nullbio··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Like every Google model release, the benchmarks are never indicative of reality.
nullbio··on Claude Code regularly sends each background agent’s transcript to its model
Not good. Please fix.
nullbio··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
Reddit is by far the most toxic place on the web, yet somehow manages to get the least amount of scrutiny from regulators. Makes you wonder why, doesn't it?
nullbio··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
Yeah, it has nothing to do with 'hostile attitude'. There's just no reason to use StackOverflow when I can use a chatbot that gives me infinite StackOverflow answers for any conceivable problem I have, within seconds.
nullbio··on WorldTUI: I trained a 360M model to pretend to be a terminal
That reason is because people don't like change and they don't want to piss off their userbase and risk losing all their customers.

Gimp hasn't changed it's UI either, and no one uses it, because it sucks.

> Testosterone has a lot of negative side effects, and I know I certainly wouldn't mind having about half as much.

Luckily (not really though) for you, you already do. Average testosterone levels have halved over the past 50 years due to a variety of modern poisons we consume on a daily basis.

I have a big problem with people like the unelected "eSâfety comissioner" and others brainwashing our young men into believing their primary natural hormone is a negative thing. You'd never see this happen the other way around (ever heard a woman say she has too much estrogen or her estrogen is bad? Ever heard a government agency push that?), but society in the West is more misandric than it's ever been - primarily because of women like her who are paid to demonize men and their culture and interests, and then by the highly feminized poisoned men who help them spread their bs.

Men with lower testosterone levels are more anxious, less confident, prone to group-think, have more mental health issues, sexual dysfunction, fertility issues, bone loss, social reclusiveness and awkwardness, low muscle mass and strength, fatigue, and the list goes on.

These highly estrogenized youth are fighting against an unfair disadvantage placed on them by governments who refuse to regulate industry and trying to restore their bodies to healthy levels. This is probably intentional too, because lower-T men are easier to control and tend not to think for themselves or resist a tyrannical government who is abusing their power and pillaging the working class of their earned wealth - which is a perfect description of the current Australiân govt.

It's no coincidence that birth rates have plummeted to extinction level in countries that are affected by this.

> Indeed, she explicitly says that fibermaxxing is bad because it replaces a healthy diet

You're making excuses for her and I have no idea why. Fibermaxxing IS healthy, that's the entire point of it. It's literally about eating natural whole high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables instead of eating highly processed garbage, and supporting a healthy gut. She's actually advocating for an unhealthy diet and demonizing a healthy one. Not only that, but she's demonizing it because it's supposedly "manosphere" - not anything to do with health. Did you look up what those who do it are advocating for? Quick google search might help you dispell some of your preconceived notions.

Anything can be pushed to an unhealthy extreme. Exercise as well - you could physically exert yourself to death. But that's not what these trends are advocating for in general and only outliers go to the extremes. I'm surprised she didn't say "exercisemaxxing is misogynistic manosphere toxic masculinity" as well, would fit right in.

This whole thing would be far less frustrating and despicable if it were balanced - if they were going after the highly toxic and destructive feminist culture that is a far cry from the original, healthy feminist movement. If they were, I wouldn't even bother to talk about it, because at least I could say "fair enough - maybe their motives are genuine and they really are trying to resolve a divisive culture problem", but they don't. Because the people pushing this are part of that toxic new-wave feminist group and they have no interest in genuinely solving a problem, their interest is in shutting down the men who speak up against the corrupt government in Aus. Their interest is in controlling men because the govt sees men who think for themselves as a threat. No surprises that a government that has one of the largest percentage of women in it in the world would be pushing this slop though. It's also funny that whenever women are given positions of power they abuse their power to shit on men. There's a good lesson to be learned here.

nullbio··on Ofcom concedes defeat in 4chan case
Having spent a lot of time around kids who follow these trends, they're just looking to be better versions of themselves, and it's entirely healthy behaviour. Trying to optimize your hormone levels and eat healthy amounts of fiber is not misogynistic, "toxic masculinity", or "manosphere". Your response is a strawman, no one said anything about "abnormally high levels" - mens testosterone levels are half or 3x lower than they used to be on average because we're being poisoned on an international scale. Trying to get your levels back to a healthy natural level is not "abnormally high".

Turns out this is a problem with my system, not the software. Ignoring my graphics card issue, it's a great tool :)
nullbio··on Show HN: Ledge.sh – Runnable Markdown Notes
This is cool. I'll probably use this to store my commonly used prompts so I don't have to retype them all the time. For whatever reason I like being able to see all of their contents upfront like this instead of using skills, which feels like you're working in the dark. Then having the extra execution modes on top of that is great too.

Also, interestingly, this is great for creating task lists. Then you can execute each task one by one. Maybe consider adding something like hooks that lets you update the 'prompt' as well, or some state tag on it or something? (maybe you'll think of a better way to represent this), but basically, instead of having my agent write its todo lists like:

- [] task one

- [x] task two

You could write them as individual prompts in Ledge, and then have some system where it can update the state of the prompt so you could set it to completed once it's finished automatically via the agent.

Edit: Okay I just tried it. Not sure why, but on Linux (Ubuntu 26.04 with a 4090 rtx) it's REALLY laggy for me. Scrolling and resizing the window is glitching hardcore, and typing is very slow.

How? Obsidian lets you run a prompt like that?

nullbio··on Surprisingly complex waves reveal the brain's inner workings
It'd need to be calibrated to a specific frequency, likely some sort of resonant frequency of the cells or their machinery. Someone should run an experiment over the entire frequency band to see what happens.
nullbio··on Surprisingly complex waves reveal the brain's inner workings
Presumably the network would learn to reconfigure itself to compensate.

nullbio··on Dots: Always-on agents
More like 2 weeks later. Around 2 weeks after Astra launched they started dropping the juice levels. I was able to run on low or med initially without problem. Now I need to run on xhigh and the results are still not as good as they were on launch.
nullbio··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
It's probably -only- for subscriptions. The frontier labs seem to use the subscription models on a dial to serve and prioritize the API users better, because they get more profit there.
nullbio··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Do they use private benchmarks? Because if not, it could be selectively nerfed.

I also wonder if cache could be used to throw these off as well, where it's serving un-nerfed cache results for context windows that are identical to ones they've previously had for benchmark requests.

Seems like the only way to do it well would be to have some randomness involved that couldn't be cheated on - but you'd want to do it in a way that doesn't throw out the benchmarks too much, so your results can be compared still.

nullbio··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
The free mods are why the site sucks. It incentivizes power-trippers to gatekeep large communities without any common consensus on how moderation should be established, and without any oversight of the moderators.

There's no standard of professionalism or repercussion for being a terrible moderator, most of them are anon socially-weird outcasts with a chip on their shoulder.

When you're paying someone real money to be a moderator they tend to do a good job because they want to continue receiving that payment. The reward for a Reddit moderator is instead to feel like you're important and powerful, and that you can punish people you disagree with.

It also means that their power can generally be easily bought, because again, there's no repercussions for manipulating the board. Reddits incentives are entirely broken.

nullbio··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
It does, big time. Everything on Reddit is gamed and manipulated to spin a narrative. It's where certain demographics go to spin propaganda.
