petre··on Multiplayer tanks that demolish real buildings from OpenStreetMap
Come on. I just wrecked the revenue service's building. While it doesn't look like the actual thing, it was still fun. Thank you, game creators!

Actually steel¹ is quite capable, R5RS compliant, aiming for R7Rs and it's embedable like Lua. Probably easier to use in a rust project.

petre··on Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age
Dacia Spring is basically Dongfeng EX1, so it's a Chinese car.
petre··on Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age
We just got a rental Tiguan eHybrid. It's so big I can't park it anywhere without wasting my time, the high turning angle is annoying compared to my Suzuki, the controls are a hallmark of bad ergonomics and the driving experience is a let down even compared to a Toyota Yaris. I would never pay upwards from 36k euros for such an underwhelming car, when I could get a Corolla hatchback for 26k. The latter is boring, but it offers a seamless driving experience and okay controls.

Normally during revolutions, some other worse assholes fill the power void and sieze power. It happened with the 1917 revolution who gave us none other than Stalin. Or the French revolution, which triggered a series of wars and then we had Napoleon filled that power void and started some more wars.

The 1989 revolutions are somewhat different, because they were triggered by the colapse of the USSR, so to some extent a peaceful transfer of power happened. Except for Romania, Moldova and Ukraine who is now paying the price for refusing to become the other Belarus. The collapse of the USSR ultimately led to Putin the wars in Chechhnya, Georgia and Ukraine.

petre··on Nicolas Cage says he won't work with Amazon again over AI dispute
> such as extending a scene or modifying the environment around an actor

I see. So if they want to put a giant phallic object behind the actor, that's covered.

Not a fan some of Cage's acting (Con Air was terrible, Lord of War was good) but I admire him for doing this and being cool and open about it.

The Russians have had authorotanian governments since Ivan the Terrible, who in the sixteenth century established the foundations of the modern Russian state¹. So nobody there would get rid of it. It's the normal state of things.

petre··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
No, what does it matter if he has 89 or 86% approval? Obviously who cares if Russians can't hail a ride? They should've stayed home as Bohumil Hrabal used to say in Closely Observed Trains about those other invaders.
petre··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
86, 89 what's the difference? Putin is running a fascist elderly home at this point. Younger people in Russia won't be able to buy gas or hail a ride now.
petre··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
Well, tomorrow we will be hearing about the 4th DC being struck.
petre··on Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours
Wiping out the Iranian government will only strenghten the IRGC and other rabid anti US Iranian groups politically. As demonstrated by the recent US strikes that killed Ali Khamenei, wiped out senior Iranian leadership and that girs' school.
petre··on Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours
Stopping Russia is equivalent to stopping Germany and Japan in WW2. Not applicable. So the next thing is to hope it wears itself out, just like it did in Afghhanistan. And later maybe another dissolution, just like the USSR. But that would possibly also mean nukes getting left over in new jurisdictions.

petre··on Former German spy chief arrested for attempted treason
> Can someone please explain what's going on here?

Putin got'em addicted to cheap Russian gas and paid up anti nuclear NGOs who also got cash from big oil.

Also Berlin still has some Russian minority since the GDR. That includes anti Putin Russian diaspora or people that just needed a break from paranoia and brespredel.

petre··on Nearly 200 people under observation after Irkutsk lab worker dies from plague
There is regular soda-lime glass and there is borosilicate glass.
petre··on On social reality in China
I found reading the first chapter of Ai Weiwei's 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows quite depressing. It describes a woman who gave away or let her child die in order to take care of some more well off people's children, which I remember to be Ai's father or grandpa. Then goes on to describe what his dad went through during the Cultural Revolution. Needless to say, I stopped reading the book.
