ocbyc··on California's Digital Age Assurance Act, and FOSS
What about servers inside AWS? Lamda instances are arguably operating systems. LOL. It's a mess!
ocbyc··on Mac external displays for designers and developers, part 2 (2022)
The new Mac monitor supports 120hz.

I have a 5k2k 44" OLED monitor from LG. Looks great on my Mac Studio.

This is a mess.

ocbyc··on Microsoft is a national security threat: ex-White House cyber policy director
Isn't that a problem caused by inflation which is driven (right now) by gov spending.
ocbyc··on Microsoft is a national security threat: ex-White House cyber policy director
How can we possibly spend more?
ocbyc··on Microsoft is a national security threat: ex-White House cyber policy director
This is a straw man. Even if the top richest people paid an additional 16 billion in taxes that would run the gov for like a day. Our problem is with spending.
ocbyc··on Is GPT-4 a good data analyst? (2023)
Transformers are just pattern matching. So if you write "give me a list of dog names" it knows that "Spot" should be in that result set. Even though it doesn't really know what a dog is, a list is, or what a spot is.
ocbyc··on LAUSD to purchase 180 electric school buses
I guess we hope these busses will last 35+ years?
ocbyc··on Debris Field Confirmed as Titan
Probably was the porthole. It looks like the view port was rated for 1,300 meters. (They were descending to 4,000 meters) An engineer even warned them of the issue, and was fired. I suppose they didn't want to spend the money to develop an adequate one.
ocbyc··on Edge sends images you view online to Microsoft
You have multiple parents or they have multiple computers?

What did you replace Windows with?

ocbyc··on The impact of the ‘long peace’ on modern military capabilities
Well we left a bunch of the mraps behind. So I guess they gotta start over.
ocbyc··on SFUSD's delay of algebra 1 has created a nightmare of workarounds
YouTube is probably the best source of education delivered by passionate teachers at this point.
ocbyc··on UK: Food inflation rises to 18.2% as it hits highest rate in over 45 years
Yes, we need cheaper energy. Nuclear is a good option. Many drawbacks of previous gen reactors have been solved.
ocbyc··on UK: Food inflation rises to 18.2% as it hits highest rate in over 45 years
I had to scroll down to far. Cheap nuclear energy now!
ocbyc··on U.S. FAA closes some airspace in Montana for Defense Department activities
Additionally it explains why a balloon made it as far as it did. Extra work, but we're on alert.

LG+ ROKU seems to be a good alternative to Samsung's Bloat.

ocbyc··on Silicon Valley’s Unbridled Euphoria Runs into Economic Reality
But it's a NYT article.
ocbyc··on Silicon Valley’s Unbridled Euphoria Runs into Economic Reality
Paywalled PR.
ocbyc··on California’s greenhouse gas reductions could be wiped out by 2020 wildfires
That's why the externalities of CO2 management are too great for us to make a meaningful impact with legislation. We share an atmosphere with China, India, and everyone else. Game theory abounds.
ocbyc··on California’s greenhouse gas reductions could be wiped out by 2020 wildfires
Mismanagement of forests.
ocbyc··on Five billion phones to be thrown away in 2022?
Actually, from an economic perspective, you should tackle the lowest hanging fruit. Assuming we can only tackle a non-unlimited amount of issues at any given time.

I'm assuming this article hits the dopamine because everyone has a phone, and it's a very personal item and everyone upgrades / replaces them eventually. A window A/C on the other hand, not so much.

ocbyc··on FTC to crack down on companies taking advantage of gig workers
A worker is worth what a business can pay for the value they bring. Arguably a low paid apprenticeship is more beneficial than mounds of college debt. Somehow taking debt is seen as better than simply breaking even. I know many jobs that would benefit from someone "sweeping the shop" while they learn the business.
ocbyc··on Welcome to Your Airbnb, Cleaning Fees Is $143 and You Still Have to Wash Linens
And might make a cleaner sigh a bit of relief.
ocbyc··on FTC to crack down on companies taking advantage of gig workers
Often these "gigs" are extremely flexible for students that can't work a full time job, and have random periods of idle time. Notwithstanding higher education should be more attainable by those same gig workers.

It feels like they're trying to move the first rung of the ladder higher and higher. They would rather a young person take on mounds of debt, instead of say a low paid internship or apprenticeship. Current minimum wages ensure automation are going to win.
