p_j_w··on Just a little AI resistance, as a treat
> You can just prompt your AI agent to "avoid sounding like AI."

I’ve tried this with claude. I told it to output HTML that didn’t look like it came from claude and to avoid common claudisms. It didn’t work and still used claude boxes all over the place. I’m sure with enough time I could get it there, but at that point I may as well write the HTML myself.

p_j_w··on BYD sold more EVs last month than the US did all quarter
> The west doesn’t want to move forward and instead are doubling down on fossil fuel energy

The west? You mean the USA. Europe is happy to leave the past behind.

p_j_w··on AI is ruining haunted houses
>I am sure that there is some abstract art that is intended not to produce any emotion whatsoever

It's not abstract, but Jeff Koons, probably.

p_j_w··on Solar surpasses nuclear power globally for first time
Maybe read the article.
p_j_w··on Tesla Roadster
Seriously, I bet these are the same people who were shitting on the Hyperloop!

Who is suggesting that every shareholder be jailed?
p_j_w··on Mistral Large 4
>The propaganda of trying to make US and China government appear the same [...] is one of the most heavily used tools in China’s online propaganda arsenal.

The government could do some very easy things to remove this tool from China's toolbelt. Like you know, prosecuting rich people when they've earned it.

p_j_w··on Returning from vacation? The government can search your phone without a warrant
> how else would you be able to see that worrying signal without answering the question they asked?

Was anyone ever refused entry because they had an image poking fun at Kamala Harris? There, your question has been answered.

p_j_w··on What even is an OS now?
Free is better.
p_j_w··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
This has been going on since at least the mid 1970s if the graphs in the article are anything to go by. How will you blame the screens then?
p_j_w··on What even is an OS now?
> Same with my money in the bank.

I’d love for this to be the case, but we’re going to need laws to make it happen. Banks will have to be forced into it and probably also shielded from liability in case the user does something dumb.

Maybe we can force them into providing APIs for us while we’re at it so I don’t have to pay Plaid if I want to build an app to track my finances.

p_j_w··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
> every government since the mid-2010s has been elected on the explicit promise to build more houses, they cannot do so because of the electoral consequences

This doesn’t add up. Promising to get more housing built is getting these people elected, but they can’t make good on this promise because then they will lose their election?

> Political Correctness has a similar idea that by adjusting the terminology we use, we can purge biases and historical implications and speak in a purer way.

You either misunderstand political correctness or are trying to make it sound more nefarious than it is. It is nothing more than an effort, sometimes overdone and misguided, to not say things that make minorities feel bad. It’s nothing more than an attempt to broaden what’s considered good manners.

If anyone serious thinks political correctness is going to end racism, I certainly haven’t seen it.

> Psychoanalysis has its own idea of repression - where a person struggles to BLOCK our associations between ideas, memories, and words in order to try to stop one thought from being contaminated by another, intolerable thought.

It’s been a while since I took Psych 101, but my memory is that, according to Freud, repression is subconscious. There’s no struggle possible because there is no intent. It’s also about memories and emotions, so if it WAS an intentional act, it’s not an attempt to control language. It wouldn’t be about trying to not think of the word cat, but trying to not think about that time when your cat died.

>The cop said, “You’re under arrest,” grabbed her arms, and pulled her out of the room. “I can do this all night. I get paid by the hour,” the cop added.

Two sentences showing precisely why no one can trust the police. Not only are they completely unaccountable, but they will trample your first amendment rights and do so with smug amusement in full public view. These are the kinds of people we're supposed to be happy to give massive surveillance power to?

p_j_w··on ZuckOff is a free app that sees Meta glasses before they see you
It’s been over 150 years since we killed a bunch of tyrants here, and even then a lot of the tyrants got to live.
p_j_w··on OpenAI buys smartphone camera maker Glass Imaging for $300M
Who wants to vibe code all of their phone apps? Vibe coding is cheaper than traditional core, but it certainly isn’t free.
p_j_w··on Global bond yields hit 2008 highs, raising stakes for big borrowers
At least in the US, conservatives have done more to increase the debt than liberals for the last 40 years at least.
p_j_w··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
Their god has literally ordered them to genocide people because they had a war 400 years previous.
p_j_w··on iPhone Duo
> Apple these days has completely lost touch with what people actually want.

Did you see how well the base iPhone 17 sold? Macbook Neo?

p_j_w··on Getting your hands dirty is good for you
Skin cancer may be less deadly than other types of cancer, but it is still far more deadly than not having cancer. Rattlesnake bites in the US have a lower mortality rate than skin cancer, are you gonna go trying to handle rattlesnakes without protection or safety measures?

p_j_w··on Evidence of Fraud in an Influential Study About Procrastination
ECT is a very specific subset of electrical shocks. Just because ECT can have adverse effects doesn't mean all electric shocks will.
p_j_w··on Hacking IKEA Furniture
I’ve got a 10 year old Ikea bed that has passed this test twice now, even though I’ve lost some pieces.

p_j_w··on DHS is using obscure law to snoop on journalists, non-profits, unions
You want them to be able to snoop on journalists and unions without showing any sort of criminal behavior? Definitely checking those Republican boxes.
p_j_w··on Lawmakers added $1 to car insurance policies. That money paid for Flock cameras
If what you say is true it doesn’t sound hard to say at all, it seems clear that the cameras didn’t reduce the thefts at all.
p_j_w··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
Brian Thompson killed more people than Luigi.
p_j_w··on Worst-case glacial lake flood scenarios in a transboundary Himalayan basin 2022
This is a common misrepresentation that deniers use to rationalize their unscientific position. The vast majority of the science, even in the 70s, stated that global warming was our future, not global cooling.
