The pandemic is not a black swan! There have been many pandemics in the history of mankind, so the pandemic was predictable.

Nicholas Taleb himself is “irritated” whenever the coronavirus pandemic is referred to as a "black swan" (https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/the-pandemic-is...).

ooOOoo··on RIP Google Music
Google Music uploaded & purchased songs are automatically transferred to YouTube Music. Google music is not really killed. It is just replaced by Youtube Music, which has has a much better interface and also includes all music videos from Youtube, a killer feature for me. See https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/answer/9698084?hl=en

ooOOoo··on Chrome DevTools in 2016 and Beyond
The definition of "Progressive Web Apps" according to Google is on https://developers.google.com/web/progressive-web-apps/ and https://codelabs.developers.google.com/codelabs/your-first-p...:

"A Progressive Web Apps is:

* Progressive - Works for every user, regardless of browser choice because it's built with progressive enhancement as a core tenet.

* Responsive - Fits any form factor: desktop, mobile, tablet, or whatever is next.

* Connectivity independent - Enhanced with service workers to work offline or on low-quality networks.

* App-like - Feels like an app to the user with app-style interactions and navigation because it's built on the app shell model.

* Fresh - Always up-to-date thanks to the service worker update process.

* Safe - Served via HTTPS to prevent snooping and to ensure content hasn't been tampered with.

* Discoverable - Is identifiable as an "application" thanks to W3C manifest and service worker registration scope, allowing search engines to find it.

* Re-engageable - Makes re-engagement easy through features like push notifications.

* Installable - Allows users to "keep" apps they find most useful on their home screen without the hassle of an app store.

* Linkable - Easily share via URL, does not require complex installation."

ooOOoo··on Use micromorts to fight terrorism
Schneier called micromort a "great concept" (https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2012/11/micromorts_1....).

"There's a related term, microlife, for things that reduce your lifespan. A microlife is 30 minutes off your life expectancy. So smoking two cigarettes has a cost of one microlife."

ooOOoo··on How Google Got Design
Material design is great but I am still wondering how google could release the new Chrome bookmark manager which is a usability nightmare. It requires you to click many times to set a bookmark directory instead of just typing some tag. Basic usability testing would have shown this.

ooOOoo··on Knightmare: A DevOps Cautionary Tale (2014)

Isn't it the opposite? Google maps works 80% of the time, but for the 20% remaining, you need to look at more specialized maps. For example look at https://www.google.com/maps?q=lamma+island : almost nothing, just of few paths. Now look at http://www.map.gov.hk/ : all paths and houses in Lamma are precisely described!

ooOOoo··on Xiaomi's phones have conquered China – now it's aiming for the rest of the world
From CNET: "Xiaomi's Redmi offers exceptional value for its low price, and blows all other budget handsets out of the water. If you're looking for a cheap Android smartphone without having to compromise performance, look no further." http://www.cnet.com/products/xiaomi-redmi/
