phaemon··on Sir Clive Sinclair has died
Sure. You're a useless cunt and when you die it will massively improve the life of everyone you know.

Welcome to the truth my friend.

phaemon··on Is America Inc getting less dynamic, less global and more monopolistic?
You mean people like you? Or are you working there for minimum wage?
phaemon··on Founder of $90M cryptocurrency hedge fund sentenced to seven years in prison
No, the price was rising well before any of the "whales" came in. You're just writing a narrative that suits your existing preconceptions.
phaemon··on Pay Transparency Is Coming
Yes, that's true. I guess I don't oppose it because I don't care. But I certainly know many developers whore highly concerned about their pay.
phaemon··on Founder of $90M cryptocurrency hedge fund sentenced to seven years in prison
By learning what they are. It's not that difficult. A pyramid scheme of any sort requires new participants continually. Crypto currency does not.
phaemon··on Pay Transparency Is Coming
Everyone having information is called "universal education". It's not a bad thing.
phaemon··on Lunar Crater Radio Telescope on the Far-Side of the Moon (2020)
Actually, it wouldn't need to be that long. The circumference of the moon is 40k kilometres, so assuming the site was in the center of the far side (though there's no reason it needs to be), that would put it at ~10,000 km from sight of the earth.

That's shorter than some transatlantic cables. I reckon it would be doable.

Or a long cable...

phaemon··on The effects of remote work on collaboration among information workers
Would like to know this too.
phaemon··on We still believe in private offices (2015)
There isn't any for mine; it's included with the house.
phaemon··on Toyota to spend 1.5T yen on EV battery development
Vague bet. What does "worth nothing" mean? Obviously collectibles will be worth something and even crappy cars will have scrap value.
phaemon··on Toyota to spend 1.5T yen on EV battery development
Have you genuinely never seen people refer to, say, $10k to mean ten thousand dollars? It's very common.
phaemon··on Financial literacy is a passport to financial freedom
That's fair enough. I didn't grow up in an ideal environment, but I also did have enough encouragement to end up where I am today.
phaemon··on New Evidence Against the Standard Model of Cosmology
How do I know that two objects are either receding or approaching? Because it's obvious. Think about it yourself.

Edit: ah, wait, your theory says that approaching objects look the same as receding ones. I think you need to justify that.

phaemon··on Financial literacy is a passport to financial freedom
Don't criticize your parents for not knowing as much as you do. I'm sure they hoped that would be the case.
phaemon··on Financial literacy is a passport to financial freedom
Wow. Although there are elements I disagree with, that said is a very well argued and explained point.

I suspect there are few here that will read through it though. Might be better as a blog.

phaemon··on New Evidence Against the Standard Model of Cosmology
Galaxies are either approaching or receding from our perspective. How could they possibly be stuck in some "place"? Your theory makes no sense.
phaemon··on The fungal mind: on the evidence for mushroom intelligence
Well...
phaemon··on The fungal mind: on the evidence for mushroom intelligence
Carrots were naturally white. They were bred to be orange for reasons you can Google.
phaemon··on Why can an ad break the Windows 11 desktop and taskbar?
Indeed, not an insightful comment at all. Everyone knows that.
phaemon··on Rugby: Head impact study shows cognitive decline after just one season
That's completely wrong I'm afraid. In terms of popularity (number of fans) Rugby is about as popular as American Football, at around 9th most popular sport.

The top two are 1. Association Football (aka soccer), 2. Cricket

Boxing doesn't make the top 10.

phaemon··on French Appeal Court affirms decision that copyright claims on GPL are invalid
Ok, I didn't realize anyone would really think that only legal documents could be used in court. It seems an utterly bizarre idea to me.

Did you think that an eyewitness account of a murder would be inadmissible because it's not a legal document?

phaemon··on Alternative Milks
That's just nonsense. There is absolutely no need for UK cattle to be fed soya-based feeds and if finishing lots have recently started using them, it's for a minor percentage increase which might be financially worthwhile but certainly isn't a requirement.
phaemon··on French Appeal Court affirms decision that copyright claims on GPL are invalid
Yes, that is what it says. Not "cannot be used in court". Just that they consider the English version authoritative.

Are you trying to tell me you can't tell the difference between these statements?

phaemon··on Video game addiction: China imposes gaming curfew for minors
Well where droptablemain thinks you're being ridiculous, I would argue the opposite: that's what we already have. We call these state trained professionals "teachers" and pretend they're just educating the children, but I think lockdown has revealed just how many people are dependent on the child minding aspect of schools.
phaemon··on The Sunk Cost “Fallacy” Is Not a Fallacy
Sometimes it pays to be irrational.
phaemon··on High blood pressure cases double in 30 years
By "balanced electrolyte consumption" you mean chemicals such as sodium, right? I'll give you a moment to think about that...
phaemon··on It’s not Tourette’s but a new type of mass sociogenic illness
Now? You've clearly never heard of the 1518 Dance Plague: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_plague_of_1518
phaemon··on Thought-Terminating Cliché
That is literally the opposite of how scientific hypotheses start.

I'm guessing you're not a scientist.

phaemon··on Rain at the Summit of Greenland
Well, firstly you have a fence-post error: 2002-2012 is eleven data points. So, lets reverse your methodology. Let's look at 2002-2010 and then 2010-2020.

Now we see that in fact the trend is accelerating. I think that answers your question.
