petey283··on Git commands I run before reading any code
+1 Same.

petey283··on Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll
Not to mention the interest payments on the debt that will be due in Q1.
petey283··on Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll
Talk about swift and immediate feedback. There must have been calls from inside the house too.
petey283··on My macOS keyboard shortcuts
Please do! I would love a post on that topic
petey283··on Making the dislike count private across YouTube
This is exactly my experience and I also have a YouTube premium account. I use YouTube religiously and have my own system of improving the algorithm so that the vast majority of content recommended is something I might watch.

If I don't like a video, I hit dislike and will maybe even remove it from my watch history.

I suspect that most who are against this change are not heavy YouTube users.

petey283··on Online coding school Treehouse lays off most of its staff
My bootcamp experience built my confidence which helped during interviews.
petey283··on I Used to Write for Sports Illustrated. Now I Deliver Packages for Amazon (2018)
This section resonated with me too. I can learn a lot about how to have an honest yet positive appraisal of my circumstances from Austin.
petey283··on Justice at Spotify
But isn't this part of the negotiation process? Start with a higher demand and work your way to a more reasonable position.
petey283··on One Year Alone in Forest of Sweden Building a Log Cabin
This is so satisfying to watch!
petey283··on Hotwire: HTML over the Wire
And here's some additional followup. Minor speculation that maybe his location is what caused slowdown.

petey283··on YouTube-dl's repository has been restored
Pleasantly surprised here.
petey283··on YouTube-dl's repository has been restored
Great news!

petey283··on Apple, Hey, and the Path Forward
Looks like 1.0.3 has been updated to "In Review" status.

petey283··on A grandmaster who got Twitch hooked on chess
It was crazy watching that. Carlsen's play is out of this world.
petey283··on Apple rejects Hey for second time, threatens removal from App Store
Looks like Hey is complying with all Apple's requirements and yet Apple is still rent-seeking. Not a good look for Apple.
petey283··on Plywood: A New Cross-Platform Open Source C++ Framework
> Most open source C++ projects are libraries that are meant to be integrated into other applications. Plywood is the opposite of that: It gives you a workspace into which source code and libraries can be integrated. A single Plywood workspace can contain several applications – a webserver, a game engine, a command-line tool. Plywood simplifies the task of building and sharing code between them.

I think this works as a good overview.

petey283··on NPM Is Joining GitHub
I worry that this is too much consolidation.
petey283··on Disney blocks John Oliver’s new episode critical of India’s PM Modi
You're right.. I've often scoffed at claims that present deplatforming as an ineffective or even dangerous strategy. But seeing these several multi-nationals go along with "self-censorship" whenever a repressive government asks is quite worrying.
petey283··on A Graph of Related Subreddits
Great project.. and great implementation.
petey283··on Ask HN: Books you plan to read in 2020?
Ender's Shadow is a great series. It complements the original story so, so well.
petey283··on Soulver – Notepad, meet calculator
This. Excel as a notepad would be great. Don't know enough about windows desktop development to implement my own solution, but I'm surprised that nothing currently exists.
petey283··on Intention to fine Marriott more than £99M under GDPR for data breach
On first blush, I would think this would at the very least force companies to improve their security.
petey283··on Lessons learned: writing really long fiction
As an avid sci-fi reader this is providing so many answers to my recurring frustrations whenever books series don't get a sequel. I don't think I truly understood that there were important business and human capital constraints.
petey283··on Elizabeth Warren Proposes Breaking Up Tech Giants Like Amazon
This. There's great opportunity ahead and calls for the Dems to lead with anything other than bold policies don't make sense.

Running on strengthening healthcare was primary among many reasons for their success in the Midterms.

petey283··on Elizabeth Warren Proposes Breaking Up Tech Giants Like Amazon
This is great because it starts a conversation about monopoly power that's long been needed.

This I think is one of the understated values of primaries and presidential elections. Even if Warren is elected and unable to get legislation passed, she has moved this particular conversation forward.

petey283··on I'm going to work full-time on free software
Exactly this. And once you get into the 7.862 Trillion range you find that it's much more reasonable.
petey283··on Show HN: Sublime Merge – A Git client from the makers of Sublime Text
Native apps ftw.
petey283··on Show HN: Sublime Merge – A Git client from the makers of Sublime Text
Same. Product already feels great and I'm ready to use exclusively full time.
petey283··on Show HN: Sublime Merge – A Git client from the makers of Sublime Text
Already one of the best git clients out there. The snappy feel makes it a joy to go back in time and track the changes and understand more about the entire codebase.

To me, this is an underrated element required in understanding the lifespan of a codebase.
