phepranto··on Discord fined €800k for failing to comply with several obligations of the GDPR
Weirdly enough, Alt+Spacebar, then clicking close only closes the window (minimizing to the tray), but just hitting Alt+F4 kills the process.
phepranto··on Tell HN: Locked out of Gmail account even after right password, recovery email
How should the person on the phone verify your identity if not by your drivers license or similiar ID?
phepranto··on Reducing methane is the fastest strategy available to reduce warming
How does reducing emissions not reduce (future) warming? It doesn't revert warming, but that's not being stated here afaict.
phepranto··on I hate password rules
They might just truncate the password during login as well. I was able to login to my online banking using only the first five digits of my password not more than 3 years ago.. They fixed it in the meantime but I'm still worried.
phepranto··on Intuit to Acquire Mailchimp for $12B
If all my friends jumped off a bridge they must've had a really good reason to, so yes I might as well.

Same logic applies here. Just maybe, if everyone does it, we should consider it too.

phepranto··on SQLite is 35% Faster Than The Filesystem (2017)
At the end of the article it says:

"SQLite is much faster than direct writes to disk on Windows when anti-virus protection is turned on. Since anti-virus software is and should be on by default in Windows, that means that SQLite is generally much faster than direct disk writes on Windows. "

phepranto··on More sleep or more exercise: the best time trade-offs for children’s health
Then they're home at 4pm and get a whole 4 hours for homework, recreational activities and relaxing.
phepranto··on Daft Punk Break Up
I went to a festival in recent years with Justice closing saturday night and can absolutely attest to this.

phepranto··on Apple countersues Epic, seeks punitive damages
I find it hard to believe that all stores combined patch a single gigabyte in a week, let alone every store patching multiple gigabytes. The size of the stores and their patches are negligible compared to installing any modern game.
phepranto··on Why GPT-3 Matters
In case you didnt know, aidungeon.io uses GPT-3 in their "Dragon" model. It's only available for pro accounts though.

I think this might be the way to go forward regarding language models in games: Offer them through cloud computing for GaaS.

phepranto··on Who’s behind Wednesday’s epic Twitter hack?
Not 100% positive on this, but I believe the admin panel allowed to remove 2FA as well.
phepranto··on The promising results of Stockton’s basic income experiment
I realize there's no data on this, but do these localized experiments translate into actual UBI at all? I only skimmed the article but it seems to me that giving 125 people 500$/Month, which come from a donation to research UBI, has basically no relation to actual UBI.

They found that giving those 125 people an unconditional monthly allowance helps them survive and has a positive effect on their life.

They did not seem to research at all how to actually fund it, what kind of effect a higher tax to fund it would have, or what would happen to the government employees currently working in social welfare if they'd lose their job.

phepranto··on All People in Canada are the Same Age (1997)
That's the way induction works. Assume the statement is true for n Deduce that it then must be true for n+1 Prove it for n=1 Now it's proven for every n
phepranto··on Source code of Germany’s official covid-19 contact tracing app
The technical director gave a press conference and confirmed that they'll add reproducable builds in the near future.
