nbap··on Starlink Direct to Cell
Ten years ago I installed one cam for Surfline and at that time it's was an off-the-shelf but expensive outdoor camera (stock firmware) connected to a locally-based broadband.
nbap··on Show HN: I built a simple, open-source tool to manage servers and SSH keys
That was very well put. I noticed an increasing negativity in Show HN posts lately. The usual inquisitive and supportive comments are being replaced with straight up negative and dismissive ones (or maybe it was always like this and people being nice is just a fabricated memory of mine)
nbap··on Ask HN: Erlang and the telecom market
Right? I could easily list a few companies hiring Erlang developers, including the one I currently work for but that attitude is a big no-no for me.
nbap··on Endurance: Shackleton's lost ship is found in Antarctic
I second that.
nbap··on The Presence of One’s Own Smartphone Reduces Available Cognitive Capacity (2017)
Books and magazines
nbap··on Show HN: Mimestream, a native macOS email client for Gmail
I love the simplicity; form follows function.

Is there a way to get rid of the badge counter on the dock icon? I somewhat feel anxious/FOMO when the counter is there.

nbap··on Fernando Pessoa’s Disappearing Act (2017)
From the comments' guidelines:

"Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something."

nbap··on Fernando Pessoa’s Disappearing Act (2017)
- José Eduardo Agualusa (My favorite)

- Valter Hugo Mãe

- Gonçalo M. Tavares

- Raduan Nassar

- Rubem Fonseca

nbap··on SICP in Python
Yeah it is broken on the master branch but if you change to this one the pdf file is fine: https://github.com/sarabander/sicp-pdf/tree/print
nbap··on Elixir v1.10
IMHO Elixir School is a great way to start: https://elixirschool.com/

After that, I would recommend taking a look at Elixir in Action from Saša Jurić

nbap··on The Secret API of Banks
Thanks but I'm aware of Zapier. The custom app is fairly easy to maintain, I can keep track of changes and it provides total flexibility for my needs in terms of parsing and how to store the data.
nbap··on The Secret API of Banks
Yeah, I've been doing this for a couple of months now. I just happen to use a combination of Gmail filters, IFTTT actions to post to a webhook of a custom app hosted for free at Heroku to parse and send to Google Spreadsheets. It's been serving me well, definitely better than my bank's app.
nbap··on Gaussian Processes for Machine Learning (2010)
A friend of mine is using Gaussian Processes with ML to fill gaps in time series. He is working on a project for a government agency that analyses data from roadside sensors such as traffic, speed, etc, so they are using Gaussian Process to fill data gaps when those sensors fail.

His group published a paper about it: https://trid.trb.org/view/1496472

He also wrote about it in his MSc thesis but I can't find a link for it.

nbap··on Ask HN: I hate my new job, Need some advice
I've been in a situation like yours once. I was really upset and didn't know what to do. By that time I was reading a Derek Sivers's book Anything you Want and I was feeling so much connected with the author that I've decided to send him an e-mail telling my story and asking for some advice/guidance. For my surprise, he replied my e-mail on the next day. I think his answer fits to your question, and by the way, it was exactly what I did and it couldn't have been better.

Mr. Sivers's answer: "Quit now. If your heart's not in it, get out. Be honest with [...]. You're not helping them or your self by doing something you're not excited about. :-)"

Don't be afraid to quit.
