Interesting feedback. I think we are way to close to even see that. A font with the bars on the top and bottom of the I would be a better fit.

Sales (and by extension pitches) is a necessary reality for all companies. Selling is hard. I am not good as sales and we built it to help us sell which is always easier and more effective with visuals.

There are a lot of other uses for PitchIt besides sales but so far the name has clicked with us. Besides I would have to remove my tatoo if the name changed!

Yes, your title suggestion would have been more appropriate. It is all about how we reacted to the honest feedback.

We have made a lot of changes so drawing conclusions is difficult. Removing the name/email on the instant demo instantly increased activity there. Moving forward we also introduced a 30 day free trial which will now be our target metric. We are iterating a lot of things and hopefully can limit are changes and get more targeted data.

We have used other webinar type sw in the past. For every user of webinar sw you can quickly find a story when a meeting was started late or users (connections) dropped out. Internally (read internal network) it works great but as soon as you have others included or someone who doesn't have the plugin installed issues arise.

PitchIt started out as an internal app to help us show our slides remotely while trying to sell a different app. After consecutive calls where clients only asked about what presentation software we were using and if it was for sale, PitchIt was born.

Our focus is on simplicity and the ability to respond to adhoc meetings and opportunities to "Pitch" your products. Your attendees must only click a link and they are in. No plugins to install and it doesn't require high bandwidth.

Yes, you are probably right. We have gone as far as we can ourselves and our next action would be to bring in a designer to help out. I am only pretending to know about colours.

Ha ha. I think the chain will end here. Besides the max title is 80 chars and the "We did a post about how our post about how our post ..." will fit!

As another commenter mentioned "it's been documented that engagement from reddit/facebook/etc is very low". It is all about the unfiltered feedback and what you do with it.
nesbot··on We did a Show HN and it landed on the front page of Hacker News
Yes, we didn't have the room for that type of change before with the extra text heading. We'll have to try that out as well... it would be more obvious for sure.
nesbot··on We did a Show HN and it landed on the front page of Hacker News
Very true. Just a note that the play button is actually just for the video. The larger green button below it is for the instant demo.
nesbot··on We did a Show HN and it landed on the front page of Hacker News
Delay? We were originally using youtube to play the video but now we have switched to Wistia. It is much better and we can link directly to the instant demo at the end rather than showing other random videos.
nesbot··on Show HN: PitchIt - Present slides to anyone from any device
Comments like yours is why we posted the site here.
nesbot··on Stripe Checkout
Thanks. The form is very slick so just using it to collect the information is not half bad.
nesbot··on Stripe Checkout
Does this allow you to change the price dynamically though?

For example, if the user selects Canada for their billing address I must then add the appropriate taxes to the price dynamically. Doesn't seem like that is possible?

nesbot··on Show HN: PitchIt - Present slides to anyone from any device
Thanks for those comments. Agree with your points on the aesthetics and the need for simplicity of the product. We also agree with your points on the marketing side. Getting the site up sooner to get feedback like this helps a lot.
nesbot··on Show HN: PitchIt - Present slides to anyone from any device
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I know what you mean -- projectors are always a pain. You're right, in small groups you can just use PitchIt, no need for a projector and for bigger groups like at an event you can use PitchIt so that the poor people sitting at the back of the room could still have a perfect unobstructed view of the slides on their mobiles.

Hi, I'm Brian, one of the co-founders. We built an internal app to help us show our PowerPoint slides remotely while trying to sell our business app. After consecutive calls where clients only asked about what presentation software we were using and if it was for sale, PitchIt was born.
nesbot··on Best SSDs For The Money: August 2011
I have had good success with 2 OCZ (Vertex1 and Vertex2) drives but had an Intel SSD that failed hard on me.
nesbot··on Best SSDs For The Money: August 2011
If you use your computer for extended periods of time every day then their performance payoffs outweigh the $. They have come down quite a bit in price lately as well. As the article talks about there are many options available today from at least getting your OS onto a smaller speedy boot drive to housing everything on a larger one.

I for one initially had picked up a 60 GB OCZ Vertex1 awhile ago and then about 10 months ago moved up to a 120 GB Vertex2. Will never look back.

nesbot··on Ask HN: Monitor size
I have 3 monitors.

Left 22" (landscape) 1680x1050 Center 23" (portrait) 1152x2048 Right 22" (landscape) 1680x1050

Pretty happy with my current setup. I have them on monitor arms which is the best thing... ultimate control over placement.

nesbot··on Ask HN: Best cloud host?
I have had a great experience with https://www.stormondemand.com/ so far. They offer both shared and bare-metal dedicated and they always seem to be cheap compared to others. They were rated quite high by the cloudharmony benchmarks. Not to mention their support twitter account, when needed, are really responsive.
nesbot··on Starting as an app developer: iPhone or Android? Which one to choose?
You might be interested in this recent hacker news posting, http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2929612

You can look at the results but looks iPhone is paying more for now, but I think that will flip in the coming months.

nesbot··on Ask HN: What did you do on the first day of your start-up?
We setup computers (AMD K2-350 !!) and desks in the morning and played a 2 person LAN game of DoomII for the afternoon. On the 3650th day we played some LAN counter-strike (with a lot more people). Lots of blood, sweat, tears and counter-strike in between. On the 3651th day I left.
nesbot··on Heroku for Java
Seems as though that person has tried a lot of different heroku setups... also got playframework running https://github.com/lstoll/heroku-playframework
nesbot··on TimeHub. Create invoices from Github commits
Nice work. Simple idea and well executed.

Two quick things came to mind.

An option to only select commits with entered times would be handy rather than having to deselect the estimates and non value commits (maybe this is implemented but I didn't create a commit with a time value).

Think someone else mentioned this, but the ability to override or add time to estimated and/or non value commits.

If you are following hacker news you probably have seen the code academy ... http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2914854

Depending on your level, might be interesting for you.

nesbot··on Announcing Amazon ElastiCache - Managed Memcached
Is there a part of the typical web stack that they don't offer a solution for or does this pretty much cover it. I know you can always run whatever they don't yourself just on another ec2 instance, but I think you can offload everything (but your app) now to their services.
nesbot··on Do you really need a tablet?
Yes, but it seems we agree on 2 things.

1 : portrait is better, be it 4:3 or 16:9 2 : back to the original post, we like our tablets

nesbot··on Active Mutual Funds are Going to Die
I generally agree with the author, mutual funds aren't smart investments anymore. I think the ease and cost of stock purchasing now also plays a role. The Internet and discount brokers make it easy for everyone and provide options that simply didn't exist before.

Investing is still very scary for most and because of the marketing machine most feel mutual funds are the safe investment. The Internet and availability of information is breaking that barrier but it will take time.

For the record I first invested in mutual funds but have learned the ways and now am completely self invested with a discount broker in dividend paying stocks.

nesbot··on How to charge clients: flat fee vs. hourly rate?
I have seen scope change been an issue on 10k projects as well on multi-million dollar projects. All of which in my history would have been better off with an hourly billing.

The number of bodies were talking about makes a big difference, and the larger that number is the more a fixed rate person/week makes sense. Just like the larger consulting firms its all about placing a lot of people for a long time, +/- 1 week here or there won't matter. You mitigate the risk and it makes sense to take it on spread across the team and only as granular as weeks. Agreed your system works really well with those scenarios.

I interpreted the the original post was an individual who provides consulting service where 1 week could make a difference, 20% overage on a 1 month project. The companies aren't necessarily tiny, but maybe the departments within those companies (read budget) he consults with are limited. In this scenario I would favour a good hourly rate over fixed price every time.

nesbot··on Do you really need a tablet?
Reading is the reason I enjoy the portrait aspect ratio. Its the same reason my main desktop monitor is a 23" rotated in portrait (vertical) mode, 2048px high.

I think we are saying the same thing, no?
