nickfrost··on VC bias in viewing pitch decks can affect fundraising success
The survey/research is done with explicit opt-in from the founders and all of the viewer data is aggregated and anonymized.
nickfrost··on Mattermark (YC S12) to shut down after selling to FullContact
Brutal result after years of work - "a less than $500,000 cash consideration from FullContact, which will be used to facilitate shutdown."

nickfrost··on Case Study: How We A/B Tested Our Way to 72% Opens and 23% Click Through Rate

nickfrost··on Passive Income Hacker vs. Startup Guy (2013)
This post is hilarious. Here's the original HN post with 258 comments: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6108092
nickfrost··on Ask HN: Heroku for content
Sounds interesting to me! I write newsletters, blog posts, social media content, and more. Starting from a foundation/ frameworks would help save tons of time. Do you have any kind of prototype yet?
nickfrost··on Ask HN: What is the necessary knowledge to build a chatbot?
I recommend reading chatbotsmagazine.com/ and researching chatbots on Quora.
nickfrost··on SpaceX could be grounded for 9-12 months after accident, ULA chief says
I understand the value of life and that it's important to make sure everyone is safe in space missions, but this is an unmanned space organization and it would be RIDICULOUS if SpaceX was grounded for any period of time. They continue to push the boundaries and should be lauded for their accomplishments and less ridiculed for their mission failures. Just my brief opinion....
nickfrost··on Silicon Valley startups rein in spending and prepare for layoffs
@w1ntermute We are not the kind of company that will 'disappear when the boom turns to bust'. Despite what you and others may think, we do not just serve startups or various types of investors. We have many enterprise level B2B customers. Our business is NOT built on the backs of small, early stage startups, which we likely won't even sell our product to. Also, if there is a but, it'll be us reporting the trends on it.
nickfrost··on Silicon Valley startups rein in spending and prepare for layoffs
@askafriend I work at Mattermark and we have not gone through a 'massive restructuring'. As with any growing startup, some people don't work out, traditionally more sales people vs. other types of employees. We are on a steady hiring trajectory and we have no problem with being transparent as a company. Where did you here we went through a 'massive restructuring"?

nickfrost··on 52 Domain Names That Could Be Startups
I bought all of them with the intention to build something. Obviously I've gotten a bit carried away, so am now downsizing. In my opinion, there's completely nothing wrong with selling a domain name. The reality is that if I don't own it, someone else will. Luckily for the buyer, I'm a nice guy and am not going to severely mark up the price as "professional domainers" would.

So, if you're interested in any of the doors I'm selling, let me know.

nickfrost··on Namebox - The Easiest Way to Sell Your Unused Domains
You do have the ability to verify your domain. Perhaps in the near future, you won't be able to list domains that aren't verified.
nickfrost··on Namebox - The Easiest Way to Sell Your Unused Domains
Use Escrow.com. And this is a recently released project with many improvements coming soon.
nickfrost··on I'm creating a website to promote early stage sites and ideas
Yay! Another resource for early traffic.

StartupLi.st, which I created from my tent while on deployment in Afghanistan (crazy!), was an early mover in this space, and has some new features in the pipeline.

Kickoffboost looks pretty cool, and is in the same category as Erlibird, BetaList, KillerStartups, Wikindu, MoMB, StartupLift, etc. It's great to see so many sites looking to help boost the early traffic of very early startups.

Also, Mevvy and Ocitrus are newer resources to showcase your early startup.

All of these resources are recommended to use when looking for exposure and feedback on your early product/ prototype.

Eventually... TechCrunch will be an afterthought when looking for early traffic/ users. Cheers!:)

nickfrost··on My Startup has 30 Days to Live
If you let us know who you are and what company you're working on steering in the right direction, I'm very certain there are people, like me, that would love to help you in any way.

1. I work for a company that can alleviate any back-office pain you have, setting you up on the proper infrastructure, rather than startup blood-sucking solutions like BackOps, TriNet, and Algentis.

2. I have industry connections to help you find mentors, funding, or guidance of any kind.

3. I don't know you, but I am passionate about you. You're a founder and I believe you have great value to offer the world. With this startup or any other you create in your lifetime.

4. You've drummed up great awareness for you and your product with this post, so why not use it to get feedback on your product, with hopes to continue developing something customers want.

That's all I can say. I wish you the best, and hope you're not too discouraged if things don't work out with your current startup. You have the spark. Keep it alive, and build something of value.

Cheers :)

nickfrost··on Ask HN: Alternatives to HN

nickfrost··on Silicon Bayou rising: New Orleans' drive to be the next great tech city
They have a lot of competition to be the next great tech city.
nickfrost··on Ask HN: In building your startup, who do you use for accounting?
Advisor is a complete back-office/ operations partner early-stage startups. More cost friendly and scalable than InDinero, BackOps, TriNet, and every other "solution" in the industry.

nickfrost··on The Top 7 Startups From Y Combinator’s Winter ’13 Demo Day
IMO. A good question to think about is.... will this solution scale with my company? It's not proven that it will.
nickfrost··on Build Your Product, Then Your Business
I disagree. Just as many startups fail because they don't have an actual business to be the foundation for their product. It's important to have someone on your team (founder, advisor, investor, or whoever) thinking about how to build a business, as well as someone thinking about the product. If you do, then you're more likely to succeed than if you're just focused on product. IMO.
nickfrost··on Benefits matter, or why I won't work for your Y Combinator startup
A great company solving the "Back-office / operations" side of a startup, including HR and benefits management, is Advisor. http://Advsor.com Yeah, the website is being updated, but with clients like Uber, ZeroCater, PandoDaily, Buffer, Expensify, and 70+ more, they are a SOLID solution.
nickfrost··on Show HN: Webflow - Design responsive websites visually
Will you guys be doing the whole startup process or bootstrapping this like Github? If you'd like help with your AngelList page, let me know. I'll help optimize your profile and get you some traction :) I love your product btw!!!!
nickfrost··on TechCrunch vs. Hacker News: Which is a better front page to launch your startup?
I suggest we chat about my community of targeted early adopters, that will make TechCrunch and HN user acquisition, a thing of the past. Seriously.
