST in 1990. Macintosh user since 1995.

msephton··on "That was a frank interview." A 61-game chat with the CEO of Atari
Paywalled
msephton··on Lemmings CSS Animation
Psygnosis were the publisher, DMA Design were the developers (you might know them from their other big game: Grand Theft Auto)
msephton··on Kernel.sh Hacked
all lower case and bad grammar doesn’t instill confidence
msephton··on Kitty 0.50
Same caveats apply to Kitty author’s other app Calibre (ebook manager)
msephton··on The Lost Malloc()
Title has been incorrectly capitalised, should be malloc() because it’s code
msephton··on Did Gary Huber and I invent screen-space reflections on the Amiga in 1995?
Also horizontal scrolling beyond the narrow column of text.
msephton··on Show HN: NES Contra (1987) port (ASM –> C and then C –> WebAssembly)
A couple months ago I wrote about this kind of transcompilation hop-skip-jump: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49643284

I used it to get games written in Lua running on SNES and in my own language/engine running on Dreamcast, Wii, Web and more.

msephton··on My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii
Wii turns 20 on 19th November 2026.
msephton··on AmiSC 68K: An Amiga 68k port of the best space RTS strategy game
The game is StarCraft, I had to hunt through the readme for that info!
msephton··on F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS
Having read some of what this project had to do to fit 3DS, if you think “the only thing learned was how to use LLMs” then I don’t know what to say to you other than...are you sure about that?
msephton··on Shigeru Miyamoto on Gen AI
Google Translate https://www-ndw-jp.translate.goog/nintendo-interview-261023/...
msephton··on Who assigned Cut, Copy, Paste, and Undo to X, C, V, and Z?
Maybe it doesn't, but it's interesting history that a decision made can withstand the tests of time as much as this.
msephton··on Initial Opinion of Amiga
USENET in 1986. Amazing.
msephton··on Nordwand Mono – A monospace font for coders and adventurers
I’m not sure I’ll use this (I’m an MD IO Trial user) but I will say that finding a font you can read without thinking is one of the greatest productivity boosts as a developer.
msephton··on AmiDiskLab: Open-source app for organizing Amiga disk and software collections
Old reddit requires login
msephton··on A faster Bluetooth Over-The-Air update for the ESP32: from minutes to seconds
Another day, another groundrun ESP32 post
msephton··on What ArtCraft's Vibe-Coded Apps Say About Adobe
Did you try the downloads?
msephton··on 15-year search for a band that charted once and vanished
DiscMaster can also search within archives by filename or content of the file! So if you knew the name of a theme that might have been another route.
msephton··on A browser-native classic Visual Basic VB6 IDE
Super cool! Brings back so many memories. I wrote some very popular apps in VB back in the Windows 9x era: hot corners, screen savers, notes app, and many more.
msephton··on ESP-SDR Firmware Turns ESP32 into a 2.4/5 GHz Software-Defined Radio (SDR)
This has been posted once a day for the last 5 days. I only know because my reader has saved search capability with ESP32 as a keyword.
msephton··on Hole Punch: Sling your spaceship around gravitational fields
Tap the black hole and it gives you ability to add and remove.
msephton··on ADHD, autism or complex trauma? [pdf]
I recommend seeing a specialist for a proper diagnosis. It'll be worth it.
msephton··on Apple Pass Designer
When I worked at Apple a dozen years ago I pushed hard for this to be built. We were using our own slap dash solution, but we wanted something everybody could use.

Better late than never!

msephton··on Show HN: Ito – streaming neural TTS for the ESP32-S3 (4.9 MB, no NPU, no cloud)
Curious why it's not been tested on hardware?
msephton··on ModRetro + Codex
So the ModRetro × OpenAI collab only requires a free plugin for you to develop GBC games in the Codex the app

But play-testing on a real Chromatic requires a firmware update and API key that came in the box with the DevDay devices

https://support.modretro.com/en_us/chromatic-devday-edition-...

I just tried it and prompted a GBC version of YOYOZO, my GOTY game. Wild times.

msephton··on RSS Feeds for Last.fm
Cool!

I'm wondering why my recommended tracks are different between the two feed formats? Same uid as here.

Also, my JSON feed doesn't seem to validate and is not served with the proper MIME type.

msephton··on ESP32 can stream I/Q up to 80MSPS 10bit from 2GHz/5GHz by tapping Wifi/BT stage
> turn supported chips into low-cost software-defined radio receivers for the 2.4 GHz band
msephton··on Novelist accused of using AI to write book removed from French prize list
Sad to see such unfounded claims tarnishing the work of this author. Surely it should be innocent until proven guilty. These text analysers all say different things about a piece of text, yet here the result of one has taken away this guy’s prize and perhaps career. There’s a legal case for defamation, surely?
msephton··on NOTE4 – a $55 ESP32 S3 e-ink task display with open API's
Which of these images is a photo of a real physical device? It seems to me that they are all a mix of renders and ai images (the ones where the speaker holes are not evenly spaced, and with nonsense text on nearby keyboards). I don't necessarily mind, but such images don't sell the device. I want to see a real one being used.

Also: I can buy it on AliExpress right now so I don't see the point of a waitlist.

msephton··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
Made my day.
