pbreit··on Self-hosted HTTP tunnels with SSH and Nginx
Instead of tunneling, why aren't there easier ways to develop and deploy to publicly accessible servers (for mere mortals)?
pbreit··on Self-hosted HTTP tunnels with SSH and Nginx
sish does get a mention: "Some only require a plain SSH client but rely on a specific SSH server, like sish.:
pbreit··on Bill Draper has died
Have we heard of any of those nonprofits? Have any of them made a dent in anything? Why are people so mesmerized by nonprofits?
pbreit··on Bill Draper has died
This take is ill-informed. He's just saying you can't get hung up on your previous investments, decisions, etc. Keep moving forward. A16Z folks are very human, terrific at what they do and good people.
pbreit··on Python Workers are now generally available
It always seemed so strange to me that "native" http clients were so lousy or many cases even non-existent considering that that's half of development these days.
pbreit··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
How do I get this more persistent?
pbreit··on Automattic's board forces CEO Matt Mullenweg into leave of absence
No reason given?
pbreit··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Copying others better and faster. I would say this is right up their alley.
pbreit··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Even a business spend provider: https://router.com
pbreit··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
The other thing is, aren't the models mostly indistinguishable at this point?
pbreit··on Claudette: Make Claude stop talking like a BuzzFeed article
Shouldn't this all be easily doable via (auto-)prompting? Surely I don't need to "install" anything?
pbreit··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
This seems like something xAi could reproduce in a weekend
pbreit··on Being ambitious and being a dad
Just remember, for 99.9% of us, work accomplishments are meaningless.
pbreit··on PostgreSQL for Everything
I dunno. I think the main takeaway here is that you can do 80-95% of your stuff in Postgres and eschew all the unnecessary, unproven stores.
pbreit··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
Agree. Couldn't care less. There are some neat aspects to "rare books" but overall quite insignificant.
pbreit··on Firefox 153.0 Beta
Has Firefox not had containers until now????
pbreit··on Spain Orders Blacklist of Palantir from Public and Private Companies
That's ridiculous. All he espouses is that all of this stuff is going to happen and so you might was well do it right (with Palantir).
pbreit··on Spain Orders Blacklist of Palantir from Public and Private Companies
This seems ridiculously short-sighted and backwards.
pbreit··on Launch HN: Drafted (YC P26) – Models for residential architecture
Bidet?
pbreit··on Launch HN: Drafted (YC P26) – Models for residential architecture
I try to avoid hating but that's pretty rough.
pbreit··on Launch HN: Drafted (YC P26) – Models for residential architecture
How much structural and geotechnical detail does an ADU need?
pbreit··on Nobody ever gets credit for fixing problems that never happened (2001) [pdf]
Since it's entirely possible (extremely likely?) the "problem" would never materialize, this is quite reasonable.
pbreit··on Spanish traders set the standard for GnuCash database design
Storing money as an integer is OK but I've never liked APIs that required financial amounts to be integers. Amounts always eventually need to be displayed to a human as a decimal.
pbreit··on Why Britain's fintech stars faded
Easy: non-competitive equity compensation.
pbreit··on Heat pump sales rise across Europe
“ A total of around 575,000 residential heat pump units were sold across 11 European countries from January to March 2026, up from 494,000 in the same period in 2025”

Not a big increase on a relatively small base. What is the takeaway here?

pbreit··on Talking to strangers at the gym
I don't go to the gym much but that is one place where I would be VERY careful trying to strike up a confirmation and heaven forbid tapping someone on the shoulder.
pbreit··on Kimi K2.6 just beat Claude, GPT-5.5, and Gemini in a coding challenge
All my co-workers say Claude blows away Gemini. Is it really that good? How can I do Kimi?
pbreit··on Meta tells staff it will cut 10% of jobs
"half the employees of Google or Apple; only a third of Microsoft"

That sounds like 2-10x too many. Think about what Google, Apple & Microsoft do compared to Meta.

pbreit··on Deezer says 44% of songs uploaded to its platform daily are AI-generated
If no one hears them, do they really exist?
pbreit··on Show HN: Plain – The full-stack Python framework designed for humans and agents
That would be good if the changes are to slim it down by 80%.
