pests··on Why is this fingerprinting script creating bioweapons?
I believe its a combination of ablate and obliterate.
pests··on Microsoft and others tell crypto platform not to tokenize their stocks
I would say this is slightly wrong. For one, they are up to 27 validating nodes. The limited nodes is to get their .2s settlement time and also to prevent frontrunning or MEV attacks, as they implement an actual CLOB. HyperLiquid is also non-custodial, you keep USDC in a self-owned wallet on the Arbitrum network. The funds do not move until your transaction on HyperLiquid settles.

> But those can't fit because the Zora evolved into the Rito and BoTW has both.

Mostly in jest, but isn't that a creationist argument we all usually dismiss? "Why are there still primates around if we evolved from them?"

pests··on OpenCode 2.0
DeepSeek does. The entire thing is composed on plugins, using a framework called Cordis. Everything is a plugin. All the tools, the models, plan mode, file system access, everything. You can change anything anywhere, even reconfiguring active plugins deep internally. Cordis provides an effect system so everything can be rewound on uninstall time. This is how people run local models or just other major models, just by writing a new plugin to talk to whatever instead of the deepseek api. The agent loop itself is a plugin and can be swapped out.

pests··on Recursive self-improvement through collective intelligence
That's basically how I use my AI assistant. It builds tools and other things I want, makes a widget for my web dashboard, and also a chat widget/skills to work with it. Then I can interact with my tools through the dashboard or just ask in chat to do things or show views.
pests··on Yes, and
> Are you going to do anything with that game engine? I'm sure there are thousands of others who've written a game engine with the tools. What are they being used for? Is it just to "try it out"? I see people producing a LOT of software. Sure, the code is good, but was it needed? Are people using it?

You can ask the same about hand written code too.

pests··on Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs
The word "enter" has now lost all meaning in my brain, but it does look a little weird on my keyboard. Never paid much attention in my 25+ years of computing.
pests··on Example.com just launched the biggest redesign in decades
HTTP is used by billions of people while SSH is not. It should be pretty apparent. Why do people answer my phone calls and texts but everyone is ignoring my smoke signals?
pests··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Deepseek plugins* all the way down. It should be easy to add support for this.

Using this interesting framework called Cordis I've recent discovered.

pests··on When did Google get so weird?
Even before AI you could search a phrase from a less than hour old HN thread and see it in the top 5 results already.

Google has been actively scanning the web within minutes for decades now, surely this isn't that shocking? Even sitemaps, which google invented, have a field for change frequency.

After growing up for decades in Michigan and seeing the surrounding Great Lakes regularly, the oceans were a bit disappointing. Besides the salt. I knew it was salty but I wasn't expecting pickle juice.

Do tell, cause I run the "ChatGPT" program on Windows to use both the normal Chat and Codex (side menu items). I think its a more recent change.

pests··on I think the military commissary's freezers were hacked
To try to guess at a plausible answer, any monitoring / remote management stemmed from wanting to keep an eye on temps over time. Freezers can go out of temp for only so long before its all bad.

Tada. It saves someone from making the rounds with a clipboard and writing down temps every X hours.

I agree its unneeded, just I can see the thought process.

pests··on Breaking Claude Code Opus 5 Auto Mode

pests··on Cores in space: The core memory module from a 1980 Spacelab computer
The current coincidence is used to select a specific bit / core. Except it selects the same bit in every bank.

Bytes or larger words are made by stacking multiple banks together (18 in the articles case) All 18 bits would be driven in parallel by the driver over the X/Y wires to produce a coherent 18 bit value at the same moment.

The inhibit bit was so you could select which of those 18 bits (in separate banks) would be switched back to a 1, not selecting which bit across the entire bank.

Yes, same with openclaw etc. Some might have plugins to integrate with graph or vector databases besides only markdown files.

pests··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
Technically yes, because Zelle is just the frontend, but banks can settle between themselves via ACH if they don't have another arrangement or a RTP (real time payment) setup.

To answer the original question, because Zelle is ran by a consortium of banks, they all trust each other enough to release funds immediately and settle up overnight if need be.

pests··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
New commenter here, and I understand your arguments you've made in this thread, but it's like asking what is the waste of a waterfall? The math you're doing would say add up how much energy could have been extracted and compare it to equivalent generation in coal or similar. The water, even spent on the locks, goes to the ocean anyways.
pests··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
I think that it was already iOS only, so making it free was just flipping a flag etc. I'm not sure how that helps his point tho.
pests··on iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud.com
It does, and I know a friend of a friend who uses them for Walmart accounts to bot pokemon drops. Those and office aliases.

> “why app slow” obviously doesn’t work because the task is underspecified

Definitely not true and like everyone else is saying, shows how people still underestimate these models.

I have been working on a simple vite + react app lately and commonly ask Gemini/Antigravity to just "improve speeds", "x is running slow, check it out" and have no complaints.
