precision1k··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
No, they're not. The data center buildout in Loudoun County has not stopped. They're continuing to build them out. They're getting bigger and more pervasive everywhere. It is my intention to eventually move out of the county because they're an eyesore and they've swallowed up just about every bit of available land here. The point I was making to the original poster is that datacenters are not "transitively racist". They are built in both wealthy and poor areas.

You missed my point. I work in the tech industry. I hate the data centers. Everyone I know who lives around here also (mostly) hates the data centers. Everyone here also makes 6 figures or more. The point I'm making is that data centers are not "transitively racist". They build them in wealthy areas as well as poor areas.
precision1k··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
I've developed a habit of adding into my prompts "please keep your response concise and succinct" or "I'm trying to cram, please only provide the minimum level of technical detail necessary to understand this topic"

I find it helps immensely but it'd be nice if I didn't have to do that.

precision1k··on An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry
I see mixed emotions here. I understand both. On one hand it's exciting and fascinating. On the other it's concerning. One concern I haven't seen mentioned is the possibility that, as these models become larger and more powerful, their capability to solve frontier math problems will also grow. Does there become a point where humans are no longer the driver of innovation and research in this world, and instead are relegated to become stewards of the AI models whose purpose is to push the boundaries of mathematics, theoretical physics and other academic disciplines?
precision1k··on Post-mortem for last week's incident at Kagi
Reminds me of a time I was running a proof-of-concept for a new networking tool at a customer site, and about two minutes after we got it running their entire network went down. We were in a sandboxed area so there was no way our product could of caused a network wide outage, but in my head I'm thinking: "there's no way, right. . . .RIGHT?!?!".
