nateguchi··on What Apple and Google are doing to push notifications
I feel like this article reads like the author is upset that Apple + Google prevent / control certain types of notifications (read: spam)

> Cross-sell, upsell, education and discovery can work on push

Push notifications should only be for transactional notifications. I don't want another inbox for junk.

In the UK, the owner is liable for identifying the driver at the time of the incident. This is how it works with e.g. rental cars. If the owner doesn't identify the driver, they get the points

nateguchi··on (Tesla) has twice attempted to drive directly into a train while in FSD mode
Surprised it allows FSD in such poor visibility conditions. Surely they need to do some work on a reported visibility confidence level where FSD disables if it is not confident in the amount of visibility it has.

nateguchi··on Putting the “You” in CPU
For anyone looking to find out more about how computers work at a very basic level, I really recommend the book "Code" by Charles Petzold. Goes from first principles all the way up.

nateguchi··on The UK is wasting a lot of wind power
One thing that I find hard to understand is how the electricity prices in the UK have gone up so dramatically (blaming gas prices) when a large amount of the electricity is not generated from gas. Is the price being artificially inflated?
nateguchi··on Rows.com – Spreadsheet that supports external API integration and collaboration
If you haven't looked into it yet - Google Apps Script [0] is an incredibly powerful system when combined with Google Sheets. You can integrate lots of business processes and external systems (rest, soap, databases etc) together and integrate with classic spreadsheet functionality, we use it a lot in our business!

nateguchi··on Why Three Prongs? (1996)
You can feasibly combine an RCD and an isolated transformer, not sure I've seen this done before though or if it gives any real benefit.
nateguchi··on Why Three Prongs? (1996)
In fact, you can buy transformers that are ungrounded to isolate the supply and make it safe to touch either wire. When combined with an RCD, this makes a very safe system
nateguchi··on Why Three Prongs? (1996)
I may be biased, but I think British plugs are great. They have integrated fuses and are switchable too! The sockets have shutters as well to stop children sticking paperclips or forks in and electrocuting themselves.

Not great to stand on, however

nateguchi··on How Postgres is more than a relational database: Extensions
Is anyone using Mongo in a large volume production system?
nateguchi··on How Postgres is more than a relational database: Extensions
Yes, MySQL has more developed methods of replication. There are also some specific functionalities available in either MySQL or Postgres that you may pick based on your use case (geo, upsert, insert and replace). There's definite variation with feature parity and performance that makes either a better choice depending on use case.
nateguchi··on Monzo, a U.K. challenger bank, raises £85M Series E
If you're looking for customer support, I really recommend First Direct, their phone support is completely unreal, 1 ring and you're through to someone that can service any banking need you might have with them, no transfers, no waiting, no fiddly security it works really well!

Their app has come a long way recently too.
