philjackson··on Reasons to Dislike AI Coding
> Except that the job was never to type code, it was to deliver valuable software. People who can still do that can still get paid by organisations that need that to be done.

It's still the case that fewer people are required so I'm not sure this argument holds up. In the UK at least, entry-level software engineer roles down roughly 27% year-on-year after gpt was launched according to one article I saw.

Can you elaborate on this with real-world examples you've experienced?

If anything, it's going to at least double its traffic this way when people click again assuming they hit back somehow.
philjackson··on Mozilla appoints new CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo
They need to build a great product as well as somehow fund the project. Seem like those credentials match the requirements.

philjackson··on Reshaped is now open source
This looks like a really solid library and a lot of code for free. Many thanks to Dmitry / the team.
philjackson··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
Great analogy. We've attempted to produce these systems and every time what emerges is software which makes easy things easy and hard things impossible.
philjackson··on Sequoia backs Zed
As an aside, I really like the Zed website. Easy to read and pleasant to look at.
philjackson··on Show HN: OWhisper – Ollama for realtime speech-to-text
Also had a quick play too. The TUI is garbled thanks to some stderr messages which can just be dev/null'd. I don't seem to be able to interact with the transcripts with the arrow or jk keys.

Overall though, it's fast and really impressive. Can't wait for it to progress.

I need to make an urgent call to my accountant.
philjackson··on Show HN: A Raycast-compatible launcher for Linux

Great docs and website!
philjackson··on Differential Growth Addon for Blender
I agree - one of those bits of software you can't believe is free. I've also done some pretty terrible modelling, even my doughnuts suck.
philjackson··on Replace Philips Hue Automation with Home Assistant's
Did you try going down the HA Docker route? Definitely not plug-and-play - there was tinkering - but no weird errors for me.
philjackson··on Replace Philips Hue Automation with Home Assistant's
Can you describe how? I have the IKEA bulbs throughout and it's difficult to imagine how they'd be any better.
philjackson··on Quandoom: A port of DOOM for a quantum computer
Quantum CGA will be mind-blowing.

There was a period of time where the Mozilla Suite had this design style. Not sure I liked it much, but the nostalgia is nice.
philjackson··on An NFC movie library for my kids
What a brilliant idea! Not everyone's motivation of course, but I'm sure this has valid business potential.
philjackson··on Figma Slides
No worries! Didn't mean to ask for free work, thought since you were trying out Figma Slides you might on the hunt for a new tool.
