nullocator··on Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain
The incompetence isn't necessarily with the workers, it can be coming from those at the top.
nullocator··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
I don't think that procreation should be a right only afforded to the wealthy. This seems incredibly unhealthy for both humanity and for the planet.
nullocator··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
Ya this is the big lie 2Aers are bought into, turns out being able to organize is as important or more than just having a bunch of guns and a ooh-rah attitude. And as you can see from article the government will be there if you start acting in a way the admin disapprove of
nullocator··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
Semi-serious question: if I didn't have to pay any income, property or sales tax I think I could build my fortune. Should we get rid of those?

> the great economy.

Great for who exactly? Certainly less great for the people who have no opportunity to gain wealth, because the currently wealthy don't contribute their fair share, or debatably don't contribute at all.

nullocator··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
This is someone's lived reality.
nullocator··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
If Elon musk can spend $500 million dollars every election year (in addition to everything else he does) the gains aren't unrealised and he can pay $500 million in taxes every year. Really the amount he can afford to pay and should fairly pay, imo at least 3%, would be much higher than $500 million.
nullocator··on A 28-Year-Old DOGE Operative Gutted USAID. HR Had No Record of Him Working There
Are you calling congress "HR"? Congress created USAID, and did not approve it being destroyed.
nullocator··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
If dems take back congress this election and the Iran war is still going by the 2028 election half the country will believe democrats started the war and want to continue it.
nullocator··on US annual budget gap hits nearly $2T, largest in 5 years
Sounds like 70 billion a year (by your optimistic estimates) towards narrowing the deficit, that ain't nothing!

And what _I_ actually want to do is tax all the individual billionaires out of existence and also have a high marginal rate on income, because why not both?

nullocator··on US annual budget gap hits nearly $2T, largest in 5 years
I didn't say it would solve all the problems, I said it would move the needle.

I guess you're right, I don't understand. We mustn't tax the wealthiest people, and no amount of actual figures is going to convince people like you folks otherwise, not when there are billionaires to glaze.

I've been alive for quite a while now, and my actual _lived experience_ is republicans have cut taxes on the wealthy every time they've been in power for decades and decades, but sure keep trying to convince us that "billionaires are paying more taxes than ever!" and that ackshually it's the damn poors who aren't being taxed enough!

nullocator··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
The current board members would need to pass away or move away first, and I personally don't want any power or authority over my neighbors and I wish they didn't have it over me.
nullocator··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
This is exactly what happens for many HOAs around the country.

Typically elections would take place during the annual meeting. Usually there is such low community engagement that there is no home owner quorum under the Covenants Conditions & Restrictions. Depending on the CC&Rs a property management or build rep will appoint the open board seats, or for example in the case of my HOA they will go by default to whomever is attending the meeting and wants the spot, assuming the current board doesn't object to that person.

For my association the board has basically been self appointing each other and their spouses for the last 15+ years. The current president has managed to obtain several proxy votes of rental property owners and the current board members use these to overrule any objections to them reseating themselves. They also squash any attempts to force a community wide vote, because again lack of quorum. Basically impossible to get enough people to actually attend the meeting to get the current board replaced, especially when they've gone all digital and tend to cancel/reschedule the meetings last minute and then provide very little notice of the new time.

nullocator··on Tesla 'Cannot Guarantee' Roadster Reservation Holders Will Ever Get a Car
Presumably the tax payers subsidizing SpaceX and now twitter, and soon Tesla, and perhaps also anyone where their retirement is being risked because Elon Musk/SpaceX are trying to game and manipulate the index funds.
nullocator··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
Yes, that is explicitly and exactly the reason municipalities exist. In the U.S. they are typically made up of elected and appointed representatives and they manage public space and services in their boundaries.

Mostly I don't understand why an individual neighborhood would need it's own out of band election process (that typically allows people to gain tremendous power and authority without anyone voting for them), and representatives completely decoupled from the state or government but often times acting in parallel.

nullocator··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
Did you even consider why it's illegal to turn off the water? And maybe ask yourself how foreclosing on someone who can't pay for water only seems like a way to skirt the law and take water away from them in addition to their shelter.
nullocator··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
There is no reason to stomach an HOA, even if they are solving real problems. If there are real problems that need solving the municipality can handle it or a local cooperative can in some special cases; these can exist without any enforcement or review board authority and they can handle everything else you'd need for a community/centrally managed for a neighborhood.
nullocator··on US annual budget gap hits nearly $2T, largest in 5 years
Weird how it seemed to work out okay, without only creating inflation from the 1930s-1980s right up until Ronald Reagan and the Republicans decided it couldn't possibly work anymore. We can all see how well that switch has gone; or at least most of us can.
nullocator··on US annual budget gap hits nearly $2T, largest in 5 years
Perhaps these people don't want to tax billionaires enough.
nullocator··on Retired Penn professor arrested for blocking Uber Eats robot
Ah, the problem here is you presumably aren't a corporation and therefore likely didn't consider contributing monetarily to the prosecutor's campaign funds. This is how you get your interests considered by the state.
nullocator··on Retired Penn professor arrested for blocking Uber Eats robot
Personally reliable robot delivery service is not a priority for me. Especially when these things already negatively impact the communities they are placed in, take up limited public space, are duel purpose domestic surveillance devices, and are in general an eye sore.

Is it not enough that we've blanketed the country in concrete and asphalt, we've also got to inundate our crosswalks and side walks with thousands of delivery robots and whatever else, and then give them deference? Where the hell are the people supposed to go?

I understand that the ideal human for capitalism is one that sits inside their $6000 a month 10'x10' unipod, never leaves and consumes non-stop, but this is not what I want out of life. I applaud anyone working against these efforts using non-violent protests.

nullocator··on Retired Penn professor arrested for blocking Uber Eats robot
What about the robot's interfering with my ability to operate in public? Perhaps you've never been at an intersection where one of these things has either died in the middle of the road or is having some kind of malfunction and is inhibiting traffic or commerce. I don't see anyone saying the criminal justice system should incarcerate the CEO of Uber Eats for incalculable damages to society.

In before "there is a difference between a robot accidentally blocking traffic and this woman blocking the robot intentionally" - No the fuck there isn't. If these robots can't be even circumnavigate a stationary elderly woman, or act reliably then they don't belong on the streets and anyone who put them there is acting criminally and negligently about the risks and harms.

nullocator··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
Because MAGA is anti "the world"
nullocator··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
Why would the documentary reference a book that it has nothing to do with? It's not an adaptation of prior works on Holmes or Theranos. You Can See Everything is something else all together.
nullocator··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
Why is it the salary of the doctors and nurses that is the primary factor and not profit seeking insurance industries and corporate health facilities?
nullocator··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
On one hand agreed, on the other though I don't know if we can take this as especially important from a President that lies about literally everything. Not sure if him telling the truth about their plans would have actually changed anything.
nullocator··on US annual budget gap hits nearly $2T, largest in 5 years
What's wrong with taxing billionaires? Seems like it could meaningfully move the needle on a number of issues.
nullocator··on Tesla Roadster
I certainly don't think it was a car that flies. It could be a car that can do dangerous party tricks for no practical reason but I kinda doubt that do. Hell we live in an AI world now, why are you so confident it's what they claim it is, what in Musk or Tesla's track record indicates that this is anything but a hype effort?
nullocator··on Tesla Roadster
I can't wait for some rich asshole going 120 mph to backflip their Tesla into my Outback on the interstate.
nullocator··on Tesla Roadster
I suspect it "actually flies" much the same way the cybertruck is bullet proof and has an ultra hard stainless steel exoskeleton, in that it doesn't. This seems like smoke and mirrors conman shit pumped up to 11.
