That's not to say that being a paying customer means a company won't also sell your data (just look at nearly every major retailer).
I never used it when it was "hot" (~2012), but in the past few months I've really come to like it for finding places (restaurants, etc.) & making lists. Also, their tools for making edits to the DB are quite impressive, and they do a great job of leveraging superusers to moderate those changes.
Actually, the current AT&T Next offering isn't bad, they simply take the full price of the phone and divide by 20 or 24 months.
If you cancel service before the end of the period, you owe the balance of the price of the phone. It's essentially a 0% loan for the phone.
(BTW, the $27/month installment price means the Fire Phone's real price is ~$650)
I remain unconvinced that tipping culture improves service, and it's most certainly sexist, racist, and ageist.
Last I heard, they said it would happen after a Mac version is released, but it's hard to find more info.
They did a nice feature on ICHEG (the International Center for the History of Electronic Games) at The Strong last year: http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/6/25/4452894/the-strong...
And of course, a direct link to ICHEG: http://www.icheg.org
I remember it still being used at Kodak when I was a kid and my father worked there.
