nodrog3000··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
> This might be your personal ideological creed, but it is not a self-evident axiom you can just assert with zero backing.

Give an example of something the government does better than the market?

> Then why haven't they? Give an example where they haven't?

> Are you aware other countries with their own governments exist? And they all lose the most free market America? Why would we do more like them?

I am arguing they should. We cannot afford to let the government control energy going forward.

The SpaceX example was to demonstrate how profits aren't the sole goal of companies.

Yes after the monopoly of NASA ended we now have several real space companies doing real advancement.

I personally have never used one of these "government computers" have you?

Your free to go start a worker owned company and compete in the market, good luck.

So what is the government's sole purpose?

Also this is not the sole purpose of companies.. SpaceX is a trillion dollar company with 0 profit.

The free market has created everything you use the more we turn the keys over to government's the worse things get.

Companies can't get infinite profits because they will be undercut by other companies COMPETING. The government can get infinite power and control though.. they have no competition.

Thank you! Holy shit. It is very disheartening hearing from what I see as a intelligent community speaking with such ignorance and naivety.

rent seeking middleman? I would say the government has the most special privileges of the competitors in the market no?

We have the most expensive healthcare in the world and some of the worse it is a over regulated industry full of complexity and corruption. Look at industries without government involvement, the less involvement the cheaper and better things get.

healthcare, education, and child care all suck.

tvs, software, and clothes, all cheap and very good.

I meant "Efficient" as in delivering the power for less cost. Investors don't necessarily care about a profit margin either. Space X is a trillion dollar company and has 0 profit.
nodrog3000··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
It is naive to think that the government can just be 23% more efficient at getting you electricity. This excludes account for tax exceptions, cheaper financing or even government financing. The government is a monopoly and not allowing competitors in with legislation and using tax dollars to be more "efficient".

The referee should not be able to play the game.

The government is a monopoly...
nodrog3000··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
Yup, tax exceptions, cheaper financing or even government financing. It's like letting the referees play the game and then pointing out that they make more free throws.
nodrog3000··on Think of the children: How to force real ID for all internet traffic (2023)
Simple solution, Use your router to block whatever you need to, control your kids devices, the internet stays free and open.

What are we talking about?

There are no laws that will turn out well.

nodrog3000··on Think of the children: How to force real ID for all internet traffic (2023)
This is an impossible task. If a certain business wants to make human id required, let them. It should not be enforced by government.

You have full control over your router and kid's devices so start there. Not anyone else's responsibility.

nodrog3000··on Age verification for social media, the beginning of the end for a free internet?
Forcing all OS to do this is a bit of overreach though no?

If you want to keep your kids safe get an OS that supports it?

Why is it the state’s responsibility?
