ntnbr··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Fun game! Shared with some friends :)
ntnbr··on Learning Persian with Anki, ChatGPT and YouTube
Cool! Have done a similar thing in the past with AP Psychology and Anki. ChatGPT is really helpful for turning Quizlet-esque flashcards into good-quality copy+pasteable Cloze cards in Anki.
ntnbr··on macOS Tahoe
I really dislike how everything MUST become rounded to be "more user-friendly and fluid". The UI looks awful and I will probably never be upgrading.
ntnbr··on What would you do with 52 hours a week of discretionary time? (2023)
That's a good point. When I wrote the article, I was thinking of the younger phone-addicted generation as my 'audience' and trying to convince them to spend time on doing meaningful things instead of just doom-scrolling on their phone. That's who I was writing for. My apologies if it came across as cliche.
ntnbr··on What would you do with 52 hours a week of discretionary time? (2023)
Very, very true. I'm now in college and am trying my best to savor the days when I have such little responsibility.
ntnbr··on What would you do with 52 hours a week of discretionary time? (2023)
Admittedly no. This was written back when I was a young teenager innocent to the complexities of the world :)
ntnbr··on Seedship – Text-Based Game
I love A Dark Room. Spent way too much time speedrunning that game, lol.
ntnbr··on What would you do with 52 hours a week of discretionary time? (2023)
That's fair. It's helpful for me to break time into discrete 'blocks' because in my mind, it sets off more alarm bells to say "I wasted 4 blocks" rather than "I wasted 40 minutes". But otherwise, yeah. It's pretty standard "don't waste your time" advice when it comes down to it.
ntnbr··on I organized a 10-day game of tag with 10 of my college friends
Yeah, it is unfortunately quite a bit harder to put on these types of games in a suburban area. Hence why I'm trying to do this type of stuff in college, while it's easy ;)
ntnbr··on Meta HN: Prevent new HN accounts from posting for n days?
Well, what's your suggestion for n? 3? 5?
ntnbr··on Discrete Mathematics – An Open Introduction, 4th edition
Seems pretty cool, especially for being free! I'm taking a discrete math course very soon at UT so this is nice.
ntnbr··on Tetris Is Forty Years Old
The “official” Tetris games suck. If you want actually good tetris sites, I would recommend tetr.io or jstris.jezevec10.com.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
We actually didn’t even run in the dark! We played from 4:45-6:30pm, where the sun was very much still shining. Maybe next time I host I’ll do it at night.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
We actually played in the evening, from about 4:45-6:30pm. The park where we played was surprisingly empty for a Friday evening.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
A bit of advice if you end up organizing it: make sure there's interesting terrain on both sides. Flat, open parks tend to be less fun to play in. Good luck, though!!
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
Dude that is actually so cool. I love the creativity!
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
Wow! I would be slightly worried about getting in trouble there, but yeah: it's pretty symmetric and has some interesting terrain. Thanks for the suggestion!
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
Thanks! Was definitely considering implementing "jail", but I wasn't sure where to put it for both teams, so I decided against it.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
Not at UT yet, but going to UT in the fall to study applied math! I'm definitely looking to organize more fun stuff like this in Austin.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
Thanks! The "flags" (balls) really make it more fun, because you can pass to other people.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
I (the author) am a senior in high school. It was mostly high school kids. Average age probably 16-17.
ntnbr··on I organized a 20-acre game of Capture the Flag
True. I got lucky: when we played, there were maybe 20-25 non-players in the entire playing area, so avoiding them was no problem. I didn't hear any complaints about our game. It could have definitely been a bigger problem; thankfully, it wasn't.

ntnbr··on Always Merge to Main
I like the grocery store analogy! Cool article.
