multinglets··on In Memoriam: Ian Murdock
You mean, links like archives of his now-removed tweets where he himself is imploring us to investigate what's happened to him?

Nonsense. Absolute nonsense.

multinglets··on Kazakhstan to MitM all HTTPS traffic starting Jan 1
At least they're fucking telling people they're doing it.
multinglets··on File Says N.S.A. Found Way to Replace Email Surveillance Program
It's just such an elusive pattern. The NSA wants to collect information about digital comms AND they have the ability to eavesdrop/split network traffic at the infrastructure level... I just know there's something there -- there's SOME kind of link between those two concepts -- but I can't quite connect the dots yet.

Oh well, this will be a good data point, so I'm glad to know this one particular thing isn't some kind of conspiracy theory (always have be careful about those conspiracy theories; they're just so tone deaf and reactionary).

multinglets··on Bread is Broken
I've been tracking what I eat for a while, and one thing I've noticed is that bread makes me hungrier and I feel worse. I've completely dropped bread, and my life has improved dramatically.
multinglets··on Incomplete List of Mistakes in the Design of CSS
I can't help but wonder if the vertical margin collapsing (in general) would have seemed worth it if we weren't borrowing concepts from print media.
multinglets··on How Facebook knows who you might be dating online
Yeah, I haven't actually used facebook for anything in years, so now I'm deleting my account and I will use a temporary phone for any future situation where I need it.

I will also be going out of my way to spread as much FUD among my less tech savvy friends as I possibly can.

Go Zuck yourself, Mark.

multinglets··on Seattle, in Midst of Tech Boom, Tries to Keep Its Soul
The people who (allegedly) don't perceive Seattle's shitty attitude are almost guaranteed to already be card-carrying turboleftist hipsters + standard uniform, pretty much every single time.

edit: OK, sometimes they're attractive college-aged women. Because progressives have such deep respect for their cultural contributions and intuition, I'm sure.

multinglets··on From Radio to Porn, British Spies Track Web Users’ Online Identities
The solution is for everyone to mess with their signal-to-noise ratio. Make alts. Tell lies. Use VPNs. Encrypt trivial conversations. Use steganography for real secrets. If they like the job security, give them their damn job security by giving them nothing else.
multinglets··on IBM Watson Tone Analyzer
Take out the "a" and it is.
multinglets··on The Creative Apocalypse That Wasn’t
Is Mike Keneally living in poverty or something? And are you honestly suggesting there aren't many many artists who make a living independently via their web presence?
multinglets··on The Creative Apocalypse That Wasn’t
Nothing will ever be more bewildering than the people who get all sanctimonious that some rando can no longer get rich turning his blues scale riff into a 7 year marketing cicada.

People who actually care about music and can do something unique with it are currently taking advantage of the internet's costless promotional channels, getting famous, and making a perfectly good living off of youtube views if nothing else.

The real issue is that these promotional channels exist and the entrenched players don't control them, so they can't fabricate a superstar out of regurgitated shitmusic anymore. Cry me a river, mainstream media. Cry me a river, narcissistic "band" who aspires to be millionaires.

multinglets··on Dear Google Mail Team
I'm guilty of this too, but it would really be great if we as a society could develop some impulse against putting all of our eggs in the first shiny basket we see.
multinglets··on Echochamber.js
ppl who disagree with the national folk religion don't deserve to have opinions

if they wanted to make comments they should have been good ppl like me lulz

multinglets··on Ellen Pao Is Stepping Down as Reddit’s Chief
If she weren't a woman, I would be tempted to say it's almost . . .

It's almost like she just sucked at her job and the public backlash and getting fired were both predictable consequences of that fact.

multinglets··on Ellen Pao Is Stepping Down as Reddit’s Chief
> really uncomfortable

I know what you mean. I logged into /r/funny one day and someone had used the "b" word. I was just really concerned and uncomfortable with how things were going. What did you end up doing?

multinglets··on Ellen Pao Is Stepping Down as Reddit’s Chief
Hey I've got an idea:

Let's all cry together because someone said something mean about a public figure. In fact, I'm incapable of discussing any other aspect of this event until this unspeakable atrocity has been addressed.

multinglets··on DoJ's Gag Order on Reason Has Been Lifted
The guy has been president for 8 years. Look at the age of the technology involved in essentially all of the recent, absolutely ridiculous, violations of our rights, and tell me whose DOJ it is.

Do you, lol, enjoy our federal government's recent posture in regard to this stuff? Do we need to say something positive about the DOJ for everything negative we say? Will that help you out?

You say there is no support for the position as though we're not all commenting on an article about it.

multinglets··on FBI: Companies should help us ‘prevent encryption above all else’
Yeah, cool, let's all just stop using encryption for sensitive customer data so we more easily can catch the least sophisticated criminals who don't figure out how to do it themselves.

Let's also make it crystal clear to the more sophisticated criminals that they do, in fact, need to do it themselves.

Giving the FBI an easy way to put small time drug dealers in their pocket should obviously be a top priority of software companies.

I will vote for any politician who will tell these people to go fuck themselves.

multinglets··on US hit by 'massive data breach'
Oh no, the Chinese are stealing all our datas in an unprecedented cYbErattack!

I didn't realize it was Thursday again already.

multinglets··on Deprecating Non-Secure HTTP
Oh cool, so with increasingly stringent SSL requirements, we're basically entirely phasing out the ability to run a website without a certificate authority's involvement.

So instead of all this bullshit from Chrome, Firefox, et al., can I please just send some huge check to GoDaddy or Verisign or whomever and continue to use the internet as an open platform and not some managed service where we try to hold everyone's hand because we've conditioned them to spew their personal information all over the web all day?
