pluc··on SS United States to be sunk as largest artificial reef
You should read up on the 'saxon' part of 'anglo-saxon'

spoiler: saxony is in germany

pluc··on I've used WordPress for 20 years, and I've stopped recommending it
Good analogy for AI.
pluc··on US President says he will ban the term 'artificial intelligence'
Please please please call it American Intelligence so we can all make fun of it and you when it breaks
pluc··on Anthropic trained Claude on illegally obtained Stanford professors' books
Didn't it train Claude on illegally obtained everything?
pluc··on AI is ruining haunted houses
c'mon oli you can't really think that AI usage is reflected as customer savings or quality improvement for end users
pluc··on AI is ruining haunted houses
AI hasn't ruined anything, it has merely enabled people to ruin things, and everyone is queuing up. We could decide not to create low-quality, low-effort things that jeopardize entire sectors for the sake of saving a few hours/bucks, but nah.
pluc··on I will no longer upload to NEW
If you could explain what you're doing why would you use LLMs to do it in the fist place? For speed over control? Explaining means you're effectively able to do the modification yourself, and I'm fairly certain that's a low percentage of all AI contributions.
pluc··on The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI
The thing is it's faster to get 10 wrong answers that will lead to the right one than to spend time getting the right one out first.
pluc··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
The problem is where this is going. We've gone from thousands of researchers to one company. I don't care how much better the results are, it is a terrible idea to centralize knowledge evolution.
pluc··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
> Academics are paid tiny sums at post doc and professor levels. Oai comes along paying millions to these people and giving them the tools and support to actually solve problems.

I mean if I was one of them I'd be super pissed that a piece of silicon got more funding than I did and of course it's gonna have better results. I can't steal my peers' research but AI can.

pluc··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
> From past incidences it's already known that their model is very likely trained on input gathered from scientists which use OpenAI as a tool for their research. Suddenly the research community is in a race with the provider of its tool, and can hope for the grace of being selected to judge the output and have an honorable mention in the press-release.

This is gonna happen everywhere AI is in use, simply because they can. The opposite can also happen. Anthropic can decide that you can't use its software for online gambling, whether it's playing it or creating it. It can do that with literally anything, and everyone is asking them to please centralize development decision-making. It's nuts.

pluc··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
The last 12 years were largely the same, the last 3 were completely new.

Companies used to have elaborate processes for quality, reliability and all that and it flew out the window on day 2 of LLMs. So of course you'll find people who no longer are productive because the context is now being created for machines, not for humans.

pluc··on Markdown Is the New Executable: Attackers Drop Agent Instructions into Downloads
if you can be exploited with a text file you deserve to be exploited
pluc··on What goes into making an animated film?
The Knights of New are recruiting
pluc··on Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale
That feels so weird. Isn't the whole premisce of these things "this is a game where each block must be placed with purpose", and so using anything automated literally takes out most of that sentence and it just becomes "this is a game". I don't get the appeal or the expectation of triumph.
pluc··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
House arrest was a great idea before the internet. We call it "Netflix sentence" here.
pluc··on What goes into making an animated film?
We had an animator do an AMA a few days ago that didn't quite catch on:

It's ok the US doesn't protest unless your last name is royalty
pluc··on Ask HN: What is the main bottleneck facing Agentic AI today?
traffic is easy to generate; trustworthy outcomes are hard to operationalize
pluc··on We should be more ambitious with the software we build
We used to be limited by imagination, now we are limited by AI

pluc··on Samsung TV privacy issues
No I mean being responsible for the implementation and continued good functioning of something Kevin was responsible for before he quit. So uh self-hosting in a corporate context sure
pluc··on Root shell on Samsung TV
How do you correlate owning an LLM implementation and "admin"?
pluc··on Root shell on Samsung TV
Until Kevin quits and you need to modify his work
pluc··on Is anybody still coding in PHP?
I would if I could find anyone willing to pay me for it.
