oil7abibi··on Coinbase Index Fund
Do you have any open APIs? I’m working on a portfolio application and would love to offer an integration like this.
oil7abibi··on Ask HN: I'm writing a book about white-collar drug use, including tech sector
It said to have characteristics of a holy grail stimulant: increased performance without the crash or heavy tolerance build.
oil7abibi··on Apple confirms it uses Google cloud for some of iCloud
Idk, seems like that would be a pretty standard abstraction layer to implement at a large company.
oil7abibi··on Email exchange between MIT Media Lab and the IOTA Foundation [pdf]
Ah IOTA, the same ‘company’ that created a fake partnership with Microsoft to pump up their cryptocurrency price...
oil7abibi··on Keep your Identity Small (2009)
Plenty of cultures attach identities to their societies - Sunni/Shi’a, Hutu/Tutsi, etc. Other cultures don’t focus as much on their “work identity” as you described, but they fill their identities with others.

Source: lived overseas and been to 25+ countries.

oil7abibi··on How to Study Mathematics (2017)
All his visualizations are open source.
oil7abibi··on Performance Benchmark 2018 – MongoDB, PostgreSQL, OrientDB, Neo4j and ArangoDB
For future reference, I find the back ticks to decrease readability, at least on iOS.
oil7abibi··on Worries Grow That the Price of Bitcoin Is Being Propped Up
So if Tether was FDIC backed, then you’d technically be OK with this situation?
oil7abibi··on Uber Bike – A New Way to Commute or Explore
I’ve ridden some Bird scooters in Santa Monica. They’re amazingly fun. But yes, scooters are left at night, especially on the beach bike path when they finally run out of battery. I can’t imagine Bird not sinking a lot of money into gathering those scooters and charging them every night.
oil7abibi··on Tips for Application Performance (2015)
Which gave the biggest performance boost? I’d wager #3. 20 seconds sounds pretty absurd unless you’re being really inefficient on your server or are moving around lots of data.
oil7abibi··on Robinhood Crypto – Invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
> The government has a system in place.
oil7abibi··on Robinhood Crypto – Invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
The fact you’re browsing HN and have read all those books probably means you’re not the average user (read more intelligent) of RH. Just read the RH subreddit and looks at all the novice questions the users there ask.
oil7abibi··on Robinhood Crypto – Invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
They also make money by selling orders to high frequency traders. The User accepts at potential 5% markup on orders in exchange for “zero-fee trades.” https://startupsventurecapital.com/robinhoods-exceptionally-...
oil7abibi··on Developer Skills Report
Hold up. They asked “Vim or Emacs?”, not “What’s your favorite editor?” That’s why the answer distribution looks like that. I think we all know there are more normal text editor/IDE users than vi/emacs users.
oil7abibi··on Santa Monica Measured Residents’ Well-Being for Four Years
Of all the cities in the 25 different countries I traveled to, Santa Monica is definitely up there. Great location in LA, amazing food, vibrant neighborhoods, beautiful (and mostly friendly) people. Biggest downside to me is that there isn’t enough tech opportunities there. Else I’d move there in a heartbeat.
oil7abibi··on Walkable Streets Are More Economically Productive
You remember an apartment fire there about a year ago by any chance?
oil7abibi··on BitConnect Closes Exchange as States Warn of Unregulated Sales
My friend has met some of Poloniex’s engineers. I think they’re based out of SF.
oil7abibi··on Bitcoin Fall Extends to 25% as Fears of Crackdown Linger
It’s a joke...
oil7abibi··on Researchers find that one person likely drove Bitcoin from $150 to $1,000
Perhaps, but bitcoin futures are advertised like crazy on the the futures exchange, but volume is completely minuscule compared to other commodities (and crypto exchanges for that matter).
oil7abibi··on AirBnB units drop by 74% due to SF regulations
I mean not everyone will have a chance right away to register their listings. Give it a month or so, then check back on the numbers.
oil7abibi··on Getting Started with Algorithmic Cryptocurrency Trading
All this post is how to set up a github project. Nothing more. I’d hope to rather see writing on portfolio management, risk management, or other strategies.

That said, Zenbot actually provides a decent platform to start trading.

oil7abibi··on Exercise Alters Our Microbiome
Interesting, thanks for the info.
oil7abibi··on Filecoin 2017 Q4 Update
Wow, I find Sia’s update way more user-friendly than Filecoins — no buzzwords, just clean comprehensive updates. Filecoin honestly seems to have an air of technical/academic pretentiousness to them.
oil7abibi··on MoneyGram Signs Deal to Work with Currency Startup Ripple
I think one thing people, especially on HN, need to remind themselves of is the price isn’t determined by what _you_ think, it’s determined by what _everyone else_ thinks.
oil7abibi··on Exercise Alters Our Microbiome
Woah there, bananas and potatoes are not similar foods at all. Yes they both primarily provide carbs, but the glycemic index of bananas is 48, while potatoes are at from 82-111 (https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/glyce...). Don’t make incorrect assertions.
oil7abibi··on Hacking a Google Interview (2009)
What are your thoughts on doing PM right out of school? I interned at Msft as a PM and SWE. Now I’m trying to decide between the two rolls.
oil7abibi··on Tim Cook Stumbles at His Specialty, Shipping Apple Products on Time
Nifty.
oil7abibi··on 'Picasso', the Painter on GDAX?
What did he say?
oil7abibi··on Ask HN: What happens to society if we run out of oil?
I’m an exploration engineer at Saudi Armaco. It will be a long long time (hundreds of years) before we run out of oil; and each year we discover new kinds of crude reservoirs.
