newacc9··on Ask HN: What is this mental technique called?
reframing
newacc9··on Tell HN: If I see an “accept cookies” on a website, I close it immediately
If I survive the cookie banner, I'm usually blasted with "subscribe to our email" popup half way through reading, then I definitely bail. When the EU collapses maybe we can redesign the web.
newacc9··on Former NY Fed President: If Stocks Don't Fall, the Fed Needs to Force Them
Middle America's 401k gets hammered (pushing retirement off x-years) and small set of tech workers can't buy as much? Seems more harmful than good. fwiw, I don't have 401k/and I own a tiny amount of stock.

High asset prices will make rent go up, but why would it affect anything else like food, energy or durable goods?
newacc9··on In Defense of Bitcoin Maximalism
This has been solved with X-of-N multisig since 2012, but its opt-in.
newacc9··on Seen from space, the longest conveyor belt is in Morocco
Its the subject of this visually stunning 12m film, "This Sahara Railway Is One of the Most Extreme in the World" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEo-ykjmHgg
newacc9··on Ask HN: Anyone else suddenly become a 'prepper'?
My real prep, to be honest, is trying to maintain a state of grace in the pre-vatican2 Catholic Church. http://vaticancatholic.com for details
newacc9··on Ask HN: Anyone else suddenly become a 'prepper'?
I'm prepper, but I've been following Joel Skousen since 2005 who has been predicting ww3 with China + Russia vs the West, his geopolitical analysis on Ukraine makes everyone else look foolish, its not free, but you can get a free sample. https://www.worldaffairsbrief.com/ Also prepper tip, buy SPAM at Aldi its lie $2 for 1200 cals of meat.
newacc9··on Ask HN: What do you wish you had done/known in your 30s?
Use the bankers money to buy a rental duplex/triplex/quad I think is the shortest path to wealth, but atm I'm only interested in bitcoin, nvidia (watch GTC that came out yest) and SARK.
newacc9··on Ask HN: What do you wish you had done/known in your 30s?
Get married, have children, buy assets.

There's this idea that men don't need to settle down because they can have children at any age, which I guess is technically true but it presupposes that a 30 y/o woman will want to have children with you when you're 45, but they are more inclined to go +5 years, not +15.

Also take prescription labels more seriously, like don't take Advil all the time, because you will get an ulcer and don't mix alcohol and aspirin because it causes liver damage.

Exercise and don't eat to much, and invest in your posture (don't get carpal tunnel, hunch over at the computer, etc)

newacc9··on Ask HN: Do not rent and live in basements
You have a similar problem at very high floors, you are disconnected from street life (in fact, the higher you are, the less frequently you leave the dwelling), but at least higher up you get sunlight. I think the sweet spot is the 2nd to 5th floors.
newacc9··on Folding bicycle small enough to fit in hand luggage
Rollerblades will take care of that 1.6 mi commute in Cadillac in about 10 mins.
newacc9··on Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future
you didnt follow my point
newacc9··on Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future
A lot of "sound money", goldbug types got in early like Trace Mayer and Max Kaiser and SV guys who had a lot of time on their hands because they were rich from some earlier Internet thing, like Richard Heart and the Winklevosses.
newacc9··on Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future
It takes like 18 months to recover the cost of the miners, plus maybe they've leased out a warehouse, and so forth -- so its a sunk cost situation.
newacc9··on Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future
A developer wants the compute cost to be low, but the investors want it to be high. Is there anyway out of this contradiction?
newacc9··on Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future
Its always trendy to throw shade at white people.
newacc9··on Ask HN: Are Web3 and DApps the Future?
Web3 is centralized, MetaMask talks to Infura which runs on AWS. Its no small task to decentralize a smart contract platform.

Opportunity lies at the edges of technology, maybe in this vein you could dig into wasm instead.

newacc9··on How did Europe become the richest part of the world?
I found this video very interesting, on the same wavelength as Dimond

newacc9··on Ask HN: Has anyone come up with a use for blockchain yet?
Find a true Scotsman, they'll give you a valid answer
newacc9··on Crypto is an unproductive bubble
QE creates inequality via asset bubble inflation (those without assets are on the losing end), there's a housing crisis because housing (and now commodities) is used as a store-of-value. The Petro-dollar system is not ESG friendly and it is coming to and end: China is no longer buying treasuries, Saudi is willing to price oil in Yuan, and the West is seizing Russian reserves. Your faith in the dollar system seems unphased by macro events. When the price of coins skyrockets, its better to hold, but people still need to live, so they still spend money.
newacc9··on Crypto is an unproductive bubble
Talk to any 70 year old, they'll say $100 was a lot of money in those days. At 7 pct inflation your pp will get cut in half in 10 years, but im being pedantic since this is obvious to everyone.
newacc9··on Crypto is an unproductive bubble
No one keeps money in fiat. It goes into stocks, real estate, etc. Because fiat is going to zero.
newacc9··on Crypto is an unproductive bubble
Bitcoin only has to be better than your local fiat currency, which isn't a very high bar. https://twitter.com/MichaelAArouet/status/147212863307459788...
newacc9··on Ask HN: I'm So Lonely
It feels inauthentic because at first you don't actually care about some random person, but if a series of events happened, you would actually care about such-and-such a person. How can we have a series of events happen in a normal, unforced way that would take us from one state to the other?
newacc9··on Ask HN: I'm So Lonely
adult friendships are forged in form form of work. running clubs, crossfit, volunteering, speedrunning, etc
newacc9··on Internet Backbone Giant Lumen Shuns .RU
how can you say that when they are about to annex taiwan?
newacc9··on Russian news channel RT to broadcast on Rumble after Big Tech curbs
The generic term is atrocity propaganda
newacc9··on Class Bullshitters
You see this with public figures, they do something horrible/super-unpopular and then they whine and say "I've been getting death threats" to posture as victims (maybe they are getting threats and maybe they aren't, but the effect is the same -- ie that they are transformed in the public consciousness into moral beings)
newacc9··on Class Bullshitters
Furthermore, when you deny a person's victimhood -- you are immediately considered a very-bad-person (you are in league with the aggressor). Anyone who pointed out the Jussie Smollett hoax can attest to being treated poorly/as an aggressor. We also have #believeallwomen, and so forth.
