pk97··on Scoring Show HN submissions for AI design patterns
I am the author of lighthouse-mcp. Plugging in a11y-mcp https://github.com/priyankark/a11y-mcp specifically for a11y and there are a few other variants of it from other authors as well.

I use these tools myself and they just build upon the awesome work from the open source community

pk97··on Sikkim and the Himalayan Chess Game (2016)
As someone who has been to Sikkim and spoken with people there, I can say they are proud and happy to be Indians. In fact, they receive several concessions from the Indian state for being part of the Union - for example, they are exempt from income tax. While a referendum may not always be the best measure of sentiment, the absence of insurgency in Sikkim (unlike in some other regions in India) suggests that people are broadly content with being part of India.
pk97··on Ask HN: Cursor or Windsurf?
the age of swearing allegiance to a particular IDE/AI tool is over. I keep switching between Cursor and GH Copilot and for the most part they are very similar offerings. Then there's v0, Claude (for its Artifacts feature) and Cline which I use quite regularly for different requirements.

I agree with what you have said. It's what you mentioned at the end about people judging based on metrics - it should be up to people to judge for themselves, not the platform! The platform should present data, not try to sway opinions. Besides the message itself is so hand wavy if I am using the phrase correctly, what is Google trying to convey through the message? If something is a legit scam, they should either not be publishing such apps or be testing and removing them.

I am increasingly convinced they are trying to direct traffic to apps that use their Ads network under the guise of such vaguely-about-security messages.

Thanks for sharing. Another interesting part is how similar the word "dúvida" is to Hindi's word for "doubt": "Duvidha" which itself is derived from Sanskrit!
pk97··on “Fewer Users” Warning Hurting Specialized and New Apps
I am obviously a very small player doing things as a hobby, I don't matter to Google. But what I am pointing out is that they already take a cut of whatever few dollars I earn (beyond the initial $25 I paid years ago just to get on the play store). If you see the thread, the OP asked their customer support and they said: "Especially, since the response from customer service seems to suggest that the best way to get it removed is to run Google AdWords (which I am already running, btw)"

If the angle here is running ads and if they are already taking a cut, why are they doing this? If the angle is security, why not test the apps and have them removed! And in either case, why keep the developer in the dark? And why is there no way for small time insignificant devs like me to know how to get rid of the banner!

pk97··on “Fewer Users” Warning Hurting Specialized and New Apps
exactly. Imagine the audacity of this company. I have a paid app and they are already charging me a percentage of the revenue. And behind my back they have begun running this banner.
pk97··on “Fewer Users” Warning Hurting Specialized and New Apps
I noticed this banner on one of my own apps while installing it for my mom on a new phone. The banner said "This app has fewer users than others...", almost as if they are discouraging users from installing it without even informing me. I looked it up online and it seems like many people have begun seeing this. I am linking a thread. If anyone from Google is reading this, such opaque policies are not appreciated!
pk97··on Apple App Store guidelines remove ban on encouraging external payments in US
This should be applicable across the world, not just US.
pk97··on AI suggestions make writing more generic, Western
exactly, it stands for "I have a question" :) It stems from the school/coaching system where you are encouraged to ask questions as you figure out say a problem set in dedicated "doubt clearing" sessions with your teachers/instructors. That carries over to the workplace where you are more likely to hear this phrase when someone has a question in a technical discussion or similar, from my observations.
pk97··on AI suggestions make writing more generic, Western
As an Indian, I am sad that the world will lose out on short to-the-point words/phrases such as "please do the needful", "i have a doubt", "prepone" and many others :( We are like this only.
pk97··on Manga Guide To Databases (2004) [pdf]
I love this series. I read them in college, including the Manga guide to calculus among others.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Just in case someone finds this - I had to rename and move the project to aircodum.com as an entity called 'codeair.in' tried to harass me, claiming they had a TradeMark (they really didnot) and I wanted to avoid drama.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
I open sourced the extension code.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Thank you, this is a TIL!!
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
thank you! I'll release the code for the VSC Extension soon.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Thank you so much for pointing these out! Yes, it's react native. And thanks to your comment, I am also working on getting my account setup on open vsx
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
sorry if my answer came off the wrong way, I just meant, yes I'll be releasing the source code for the VS Code extension.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
I love HN for these moments - when you learn things that are orthogonal to the original post.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Thank you for checking on things, I am working on open sourcing the extension part of the project which should be available soon!
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Thank you, I am working on it!
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
Thanks purple-leafy, I do share some similar concerns. There was only a recent case where a popular open source project was cloned and turned into a startup.

I am offering the Android app and extension for free. I'll be open sourcing the extension soon. I am hesitant to open source the Android app until I also get the iOS version out.

I am curious to hear more. Everything happens over local network, so unless the network is compromised, it shouldn't cause too much trouble? I am advising users against using this over something like airport wifi or something.
pk97··on Show HN: CodeAir – Control VS Code from Your Phone
anydesk etc. are good, but this app does a little more than monitoring. It's like a cross between anydesk use case and airdrop (like you can send files and images etc to your wokspace). And everything happens over your local network.

hehe, yeah, sometimes you should and sometimes you end up being a character like in the xkcd comic.
pk97··on Show HN: A multi-modal and AI first Knowledge Management System
Thank you Juan for the positive encouragement! I didn't know about "Mom Test" until I started putting AnyScribe out there and this is the third time I am getting the reco! I better read it!

Here's my latest update on AnyScribe by the way! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzSZg9lir9A

pk97··on Chat-first mode with embedded mind-maps in a multi-modal notes/PKMS app [video]
TL;DR: Hi everyone, I am a solo-dev working on an early stage AI first Knowledge Management System called anyscribe.io (as a side-project currently). I had posted earlier here and got some great feedback. I really love this community!

I am sharing a new early stage exploration I am doing. (I request you to 2x the speed on the video to save your time). I look forward to hearing more feedback and thank you sincerely for the time! I have an early access waitlist at anyscribe.io

Video Summary: With anyscribe.io, alongside a GUI based system, you can use a chat-first approach to store and interact with your knowledge base! Meet Jeeves, your friendly assistant.

Share your videos, audio, whiteboard scribbles and text notes with Jeeves and and let it organise it all automatically for you. You can chat with Jeeves and glean insights from everything you've ever dumped, with chat also linking back to your info via interactive blocks. The interactive blocks can further help you visualise information in many forms (text to diagrams, whiteboard scribbles to diagrams, charts, presentations and more) .

You can also visualise all your info related to a particular topic using an embedded and interactive Mind-Map that can help you brain-storm better.

Thank you so much Juan, your comment made my day!

I'll be really honest - I am still trying to figure out just the right UX. In its current form, many users are probably not able to get what this is all about. I have been unable to get feedback directly, but this is just my hunch.

There are a few other challenges such as comparisons to Notion etc. But those will always be there.

Thank you so much for trying out and the feedback! I just made the landing page responsive. It was a lack of foresight on my part.
