patchtopic··on Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes
suits are flimsy and need to be dry cleaned.
patchtopic··on Anthropic just wrote a statement just to confirm all concerns about watermarking
ditto
patchtopic··on Who does Anubis actually stop?
perhaps the author, instead of the "I'm so clever" theoretical arguments from the client side, actually implemented Anubis on the server side and observe the results.

I have set it up on a few sites being relentlessly hammered by clearly idiotic bot traffic, and it drops bot the traffic levels from insane to manageable. I don't even care if the traffic is AI or bots, if the bot has gone to the same effort as the author has the bot may even just access the site in a responsible manner and that's fine.

patchtopic··on OpenWrt One – Open Hardware Router
I purchased one of these for a family member and it has been great.
patchtopic··on Frog-derived gut bacterium eradicates tumors in mice
rest of the site has the usual "cooker" insane brainrot ivermectin, etc crap
patchtopic··on Google workspace threatening to block Firefox access
antitrust
patchtopic··on Linux 7.1
before and after apache logs showing much less crap in them from bots. Do you think the maintainers of https://lore.kernel.org/ would leave something in that didn't work? It isn't perfect but I have run it on a (much smaller) web site getting hammered by bots and logged "before" and "after" and the difference is measurable.
patchtopic··on Total Reciprocity Public License
what packages use it?
patchtopic··on You can just say it
these keep it real types obviously not having to deal with the day to day crap I deal with. using LLM to redraft emails/support calls for a particular large firewall turned an enfuriating endless feedback loop of makework support nonsense into 2 message resolution.

Sharing the prompts would have messed it all up for sure.

There are other instances where I have shared fairly direct, but not what I would consider rude or aggressive emails to people and had them freak out and I have no idea why, rewriting with LLMs to make them blander but convey the same message is very handy here.

patchtopic··on Molly: An Improved Signal App
this is why molly.im was a lifesaver for me.. trying to move a family member from VIBER to SIGNAL and ran into the annoying roadblock of not being able to link an Android tablet to an Android phone like Viber can - but molly does it fine.
patchtopic··on Bitcoin's big secret: How cryptocurrency became law enforcement's secret weapon
this kind of blockchain analysis for the non-privacy oriented coins has been well known at least for a decade.. I don't see how it's a secret weapon except against the naive or uninformed
patchtopic··on Google Cloud suspended customer's account 3 times, for 3 different reasons
I had the same frustrating "we are suspending your account but we refuse to explain why, have a nice day" crap from Azure.. anyone who depends on mission critical stuff from these services needs their heads read.
patchtopic··on What Americans die from vs. what the news reports on
Next in this series: why does the news not report on the time Trump spends sleeping and on the the toilet with the same importance that he spends on political decisions
patchtopic··on Doom crash after 2.5 years of real-world runtime confirmed on real hardware
I haven't opened my DOOM software box, it's still in the shrinkwrap. I guess I can take it back and ask for a refund now?
patchtopic··on Denmark's Justice Minister calls encrypted messaging a false civil liberty
well said.
patchtopic··on Denmark's Justice Minister calls encrypted messaging a false civil liberty
A false civil liberty they reserved for themselves.
patchtopic··on Six months into tariffs, businesses have no idea how to price anything
something good for small hands, some kind of russian flute?
patchtopic··on Tesla insiders have sold more than 50% of their shares in the last year
since space joffrey only owns about 12% of the shares, the other shareholders should vote the clown out..
patchtopic··on FFmpeg 8.0
you know I cut a whole documentary in ffmpeg?
patchtopic··on Cops say criminals use a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS – I say that's freedom
GrapheneOS says

"European authoritarians and their enablers in the media are misrepresenting GrapheneOS and even Pixel phones as if they're something for criminals. GrapheneOS is opposed to the mass surveillance police state these people want to impose on everyone"

https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/114784469162979608

State employees in their official capacity making inaccurate claims to media about GrapheneOS to smear it as being for criminals and as the users as largely being criminals is a state sponsored attack on the GrapheneOS project.

patchtopic··on Australia Wants to See Your Papers Before You Press Play
As an Australian I am disgusted by this backwards, authoritarian, ant-privacy approach.
patchtopic··on White Noise – secure and private messenger
interesting but still very alpha. It doesn't have any desktop/PC clients yet, but I assume it will?
patchtopic··on The Email Startup Graveyard: Why 80%+ of Email Companies Fail
compared to other businesses this number seems OK :-)
patchtopic··on Microsoft's big lie: Your computer is fine, and you don't need to buy a new one
But in 2015:

Microsoft announced at its Ignite conference this week that Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows. Microsoft has no plans to let Windows 10 become stale. On the contrary, it plans to keep Windows evolving with regular improvements and updates.

patchtopic··on I convinced HP's board to buy Palm and watched them kill it
A long time ago I was given an Android, Apple, and MS-windows phone to evaluate as company phones for the company I worked for. the MS-windows phone crashed almost straight out of the box. and crashed again. and again.
patchtopic··on The lack of a good command line way to sort IPv6 addresses
The 85% of French and 75% of India adopting it don't care, they just use it :-)

patchtopic··on Mox – modern, secure, all-in-one email server
perhaps this is a FAQ but does this handle virtual domains like Postfix and Dovecot can?

i.e

person@fred.com and person@mary.com are completely separate domains/imap accounts on the same server?
