pjdavis··on Google sued after man drove off collapsed bridge while following map directions
From the article:

> State troopers who found Paxton’s body in his overturned and partially submerged truck had said there were no barriers or warning signs along the washed-out roadway

pjdavis··on How corporations buy and food made with prison labor
Except in the case where the judges are getting kickbacks from the private prisons in exchange for harsh sentences.

pjdavis··on Show HN: Interactive Rubik's Cube with sub-puzzles for solution steps
Is it an official Rubik's one or some other brand? I've got about 15 of them (Mostly from QiYi and GAN) and all of them have the yellow/white opposite. Of course they're all made within the last 5 years so maybe it changed at some point.
pjdavis··on Google+ for iOS is out
I'm also running iOS5b3 and it crashes on just about everything. Stream, Pics, Circles, Profile.
pjdavis··on Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold
I believe the only thing that survived each remake is probably the strippers.
pjdavis··on A $4.8M model airport with computer controlled vehicles
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I have become unable to stop the plane while on the ground. What I'm going to have everybody do is form a queue at the emergency exits, and as I go down the tarmac two or three of you jump into the gate…"
pjdavis··on GFI apologizes for false alarm on Samsung keyloggers
My favorite part of the old article was

The findings are false-positive proof since I have used the tool that discovered it for six years now and I am yet to see it misidentify an item throughout the years.

pjdavis··on Steve Jobs' reality distortion takes its toll on truth
A slide will usually have a generalization of the point that the speaker is making, not a word for word rehash of everything he says.
pjdavis··on Ask Tom Preston-Werner, cofounder of GitHub, anything Today, Mon 18 Oct 2010.
How essential to your success do you feel the freemium model was?
pjdavis··on Rails Rumble Apps
I think they're having DNS problems right now.
pjdavis··on Twitter Co-Founders Offer Tips for Entrepreneurs
Small nit-pick, but Biz didn't actually create the Fail Whale.
pjdavis··on How two Pythonistas accidentally fell in love with Rails
Yes, like hulu or yellowpages.com
pjdavis··on How two Pythonistas accidentally fell in love with Rails
Really? I've been working with it for nearly 4 years now, and I haven't had any problems getting it to what I needed it to do. I wonder what problems that it wasn't "built for" have you had problems implementing?

Also, while scaling may be a non-trivial challenge, going to over ~100,000 page views a day (95% are between 8am - 6pm) was pretty easy, and very little fuss.

pjdavis··on Ask HN: Who uses Google Alerts and what for?
I have one setup for my name, cause I'm a narcissist and like to know when people are talking about me.

edit: misspelled narcissist.

pjdavis··on Ask HN: How did you find your company & job?
Oddly enough, responding to a newspaper ad.
pjdavis··on IPhone 4’s ‘Retina’ Display Claims Are False Marketing
I think "marketing puffery" is an apt description for this article.
pjdavis··on Cells. A massively multi-agent Python programming game.
Why stop at a ladder-based tournament system? It would be awesome if we could have all submissions put into a persistant world and go on until they all die out. Kind of like a mmorpg for AI robots.
pjdavis··on Mixpanel/WePay (YC S09) tech talk: PHP Inventor Rasmus Lerdorf talks about PHP
He has come to apologize.
pjdavis··on Ask HN: Where do you live?
From what I've seen, if it doesn't say Microsoft on it, the contractors around here won't touch it.

We do have Digium though ;)

pjdavis··on Ask HN: Where do you live?
Huntsville, Alabama
pjdavis··on [dead]
That, honestly, is a great idea. I shall add that in the next few hours or so. Thanks.

A pool of lava? Man, his Mom is going to be pissed we ruined her basement floor.
pjdavis··on Social Networking's "Naked" Truth
FTA: Yahoo's Carol Bartz doesn't have any interest in Facebook or Twitter either. No money in it, and Yahoo's building its own communities without having to spend huge premiums on unproven, unprofitable assets.

Such as Flickr, or Del.icio.us?

pjdavis··on Regular Expression Generator
JESUS CHRIST! That's more confusing than trying to figure out the regex on your own.
pjdavis··on [dead]
I don't think i really understand the article. Why is he blasting the lady for helping out at a Soup Kitchen and having a nervous habit? I don't see how her saying, "Y'all hungry tonight?" would be any different than say, playing with her hair or biting her nails. She was obviously out of her element while trying to help out. Instead of ranting about her on the intertubes, why not try to help her feel more comfortable? That way she may feel more inclined to help out again.
pjdavis··on Ask HN: what unwanted domain names are you sitting on?
I bought alcoholicsunanimo.us awhile back as an idea for a service to prevent drinking problems. You know you have a drinking problem if you drink alone, so you can send a txt to alcoholicsunanimo.us and let everyone know you want to drink, and need someone to drink with, and voilà! drinking problem solved.
