mycodebreaks··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
Controversial, but for affordability reasons, there even should be a cap on how many homes an individual can own for rentals. For the sanity in the housing market, members of society need to be driven to participate in other business activities for income/revenue, not rentals.
mycodebreaks··on Meta pirated books to train its AI
Meta and ethical practice can’t be in one sentence.
mycodebreaks··on Why are most sofas so bad?
low quality stuff manufacturing should be banned or limited to a low quantity. It's bad for the climate and environment on multiple folds.
mycodebreaks··on Ex-Google engineer charged with stealing trade secrets
Certainly it's a parody. VPs won't go tweeting about compensation of the individuals.

mycodebreaks··on Public restrooms are hard to find in America
Not a big amount though for city governments. They do tend to overspend anyways on building such facilities.

mycodebreaks··on British government mocked for advertising head of cyber role with £57K salary
This is a salary that's fairly achievable in developing world countries. The developing world has come far.

mycodebreaks··on Apple becomes first tech giant to explicitly ban caste discrimination
Just curious how this can be enforced when there are conflicts. In the US, how can it be proven someone belongs to specific caste.
mycodebreaks··on Google showing animated ships when searching “ever given”
why is this on HN frontpage?

EDIT - I only mean to say that Google showing this animation is mildly interesting, but there other are far more interesting stories.

mycodebreaks··on Tech sector job interviews assess anxiety, not software skills: study
Additionally, companies doing common pool hiring are worsening the situation even further. One bad interview day or one failure to solve complex riddle means that you're not good for any teams within that company until cool-off time passes which is typically from 6 months to 1 year. The system of cool-off period is equally brutal.
mycodebreaks··on Google to Invest $10B in India
Do not ignore cultural differences. If you see such an activity as a job, then you would arrive at a conclusion like yours.

In India, it's common for hosts to serve food as a sign of respect to their guests. Close friends and family of hosts also join. This only showed the closeness of the relationships among Mukesh and other stars. Seeing it as a subservient act isn't accurate, no big star would sign up if it were so.

mycodebreaks··on The Importance of India
Society in India has been getting more progressive over the years. Compare any decade with previous decade and see the difference. It's a trait and gift of democracy, people with access to information adapt themselves to be compatible with modern ideas. There'll always be two sides like in any other countries, but balance is easily achievable.

mycodebreaks··on Amazon Leadership Principles
Sounds right.
mycodebreaks··on H-1B visa shift may favor tech companies
It'll put startups at disadvantage. Very hard to compare equity compensation with liquid compensation big companies offer.

mycodebreaks··on Prediction of the FIFA World Cup 2018 – A random forest approach

mycodebreaks··on Amazon Raises Annual Prime Price 20% to $119
My main reason for shopping from Amazon is that I do not want to sign up separately on many retailer's websites. E.g. target, best buy, Walmart, ...

If there is a single sign-on option which provides good enough data safety & privacy, lot of my shopping will move away from Amazon to this virtual YC 2019 company.

mycodebreaks··on New Uber CEO Knew of Hack for Months
Dara's response: "None of this should have happened, and I will not make excuses for it ... While I can't erase the past, I can commit on behalf of every Uber employee that we will learn from our mistakes."
mycodebreaks··on New Research on How Ride-Hailing Impacts Travel Behavior
Yes, clipper card can fix the problem for locals. But, temporary visitors/tourists to the area may not want to get such a card.
mycodebreaks··on New Research on How Ride-Hailing Impacts Travel Behavior
Most public buses have a vending machine type payment system. You can insert bills & coins, but there is no outlet for returning change. So, there is no way drivers can return change.
mycodebreaks··on New Research on How Ride-Hailing Impacts Travel Behavior
Transit systems in the US need some payment technology upgrade.

On a couple of occasions, I haven't been able to board a bus due to not having exact change. Once, I was with kids & family visiting NYC. We were planning to take a public bus from a suburb to the city. The fare turned out to be $16 for all of us, but I had $11 and some $100 bills. Guess what, I couldn't board the bus as they can't return change. The bus driver cannot accept partial fare from me. I couldn't give up 80+ dollars as change. If I had $20, I wouldn't mind not getting back $4.

I wondered why they cannot start accepting credit cards, Apple Pay, Android Pay or any reasonable alternative. I then had to find a train station nearby which could accept credit card.

mycodebreaks··on Amazon Echo Show
why should a Fire tablet paired with speakers not be able to do this?

I am not against any category of products, but as a person who likes to own and manage fewer devices, I like my devices to be versatile.

mycodebreaks··on Snap Hires Engineer to Step Up Defense Against Code Copycats

mycodebreaks··on Bloody Plant Burger Smells, Tastes and Sizzles Like Meat
It is true for most of the restaurants serving different cuisines. Home-prepared Thai food is healthier than the food at Thai restaurants. Replace Thai with Chinese, Burmese, Vietnamese, Indian, and it would still hold true.
mycodebreaks··on Indian Students Lured by Recruiters Asked to Leave University
“If they come out of here without the ability to write programs, that’s embarrassing to my department,”

Why will you admit such students in the first place? This is a lapse shown by the admissions office. Paying recruiters to find students, giving students spot admissions - these are questionable practices the university shouldn't indulge into.
