pokstad··on Anduril BlueChip
What makes you think non-military tech doesn’t have backdoors?
pokstad··on Anduril Partners with Qualcomm to Build Laptops on US Soil
You know they call Intel? They call it an “arms dealer” because they want their chips to be everywhere. Qualcomm wants the same.
pokstad··on US inequality is getting worse in ways you might not expect
That’s not true. Billionaires have most of their net worth tied up in investments. Those investments fund companies that employ working people. They expand the economy and create more opportunity. Mark Zuckerberg famously declined to play the collusion game with Steve Jobs and ended up starting the trend of ultra high salaries in tech.
pokstad··on No signs of AI payoff outside the tech sector
> AI does not understand accountability, trust, culture, unwritten rules, ethical trade-offs or fairness, all of which shape reputational risk and ultimately drive revenue growth and profit margins.

This reminds me of the book The Redemption of Time. An alien society incapable of lying has no other way to understand deception than to study an actual human mind. The different ways that we are capable of thinking can be so hard to capture in an artificial system.

pokstad··on Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab
At the same time, more people are getting news from independent sources on social media and self publishing platforms. I can’t remember the last time I watched cable news.
pokstad··on Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab
This is an important point. You have a giant conglomerate with a constant growth of new conflicts for their customers.
pokstad··on Apple Music 404 Not Found
You can if you long press the link and then choose to open in new tab.
pokstad··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
Because the AI models are not that capable. They have breadth, but they require a lot of direction to accomplish anything more than a simple PR. We are far from AGI.
pokstad··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
How much debt? From what?
pokstad··on The No Kings Takedown Is Why You Shouldn't Rent Your Megaphone from Zuck
I don’t buy that. The old way still exists, it’s just way less convenient. It reminds me of punk rock bands that self published and followed the DIY approach versus bands that sold out the record label approach. It’s hard to DIY but you can do it if you really want to.
pokstad··on The No Kings Takedown Is Why You Shouldn't Rent Your Megaphone from Zuck
Then organize the old fashion way people did before social media was a thing. Otherwise, accept the convenience of social media has strings attached.
pokstad··on How the Claude Code team does code review
It’s all marketing nonsense. Along with the “AI is dangerous” and “we’re all going to lose our jobs” messaging they do, it’s just to sell the services.
pokstad··on How the Claude Code team does code review
Using agents for a first pass is a good way to speed up the review cycle. This way contributors can get near immediate feedback before a human needs to weigh in. This doesn’t replace the human review, but augments it. Each time your agent misses something, update your code review guidelines.

They need to add tamagotchi pets to the TUI so you stay awake while approving commands.
pokstad··on Apple HomeView
Wish this came with MagSafe so my toddler doesn’t rip this off our island.
pokstad··on X Is Bad, Though
This. Twitter was always a dumpster fire. The people who were part of the old dumpster fire are just mad that it’s someone else’s dumpster fire now.
pokstad··on Ask HN: Why aren't Americans rising up against tipping?
Covid workers really made many Americans feel guilty about tipping more and it never reset.
pokstad··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Not true. Meta’s target demographic aren’t billionaires. They are targeting a wide spectrum of normal people.
pokstad··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
I hate these glasses, but why do you need to ban them? Meta operates at scale, so it will only stay in this business if a considerable number of people buy this. Vote with your money. There are legitimate uses for camera glasses (journalism, action sports, etc.).
pokstad··on StarCraft returns in 2030 as an open-world shooter
Meanwhile, Nintendo with a tiny fraction of MS market cap is absolutely killing it with their legacy IP.

Sony LinkBuds Fit
pokstad··on OpenLogi
Thank you for this. I built a similar open tool for generic mouse customization on macOS (https://github.com/pokstad/mousechords), but I also needed an open Bolt receiver configuration manager.
pokstad··on We eliminated 1,400 CVEs in NanoClaw's container images
I was intrigued by nano claws more “secure” marketing, but I couldn’t believe how loose and vibe coded the installation and set up process was. My god it’s full of prompts.
pokstad··on Bike Bureau: Report Bike Lane Obstructions
Bicycle rights!
pokstad··on Stinkpot: SQLite-backed shell history
Great name
pokstad··on Amazon without the knockoffs
Isn’t the whole point of a brand to be recognizable? If customers couldn’t make this association from the start, what value does this provide?
pokstad··on Zuckerberg says AI agent development going slower than expected
That's assuming that LLMs aren't approaching some asymptote that doesn't cross over to AGI.
pokstad··on David Beazley – Programming Courses
I kept coming back to his course listing to find some that were on site, but they were all online. I wanted to take my current team to the same onsite experience I had with Dave over 15 years ago. Classes taught in person are so much better.
pokstad··on A Farmer Arrested for Going 5 Seconds over His Time Limit at Data Center Meeting
You’re posting on a website hosted in a data center. Lack of self awareness.
pokstad··on What we call "age verification" is actually mass surveillance
Exactly. The same way that selling alcohol doesn’t require a paper trail of every beer I’ve bought.
