orphea··on LLM Voice
Imagine you cooked something great, a deliciously tender cake or something. I ask you if I can try some, you say sure, cut off a little piece for me, then you drop it and tell I can have it on the floor. That is what AI is doing for writing. Why should I care how the cake would taste, if I don't like eating on the floor?
orphea··on I Hate Cookie Consent
First, please see [1].

Second, yes, I did. The first two sentences of the article are:

  > I hate cookie banners. And I hate them even more when the sites showing them don't obey them.
Notice "And". While I agree that hating cookie banners in general was not the main topic of the article, it was an independent statement. Which I commented on.

orphea··on I Hate Cookie Consent

  > I hate cookie banners.
Shows a cookie banner.

Did you know that if you don't use cookies (or other persistent tokens) for ads and tracking, you don't need to show the banner? So maybe direct your hate to website owners? And yourself.

orphea··on Microsoft and CMU team up to train early career software engineers

  > given the rate at which models are improving
Right. https://xkcd.com/605/

  > in 3 to 5 years software development could be fully automated.
Yes, and as we all know, AI has replaced software engineers "in 6 months" several times by now.
orphea··on Show HN: Unfenced – Land for sale that borders public land
Which LLM did you use?
orphea··on Tiny Little Office
Not a luddite, it's just allergy to slop, that's normal.
orphea··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
I have, yes.

I don't reject AI in development. I reject garbage and attempts to mislead people.

orphea··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
The link is a piece of crap wrapped in candy packaging, able to fool anyone who couldn't be bothered to unwrap the candy. DOA slop. It has nothing to do with either art or craft. This is actually a perfect example why agents' code cannot be trusted.
orphea··on Discover vibe-coded alternatives to popular software

  > Does the label "vibe-coded" even make sense
Yes.

  > if even in major organizations most of the code is written by LLM-based agents?
Then it just means that these major organizations are vibe-coding.

orphea··on I hired an illustrator to draw my house. Now it's my Home Assistant dashboard
I'm sorry, I have a hard time understanding you. Correct me if I'm wrong, are you saying that

1. paying an illustrator is non-economically-viable for 99% of homelabbers? and

2. AI would have done it at an equivalent quality level?

orphea··on JetBrains reports revenue growth, net financial loss for 2025

orphea··on A map of every lighthouse

orphea··on Show HN: A working 3D model of an Enigma machine
I don't follow. How is a polite question if the code can be shared (not even a request to share the code), freeloading entitlement?
orphea··on Built a Lego minifigure configurator. Shuffle until something makes you laugh
The Shuffle button is in the worst possible place (the top right corner of the page) :/
orphea··on Resist "AI"
What I hate the most is people vomiting AI slop communicating with others. I have teammates who decided that an agent producing a wall of text summarizing changes in a pull request instead of a simple "LGTM" is a good idea. I have teammates who talk using AI almost exclusively (you can see a small tag "Sent using Claude" or "Sent using Cursor" under their messages)

orphea··on Bing Wallpaper showing Ad for Harry Potter and Fantastic beasts box set
I wish we could stay on topic. Every time a submission is about Windows, 90% of comments are either:

- "how is it surprising that Windows is bad? [unrelated story]"

- "linux linux linux switch to linux"

orphea··on Bing Wallpaper showing Ad for Harry Potter and Fantastic beasts box set
Not sure either but I got the ad today. Previous wallpapers match what I see on bingwalls, but not the today's.
orphea··on Usbsid-Pico: Bridging Real Commodore 64 Sound to Modern USB
I did make it play one pre-uploaded track, then I started to think about all the improvements I could make, like reading an SD card, adding a display with a menu, control buttons, a web interface to drag-and-drop and play tracks, etc. Basically, analysis paralysis. I'm still learning how not to do that to myself.

Here it is, biding its time :) https://imgur.com/a/vvHpyS8

> So -O3 isn't a "nice-to-have" for this firmware; it's load-bearing.

Lmao, this is a good one!

> Here's a picture of my cat :-)

Come on, this is cheating! Okay, fine, here's my upvote :-P

Awesome post, thanks for sharing your journey. I was making a similar project but I put it aside and didn't finish it. I couldn't get any real SID chip as they cost a small fortune each, even if you can find one for purchase. I bought [1] as sort of a replacement. The sound was quite nice.

To me it reeks of Claude. The same yellow/brown tint.

But I might be wrong:

orphea··on HomeOS – A self-hosted family dashboard for a kitchen touchscreen
From the README.md:

> Manages household tasks, shopping lists, notes, prayer times, and birthdays from a single shared display.

So what does it *operate* exactly?
