mycodebreaks··on Using NYC Taxi Data to Identify Muslim Taxi Drivers
Keeping a dog or coming in contact of a Dog is a taboo in Islam. So, the passengers were possibly using that as a trick to keep Muslim cab drivers disinterested in selling them a ride. It may not be illegal if the cab drivers had stated beforehand about their preference of not serving customers with dogs.

mycodebreaks··on Breaking up with America
So many engineers/professionals with H1B are hired by Microsoft, Google, Facebook and many others. Are you saying those programmers are getting paid lower than their non-H1B counterparts?
mycodebreaks··on Job interviews go both ways (2011)
The way interviews are conducted, mostly, you are left with a little time at the end. Interviewer will ask you to solve a problem, write code for it. Either the time is just enough for you to solve it, or if you finish too fast, there will be a next question thrown at you.In either case, not enough to have a meaningful short conversation followed by a question, which is sad.
mycodebreaks··on Poll: Are you moving to the Amazon Fire Phone?
On a similar note, I started removing apps which made me waste my time. Facebook was one of those apps for me.
mycodebreaks··on CAP Theorem Explained
In many talks and presentations, I have heard that only eventual consistency was possible in a distributed system. since, A and P are already needed, you can only compromise on C.

Therefore, I am curious in knowing. Here's my question: how do they configure production systems in order to get reasonable or 100% maybe consistency? In other words, the reads must factor latest write into account. No, stale reads.

mycodebreaks··on How Do You Compete with Starbucks in the Coffee Industry?
Yes, that' correct. I end up going to Starbucks exactly for the stated reasons in the article. You know what to expect and what you're gonna get. Though there might be gem coffeehouses around but I miss to be there unless somebody recommends me.
mycodebreaks··on Google I/O 2013 Registration Sells Out In 49 Minutes
I had to go through the same experience. I started my first ticket search at 7 AM pacific time sharp. I kept staring and clicking on button only to see sold out message finally.

Really, a lottery would have saved tons of engineer hours.

Her husband is semiconductor engineer. I am sure he wouldn't code in modern web environments.

mycodebreaks··on Linus Torvalds: Is Engadget really that stupid? Just corrupt? Trolling us all?
Linus is right. I agree with him. Engadget is stupid, corrupt and trolling in this case.

Lower prices aren't hurting consumers. Good quality Nexus devices around $200-400 ranges aren't hurting consumers. In fact, it encourages a fair competition. As a result, Apple/Samsung have to work hard to make their $600 & up devices feature-rich to justify higher price. Consumer wins!

mycodebreaks··on Another Way Apple's Fight With Google Is Hurting Users
This clearly shows how laggard Siri is when compared to Google search. This is how things are at present. Google clearly has an edge in this area. I agree that Apple will keep working and improving Siri, but there are many problems in the road which Google can solve much better than Siri can.

When Apple doesn't allow Google search because it is competing with Siri(Ssshh.. actually, it's a lot better than Siri), I am losing as a user.

I wish both companies can work together. In an ideal world for users, the backend technology is powered by Google and the interface and interaction is designed by Apple. That will make a groundbreaking product for sure.

"Anti-Apple postings are reflexively upvoted by dopes."

What exactly do you mean here? Your opinion doesn't have to hateful or demeaning.

mycodebreaks··on A Letter from Tim Cook on Maps
Let me refer to IE here. IE gets shipped with Windows. Many(actually, too many) users don't like using it and install & use Chrome, Firefox etc.

Let's hope that Apple plays fair game and lets Google, Bing and other Maps applications compete with Apple Maps. If Apple Maps app can't become/remain the most popular app in the category for any number of reasons, Apple Maps will get reduced to a product which is forced on to users.

mycodebreaks··on Has Apple Peaked?
One thing he correctly points out is how much better Apple Maps would have been if Mr. Jobs were around. Apple Maps is too big of a blunder for Apple to contain its criticism.

mycodebreaks··on Steve Wozniak on Samsung patent verdict: ‘I hate it and I don’t agree with it’
Agreed. Apple can't accuse competitors of being copycats when they are a copycat too at times.
mycodebreaks··on Steve Wozniak on Samsung patent verdict: ‘I hate it and I don’t agree with it’
I am not saying "Infringing Patents". I am saying "Stealing Ideas". They are not the same terms. As Tim Cook put it in his email "sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right".

It doesn't matter who the original inventor of Turn-by-Turn navigation is. It came on Android earlier. If something is not protected under patent, it doesn't mean that you are not stealing/copying an idea when you copy a feature from other devices/systems. It's wrong when you copy features of competitors and you blast at them when they do so.

mycodebreaks··on Steve Wozniak on Samsung patent verdict: ‘I hate it and I don’t agree with it’
Turn-by-Turn navigation came on Android way earlier than it came with iPhone 5 yesterday.

How fair it is for Apple complain about stealing ideas?

mycodebreaks··on How Long Will You Need to Save to Buy a Home In Your City?
Totally agree.I wonder why Caltrain is inefficient at times.

What prevents Caltrain to do better in terms of keeping up with schedule? Also, there must be a way to keep fare reasonably cheaper than cost of driving a car to work.

mycodebreaks··on How Long Will You Need to Save to Buy a Home In Your City?
Or you can ride Caltrain. The downside is the accidents on Caltrain tracks. It will literally take 2 hours to get to Mountain View from SF when there is an accident.
mycodebreaks··on Fake Bus Stops For Alzheimer’s patients in Germany (2011)
Actually, it is also an effective way to help patients relax and alleviate their anxiety. And, it is for the good of patients. Even if it is manipulation, it's a great deal better than situations where a manipulator is trying to get an advantage. E.g. you are told partial truth at work by the management. etc...

It shouldn't be regarded as manipulation IMHO.
