plehoux··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2026)
Missive | Senior Backend Developer | REMOTE (Eastern americas to Central central Europe) | Full-time

Missive brings inbox collaboration to teams that run on email.

This isn’t your typical SaaS; it’s a full-fledged app users live in all day. We integrate with dozens of APIs and servers, process 10M+ emails, 100M+ requests per day serving thousands of users who collaborate in real-time. If you’re excited by data at large scale, complex edge cases and third parties that always find new ways to fail, this is for you.

Missive started over a decade ago. It is mature, still 100% founder-owned and highly profitable. We’re in it for the long run; a small, dedicated team building a product customers genuinely love.

We keep our stack simple and that doesn’t mean boring. The backend is a Rails monolith, Postgres, plus a few tiny services in Ruby, Node or Bun.

Warning, we are hiring remotely, but Eastern americas to central Europe timezones only.

I love this, congratulations on the clever design and concept.
plehoux··on Replacing a $3000/mo Heroku bill with a $55/mo server
Congrats Greg & Antoine! disco.cloud is really needed, I hope you guys get the visibility you deserve and some momentum from the community!
plehoux··on AI Horseless Carriages
This is our exact approach at Missive. You 100% control system prompts. Although, it's more powerful... it does take more time to setup and get right.

plehoux··on A Decade of Lazy Marketing to $500k MRR
Look we were lazy on the marketing side, not on the product side. :)
plehoux··on Proton Mail gets a desktop app for encrypted email and calendar
CEO at Missive and proud developer of an electron based email client, I would love for you to try it and judge it's speed. It might change your opinion.
plehoux··on Entrepreneurs who regret starting businesses
What a depressing take.

Starting young (at 20 years old or earlier) gives you over a decade to explore and discover your entrepreneurial path with low risk. Stop making excuse.

plehoux··on Sam Altman calls Google a lethargic search monopoly
I think Google is fine. Will win this in the end.

But I was curious about DuckDuckGo and Gabriel's take on this, https://twitter.com/yegg... not a word.

AI is a scale game, how can they offer this without blowing all their revenues to MS?

plehoux··on Remote startups will win the war for top talent
I'm in the rare camp of those believing the employees will crave back the office at some point.

Maybe not in the crazy expensive cities with long commutes like LA and SF, but everywhere, yes.

plehoux··on Shopify Store more predatory than the App Store with its developer cut
I post this thread on HN. I honestly can't understand why they would deprecate the Unpublished App option. Was a win win for everyone. Using their Billing API makes sense when you building a business on top of theirs... but it's not our case.

Any other people affected by this here?

plehoux··on We need a middle class for startups
> We Need a Middle Class for Startups

You mean a bourgeoisie?

plehoux··on SpaceX avoided a Russian jamming attack in Ukraine
If a private corporation releasing an update to its code base to allow its own service to keep working brings us into WWIII... the root cause of the WWIII is definitely not the code update.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
The time requires to get the subsidies and the contortion you make to be in the boundaries of the program have a cost.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
I could add them, never used them too.

Existing customers > New customers. Wrote about this there: https://missiveapp.com/blog/on-being-a-tiny-team
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
I wrote the article and I feel you are right, I should not have put it there... I just wanted to highlight we were frugal.

Merci Alain!

plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
Lol, I will add it to the list.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
Accelerating growth is definitely on our radar. We took a different road up to this point, but I expect our future to be more similar to a regular tech business now that we're set on solid ground.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
Main one was our ability not to be distracted. Plus, setting up ourselves for a long-distance run from day one.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
This is list is not a list of thing not to do, simply some popular things we did not do. I'm absolutely not saying type-checking is bad.
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
Before Missive, we created ConferenceBadge.com, which we ran in parallel until last autumn, when we passed management to a new team.

At the moment we are three (co-founders) + a part-time dev doing integrations.

Do Yoga. I have destroyed my body with the combination of working on chair 10 hours day, and then doing hard sports (Rugby, Ice Canoe, Running).
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
It's nice, but keep in mind it's a 7 years long journey. :)
plehoux··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
Co-founder here, I'm sure there are many things I forgot to include in this list, still, a nice summary of the many things we haven't done.

Were we successful because or despite of all of these did-nots?

There are presumably many things there that would have made us more successful. And obviously many things we might do soon.

The takeaway? Don't stress over all the things you are not doing but focus on the few you are doing right.
