nokeya··on Why my Asus laptop kept rebooting after sleep and how to fix it
Microsoft is to blame for this mess. Everything was ok before their “modern sleep” - C-states and stuff. Everything except memory sleeps. But no, they wanted to be like Apple. And, as always, they did it in most horrible way.
nokeya··on GamersNexus and LG: Or why rooting your TV is a bad idea
Because of course it does. You are fighting the wrong side, they should proof they are good, not you defend them.
nokeya··on Show HN: Beautiful Type Erasure with C++26 Reflection
This is awesome and horrendous at the same time.
nokeya··on Show HN: Mindwalk – Replay coding-agent sessions on a 3D map of your codebase
First thought after reading “3D map of your codebase” was that now we will be able to code in Johnny Mnemonic style :D
nokeya··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
You can buy them overseas from online secondhand stores like mandarake and play on your switch, because there is no region lock. Interface will still be in Japanese, but it is pretty obvious what to to and how.
nokeya··on Show HN: Yamanote.fun – A complete soundscape for Tokyo's Yamanote line
That “install as app” pop up after the first station is clearly unnecessary and utilises a dark pattern - “not now” button is painted like it is disabled. Please don’t do like that.
nokeya··on OpenPrinter
And then government will declare this printer illegal because of no yellow dots.
nokeya··on The new HTTP QUERY method explained
If it needs so much explanation and discussion, maybe it is not a great idea after all?
nokeya··on Windows 11 New Media Player Uses 3.5x More RAM, Charges for Popular Video Codecs
The problem is that it does not. At all.
nokeya··on Nvidia RTX Spark
It was wintel (windows + intel) before. This will be what? Windia? Wintek?
nokeya··on Toshifumi Suzuki, founder of Seven-Eleven Japan, has died
And now compare not the numbers, but what these countries actually produce, in global sense. Japan produces cars, electronics, medical and precision stuff, cultural exports. And what do Croatia produce? Not even speaking about almost dying Latvia and Lithuania.
nokeya··on Everything in C is undefined behavior
Ok, and?
nokeya··on Graduates are booing pep talks on AI at college commencements
HTTP error 451 for accessing this site outside of US, meh.
nokeya··on Google Search as you know it is over
They enabled this for me several days ago, and is awful. I don’t need slop explaining me the name of the API variable I am searching for, I need links to docs with possible values! And if you try to ask in a more “human” language - it will hallucinate like hell. Fortunately, I found that search from address bar still gets me into usual search.
nokeya··on Nintendo announces price increases for Nintendo Switch 2
So, they are not soo greedy, but greedy enough to not make it an OLED and later add a separate pricier OLED version.
nokeya··on Nintendo announces price increases for Nintendo Switch 2
Really? They released a second generation with screen being worse than installed in the first generation (even non-oled version)?

We have two switches in our family, both first gen, one usual and one oled. Standalone, usual screen is bearable, compared to oled it is quite bad, but if the new screen is even worse?? I can’t find any explanation for this except of greediness from Nintendo

nokeya··on Mercedes-Benz commits to bringing back physical buttons
I’m quite suspicious that they do that not because they understood or learned something, but because China requires physical buttons starting next year. And they simply don’t want to lose one of their biggest markets.
nokeya··on Got an Old Kindle? It Might Not Work Anymore
Just use Calibre to transfer books to the reader
nokeya··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
Serverless is down because servers are down. What an irony.
nokeya··on No I don't want to turn on Windows Backup with One Drive
Any examples of “something with recent kde”? I have Ubuntu currently, wanted to switch to the Mint, now want to hear more opinions
nokeya··on D4D4
May this be exploited?
nokeya··on A Simple CPU on the Game of Life (2021)
Now run DOOM on it
nokeya··on OpenIPC: Open IP Camera Firmware
Axis, Hanwha - not cheap but good and reliable

If Chinese brands don’t scare you: Hikvision is very good allarounder, Milesight, Uniview (UNV), Vivotek - good too

Dahua cheap but still usable

All other - don’t even bother

nokeya··on Major reversal in ocean circulation detected in the Southern Ocean
Thank you for explaining my thoughts clearer than I was able to do. Exactly.
nokeya··on Major reversal in ocean circulation detected in the Southern Ocean
My point is we have to adapt, whether we like it or not.
nokeya··on Microsoft opens a free tier for Windows 10 extended updates
Not only 5 year old PCs are still actual, but even 10 year old machines are still lot in use. Because there are already enough performance for everyday tasks for majority of tasks - videos, emails, messengers, etc. But this is a problem for Microsoft and computer manufacturers, they are overstocked and have to convince users somehow to upgrade even if there is no reason to do so.
nokeya··on They used Xenon to climb Everest in days – is it the future of mountaineering?
“Days instead of weeks on the mountain foot” - that’s the crucial point. Less time -> less money spent on accommodation, supplies, personnel there. Obviously they don’t want to lose income.
nokeya··on Lottie is an open format for animated vector graphics
There is an independent C++ library by Samsung called rlottie: https://github.com/Samsung/rlottie

Telegram uses it for animated stickers, Samsung itself uses it for icons on their smart watches

nokeya··on Universe expected to decay in 10⁷⁸ years, much sooner than previously thought
We are doooooomed!
nokeya··on Game preservationists say Switch2 GameKey Cards are disheartening but inevitable
If I give this GameKey card to the friend, will he be able to download and play it? With card inserted, of course. If not - these cards are just glorified activation codes
