n8m··on Looks like Bootsnipp.com has been hacked (and defaced)
But I wonder why? I wasn't aware that Bootsnipp had any political/ideological message that would clash with ... well ... anything?
n8m··on Microsoft Band 2.0 Review
Well- I guess its the same than with Cortana integration us. Here in NZ we don't have Cortana and/or the band (1 or 2).

While I have "Google now" on my Android and iPhone users can use Siri. I guess Microsoft simply isn't interested in small markets. Australia (bigger market) get's the Cortana and the Band.

n8m··on Classeur.io: Re-enjoy writing, with Markdown
When it comes to markdown I think I stick to Haroopad. It's cross platform and has pretty much all I need -> http://pad.haroopress.com/
n8m··on Early Bird vs. Night Owls
Yeah, you're right- while they are talking about side effects, they are not really highlighting what actually is more productive.
n8m··on Early Bird vs. Night Owls
I recently had a discussion with a co-worker who is amendment that she is more productive programming planning at night. I used to be the same, but I have switched to an early morning start instead and found that the quality of my work increased drastically. I guess it depends on the person- but I wonder if anyone would have had similar experiences?
n8m··on Knwl.js – A JavaScript NLP
I like it. I wonder if it would work with mixed in Markdown annotation.
n8m··on OpenFL: a hardware-accelerated cross-platform reimplementation of the Flash API
That looks like I need to give it a go. Thanks for showing!
n8m··on B. B. King, Defining Bluesman for Generations, Dies at 89
Very sad news- but unlike many others that died, he will not be forgotten.
n8m··on Cmder – Portable console emulator for Windows
Yeah, I find it slow as well (not babun, haven't tried it yet). ConEmu always did the job for me, but I might give babun a go.
n8m··on Elevator.js
Don't stop re-inventing things! I know there probably are hundreds of those scripts/plugins out there - but this one made me laugh! Well done!
n8m··on Maybe crickets aren't the food of the future
I always found the "crunchiness" off putting :) (that was a joke, I draw my line at two pairs of legs.
n8m··on Chocolatey NuGet Is a Machine Package Manager for Windows
Yeah, I've been using it for a while on my windows boxes. I was very happy at first, but later on I got issues with updating the products. I haven't tried it in a while though.
n8m··on Nokia Agrees to Buy Alcatel-Lucent for $16.6B
I've heard rumours Samsung is already using HERE heavily internally. So it would make sense- but what will happen to the other that are currently using it to (they've mentioned Microsoft, BMW etc. in the article).
n8m··on Nokia Agrees to Buy Alcatel-Lucent for $16.6B
I just hope whoever buys HERE doesn't screw it up. At the moment I do like them more than the google maps. They are also cheaper when it comes to licenses.
n8m··on [dead]
Ah, I didn't know all that. Do you have some links regarding this? Very interesting.
n8m··on [dead]
Whow- I hope they won't get through with that. If they are going to get through with that- where does it end? It will set an example for all the other struggling economies in the EU to extort money out of what appears to be the only performing economy in the EU at the moment.
n8m··on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Government Surveillance [ft. Edward Snowden]
I have to say, I was fairly suprised of the way the interview was conducted. It was somewhat refreshing to see not the same questions being asked all over and over again. I think Mr. Oliver & his team picked very well what the average Joe does care about. Very well done!
n8m··on Toolkit
It's good to see something else than Bootstrap. If you like this, have a look at: http://www.semantic-ui.com/ - I love using this as every component can be downloaded separately.
n8m··on Ask HN: How do I become a faster programmer?
I completely agree with that! I know so many people coding ridiculous hours, and all they do is causing more problems the next day. Less hours = Better focus

Plan your food and sleep. Probably exercise. Get a fitbit (or similar) and find your sweet spot (sleep tracking is awesome with those things). When you feel good- you're most effective.

If you're having deadlines, take long breaks and go back to work after you've done something different (essentially shift working but within reasonable hours).

Don't "overdose" yourself with energy drinks, or too much coffee/tea. I have found that some energy drinks do affect my ability to focus negative. Same with coffee- too much is limiting (my) ability to focus.

All those things helped me. It can be different for you, but it's probably a start.

n8m··on Vivaldi – A new browser for our friends
My first thought was: "Crap another browser. Fun times." - but I guess it will be alright since everything seems to run on bootstrap & co anyways ...
n8m··on Amazon Echo
Buahahahaha - Brilliant! Thank you Siri!
n8m··on Amazon Echo
Very interesting device. I just fear that they will lock it down' like it's the 90's and would come with no open API. And then of course the security stuff... but that's everywhere now ...
n8m··on Packing things in your brain in a way that keeps them from leaking out
I agree. A simple strategy for the "European capitals" would be to learn the size of them in conjunction. I guess the key is to search for something useful that you can relate to easier? For Example: London, 8.3 Mil; Berlin 4.3 Mil and so on...
n8m··on Project Euler Returns
Agreed! Well done guys!
n8m··on Mapbox GL for the Web
wow, VERY impressive. What you can do with that!!

I guess some of the old dusty GIS Enterprise Solutions, now _slowly_ have to start worrying about competition in such form (I know you can't compare it to a full Featured GIS, as a map is only a component of many many things that are required to be usefull). Current solutions are way behind and the moment when it comes to the presentation and manipulation of data (imho). They will have to up their game significantly to stay relevant.

n8m··on SkyTV is blocking ISPs Advertisements
Not sure what I should think about this, as the "global mode" from the IS is circumventing GeoIP locking and (on top of that) advertise with the possibility to get netflix.

On the other hand, netflix will probably never go to NZ because there are not enough people (only ~4M). So it's either that, illegal download or waiting for months (and coping with those pesky add-breaks).

Many people complain that quickflix (the NZ competitor to netflix) is missing out on a lot of content.

n8m··on GCC 4.9 is doing “some seriously crazy shit” according to Linus Torvalds
Thank you!
n8m··on GCC 4.9 is doing “some seriously crazy shit” according to Linus Torvalds
Generalize much? I have worked in different teams.

The "being an-unfriendly-*" problem has often to do with tight timelines and problems/bugs that seem completely weird. Frankly, that can drive you nuts.

It's not really an excuse, but it can probably explain some behavior.

n8m··on Muse: the brain sensing headband
I wonder if someone with migraine somehow could benefit from such a device/training.
n8m··on Random JSON data generator
So it's popular :)
