oblaff··on Palantir has courted N.H.S. England with pandemic help and assertive lobbying
I don't think impulsive is the right word, but it is concerning that someone who is fervently anti-democractic is a key stakeholder in these sorts of public private partnerships globally.
oblaff··on Ask HN: Any interesting books you have read lately?
Capitalism and Desire by Todd Mcgowan

An interesting perspective on the psychic appeal of capitalism + an approachable introduction to lacanian psychoanalysis -- if you're into that sort of stuff.

oblaff··on Tech's Elite Hates Labor
The idea that the solution to lacking capital is to _raise capital_ is a contradiction.
oblaff··on Ask HN: What are some good tech magazines?
https://logicmag.io/
oblaff··on Ask HN: Does targeted advertising work at all?
Agreed. Online advertising measurement remains opaque and there is no incentive to fix it.

The book Subprime Attention Crisis by Tim Hwang does a good job covering this! (It is a solid bear case for fb,g,etc as well :p)

oblaff··on Breakdown of data on homeless populations across the U.S.
I still have a difficult time understanding how increased homelessness is not a direct result of the number of comedy clubs per capita. The data presented corroborates as much and though correlation doesn’t mean causation, correlation certainly doesn’t indicate a lack of causation either. We go to great lengths to justify the results when the simplest explanation is staring right at you.
