Waymo does extensive mapping/scanning of the service areas.

The "correct" approach in many cases is to leave it be as filling requires the removal of healthy parts of the tooth.

Another factor in that case was that the government regulated, in some cases, the ratings of bonds that entities were allowed to buy (they couldn't be as highly levered with lower rated bonds) and so there was an incentive for bond ratings to be falsely inflated, happily carried out by the rating agencies. Of course collateralized junk is still junk, and many people at the time knew that, but there was money to be made in looking the other way.

I love them. I suppose it's personal preference

This would be incredibly hard to test because you'd have to have the results of the study and then wait a few decades to see who ends up identifying as transgender. Also the amount of transgender people is a small fraction of the population so you'd need a larger total sample size for the same statistical significance.

My experience interacting with transgender people is that transgender men and cisgender women have a lot of things in common and visa versa, so I would expect this to follow that pattern, but it would be interesting to see it studied.

If Amazon doesn't want to offer agent-first shopping I'm sure someone else will come along and eat their lunch. Adapt or die.

He could probably find someone to move the stuff for him for a small fee.

Yes, let's bring the experience of waiting at the DMV or dealing with the IRS to payment systems. Great idea

The bottom line is that the country cannot spend more than it makes in tax income indefinitely and anyone who says otherwise is delusional. Unfortunately, I think the reckoning for all this debt will come sooner than many people expect.

The watermark is in the text. If you copy the text you're copying the watermark which is part of the text.

Computerphile on YT has a video explaining how models can fingerprint the text they produce. Essentially they modify the probabilities of word choice slightly in a predictable way.

How terrifying that a bit of nature may be near a person! Better cover it with roundup so they don't have to suffer the horror of seeing a spider

3% is typical for a HYSA (Ally, for example)

1.75 is less than the money is losing value from inflation. If that savings is in USD it's quite a bit less than inflation over the past five years.

Actually the high income households are becoming a greater and greater share of spending, referred to as the "K shaped" economy. For example, the top quintile of households accounts for about 40% of all consumer spending.

It won't let you use the same letters in the same order again (e.g. LEASE -> LEASED). I think that's fair.

How could race-determined discrimination be anything other than racism?

Complexity is cost.

Surely a tax would be a better incentive mechanism than a hard cap.

All according to plan if you believe that Trump is a foreign-sponsored "useful idiot".

And US loses 1-4 even with their striker.

All states require tipped workers to make at least minimum wage, that's what a minimum wage is. However, usually they can make part of that wage in tips. In theory, if they make less then minimum wage in tips plus hourly wage, the employer is supposed to make up the difference. In practice, that doesn't always happen.

How does deep packet inspection work on encrypted traffic?

I'm reading this comment as sarcastic, you don't think that the recent infrastructure build out is a positive?

If this is happening in software engineering it would imply that Americans are moving to other, higher paid work which doesn't seem to be the case.

If the government wanted people to take holidays off they could just legislate that people can't work on those days. I doubt there is any political will to do this, though.

If at any point your counter-governmental action actually threatens to take some share of power away from the government, they will swiftly and quietly deal with you (they have about 1000 ways to track you, and AI reduces the cost of tracking greatly). If you are irrelevant you will mostly be ignored.

By the way, I'm sure that they are aware of all this privacy-first counter-tracking sentiment from certain communities, and are actively working to subvert it.

Surely all of those metrics can be easily gamed by a competent software engineer.

Well, yes, China has a large number of tarrifs imposed on it from the U.S.

It surprises me that any municipality would make that legal, seems dangerous.

There is no difference, from the model's point of view, between code it wrote and code someone else wrote. It's all just context.
