I use gemini for everything not-coding, from doing research, to have custom personas for more niche topics (and feeding more detailed knowledge in these cases).
For coding and image editing, right now I find ChatGPT superior. And for software architecture designs or planning Claude is the best since a while. I still have to try Grok to be fair.
On ActivityPub and Nostr you develop all kind of applications already, it is not only Twitter clones, but also Instagram clones, Reddit clones, on Nostr there is even the resurrected Vine (https://about.divine.video/).
And it is not trivial to switch from the Bluesky did:plc (which you cannot run in write-mode on your own and need to use the official Bluesky owned) to did:web, which you can run on your own.
The point is that without talking with Bluesky, you cannot start your own ATProto product or you'll get throttled from the network.
Basically, because they didn't warn Bluesky that they were going live, they had their traffic heavily trottled and they were unable to function.
So long for decentralisation if you need to talk to the owner of the protocol you are trying to use...
- content not in line with the political left is censored
- sure, you have your data in your PDS, but it is de-facto useless if the central identity server of Bluesky goes down
- ActivityPub and Nostr solve this already without being owned by a company
- you cannot easily and cheaply have an ATProto instance. AP and Nostr solve this already
If Wsocial was on ActivityPub or Nostr nothing similar would have happened.
ATProto has serious centralisation problems, baked into the design. And it makes sense, considering it came out of a Twitter R&D experiment to "decentralise" Twitter itself. Pure federation was never part of the initial design.
ActivityPub and Nostr solve the issue already.
The vast majority of self-help books out there are ghost-written upsales trash.
Google doesn't care they do not control iOS. Google cares to have their products everywhere. For many years Google apps were better on iOS than on Android, because on Android they just preinstall them while on iOS they need to be installed explicitly.
Android is not a Google product, it is just a tool for Google to collect data. If they manage to collect data via Apple Intelligence they are going to do it. Regardless of what Apple marketing says.
Mozilla is managing Thunderbird as a second class citizen since way too long.
If they relaunch, I hope they develop something integrated with the fediverse. I believe the time to build walled gardens is over, plugging with the fediverse might give them a running start to build something g together with the wide fediverse community, maybe something easier to use for non-techies and well moderated.
We will see I guess…
Loco follows up the Rails formula pretty closely, and makes easier to learn Rust by taking care of a load of boilerplate code.
My timeline is completely useless, I have an endless stream of suggested post and ads, nothing relevant to me.
Meta is supposed to know me, I use Instagram quite a bit (following F1 teams, some comedians and a bunch of tiktok-style content creators), but somehow this does not translate in targeting on FB, just generic targeting for my population type.
I tried Threads and it was the same. Pretty useless.
Say what you want about X, but at least there I can curate my Following tab and Lists, and have an informative experience.
Except for Instagram due to my F1 passion, Meta is completely useless for me. And once I move those followings on X and Youtube, I guess I'll have no use for Meta software at all. Kind of a shame.
Less impact on gamers…
Make a Disqus-like comment section that shows the comments in RSS articles from Reader.
Also Reddit, by empowering the GReader Groups capabilities.
But no, let's copy Facebook and force everybody on it. And kill Google Talk while at it.
I'll never forgive Google for that.
The vast majority of Linux users are very happy to get an official GOG Galaxy for Linux. I hope they will plug into Proton and collaborate with Valve, but we really need official tools and brands on Linux for common users to feel comfortable enough to come over.
It is not unreasonable to get a pair of titles to promote these two new products.
A man can dream, but a new HL for the Steam Machine and a new Portal for the Frame would be great.
Go and Rust produce native binaries, I wish C# had an official native compiler without the big runtime needs of .Net.
I went back to Mastodon, it’s much better to follow tech people.
And feedly for RSS to get all the news I can dream of.
Not sure what the point of Bluesky is anymore, it’s just twitter but on the left side of politics. Sad, the tech stack was interesting as an evolution of Nostr.
What's annoying is that they are impacting paying customers as well, which is quite bad.
Just save the pictures in the camera roll and important messages in your notes app of choice.
Most musicians use Apple platforms, so focusing only on Android could be limiting.
I wonder if this is a weird tasting the waters for an eventual MS Azure Linux Desktop Edition...
