preommr··on Images 2.6
Feels like ai image generation has plateaud.

Coding related have had massive step-up improvements over time.

The same cannot be said for image generation. If anything, I swear it's gone backwards.

It peaked with very early midjourney (like 2022), maybe follow ups with stable diffusion, and then with some of the nano banana models for actual editing. But overall, very lackluster in comparison to other areas.

preommr··on We're training a Figma-fluent editing model
> You've misunderstood the bitter lesson if you think it applies here.

That's fair because I am stretching it.

I think there's AI companies that understand and scale AI. Then there's the rest that are doing a modern version of writing domain specific knowledge using skills, and maybe a large collection of their own data.

Maybe these focused models outperform in their own niche similar to how hand-written rules outperformed in their own niches. But long-term, they get outpaced quickly by generalized approaches.

preommr··on We're Training a Figma-Fluent Editing Model
Bitter lesson learned in 3... 2..

I know Dylan Field recently posted they made the Llama's 70B model do amazing things but the AI training field is an absolute snake pit.

But then again they have money to burn ig.

preommr··on Intel stock collapse worsens as $3.5T chip rout spreads
> Intel, like Boeing cannot fail.

Failure here is getting restructured and people losing money in the stock market, which I guess is so detached from the actual companies and reality that it might as well be a polymarket bet (I mean overall stock market and not intel specifically).

preommr··on Scattered thoughts on how doing math feels these days
Reading comments like this is so depressing because it was extremely obvious that better results were a matter of time/hardware. It evokes the seem feeling as that trump quote about "who knew healthcare could be so complicated".
preommr··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
We essentially need a human interface for llm-based projects

Some simple rules that would work better:

- Projects should have someone that understands the overall project at a systems level

- If you link to a github, or code project, it can't be ai-written, it has to be a clear README, maybe with some code examples. But, it can call the other project that has AI generated stuff.

preommr··on Cerebras Deploys Trillion-Parameter AI Models
> GPT OSS 120b

It's extremely frustrating that these fast models are very old at this point. Chat jimmy launched in february, and nothing has come of it, not even GA let alone improvements with intelligence.

AI is currently moving so fast, that might as well be a lifetime.

We get SOTA from anthropic/openai every few weeks on models that seem to focus on one useful thing (e.g. opus) and then 5 useless things like booking restuarants. We're ignoring really useful applications for some reason.

It took jev to shake things up. I remember seeing reactions that were basically "people want this? the big labs probably have some version of this lying around"... and it's like yea, maybe these labs need to fix their priorities a little bit.

preommr··on Sam Altman: 'I No Longer Think We're Gonna Be Able to Just Patch All the Bugs'
Not even the singularity can fix php.

But all jokes aside, we're entering a new era where there's a paradox of pro-AI people going AI is really good, but not that good... when it kind of is that good.

We'll probably have ai monitors as a service, but the bulk of the safety should come from AI doing better job of reviewing tricky bugs since humans refuse to spend effort on writing more formal specifications.

preommr··on Rust Style Guide
Google has lost a lot of it's sheen for me. It's not really the 2010s anymore where their brand really used to mean something as a step above all the other tech companies.

Nowadays, I care about their recommendations as much as the ones from microsoft, or ibm.

Still big companies, lots of smart people, but nothing above norm.

preommr··on T3 Code now synced between GitHub and GitCafe
but... you... huh?

Then why are you bringing it up like it's something impressive???

preommr··on T3 Code now synced between GitHub and GitCafe
What does this even mean?

There are other git projects hosted on multiple platforms. Pretty sure linux kernel is hosted in more places than github, and kept in sync because it's based on git.

What research did you base this on?

preommr··on Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust
so this is software now?

youtuber vibe codes a transpiler says they're not going to bother maintaining it - but big company like cloudflare takes it seriously enough to absorbe into their own official services.

What is happening?

What is even software dev anymore?

What didnt the labs or cloudflare do this themselves, I mean they did, but then if it's all vibe coded, why do they need someone else's vibe coded stuff?

How is any of this serious?

Why are the comments pointing out there were warning signs early on being downvoted/flagged?

I looked at the linked comments, and they seem valid. I mean I dont want to go full tinfoil hat here, but what's the deal? Some people just really like opencode or something?

> It's not any more complicated than that.

It is more complicated than that when the valuations and business plans are contingent on those companies AI having complete dominance at every level.

If companies only use frontier models for occasional difficult tasks, not only does that affect volume, it basically elminates stickiness and incentivizes companies to instead of using their products continuosly, find ways to move from the expensive stuff to the cheaper stuff.

preommr··on C++26 Contracts: Introduction to Preconditions and Postconditions
I've spent years avoiding lisp, I am not about to break that streak now.

All jokes aside, I genuinely think that non-algol syntax is a non-starter. We're too far along now, that it's easier for these features to come to java/rust/typescript/cpp than it is to switch completely to academic langs that have terrible tooling support.

preommr··on C++26 Contracts: Introduction to Preconditions and Postconditions
I am very bullish on constraints based programming like this.

The main problem is code organization and syntax. Tacking stuff like this onto fuction declarations is too basic.

Ideally, I think we need better constructs, e.g. dettached constraints like to the function declaration. You can define constraints separately, in the same namespace or w/e, add notes, comments, etc. and the function declaration can be used with intellisense to jump to the constraint. You could even tag the defintions.

In modern AI-based workflows, the agent can pull up an explanation on the function, and point directly to the constraints, with strong confidence esp. if it's got explicit metadata.

preommr··on Anthropic conjures threat that doesn't exist yet to stoke fears of AI apocalypse

There's going to be an ugly phase where everybody FOMOs into thinking they need to do the same, only to realize that they're not Anthropic/Google/etc.

preommr··on Vibecoding Photoshop: Time and pressure
> The same applies to software: you'll describe a problem and a network of agents will write a solution faster than you can Google it, download it, install it, and start using it. It'll work with your accessibility requirements out of the box; it's UI will be in your language; the data will be stored where ever you like; and so on.

This exists now.

You can have gemini AI - the that's built into google search - just make little applets. I just made one for a color picker, and generating palettes, including one that applies aces tone mapping. It showed made little adjsutable sliders and everything.

For a while, chatgpt web didnt count against usage, and you could use sol, it was isnane, you could upload a screenshot and just ask it to build out a little editor with threejs, and whatever else.

There's grok bot, dots, and other 'bots' that are just doing independent actions in the background. That can do digital actions like organize your documents, send emails for rebates, etc.

If you accept the shame, you can literally have bite sized story telling that are like mini soap operas, completely cheesy, predictable plots but that are very good guilty pleasures.

preommr··on Vibecoding Photoshop: Time and pressure
Vibecoded photoshop will never work.

If you're a casual user, just use AI directly - upload image and tell model to remove background, or make it cinematic, etc.

If you're a professional, you'll want the best.

preommr··on We're going to need default hard budget caps on pretty much everything
Google Cloud is also the scariest because of how much damage it can do and how bad their payment system can be.

I recently loaded up on prepaid api credits for gemini and it somehow triggered some billing shenanigans in my linked accounts where it said I had a negative balance (from the credits), and they were going to discontinue my services. I had to reset some settings to sort it out, mainly using their chat ai and mine (because theirs gave me right status info, but wrong conclusions).

It's pretty messy across like aistudio.google.com, and their typical console, and google workspace business account. I'd be so fucked if they froze my account, I'd rather just pay openrouter to access credits in the future.

> show costs are piling up for these AI companies

OpenAI cancelling the $200/20x and then introducing the $500/25x was basically the canary in the coal mine.

I am looking forward to the 2026 numbers from Anthropic in preperation for their IPO, because that's where the really big numbers are going to be.
