prologic··on R/opensource bans AI-made and AI-focused projects and non-English speakers
What do you define as "AI Slop"?
prologic··on R/opensource bans AI-made and AI-focused projects and non-English speakers
It's a good question. If by "AI Slop" you mean, you ask ChatGPt to translate something from your native tongue to English so you can participate in a Reddit forum and the result is, probably correct, but a lot of "unwanted test you didn't ask for"?

What if it were you or me (I'm a native English speaker). Why if the tables were turned the other way around? I'm not even sure how I'd honestly be able to communicate with a person say from France, as I know a lick of French really, so I'd be reaching for some kind of translator, anything really. How do I avoid the wrath of those that would ben me over "AI Slop"?!

prologic··on Markojs – declarative, HTML-based language that makes building web apps fun
What's so bad about HTML anyway?

Marko looks like a mix of at least 3 languages. No thanks!

prologic··on R/opensource bans AI-made and AI-focused projects and non-English speakers
Don't you think it's pretty discriminatory to outright ban non-English speakers, even if said person(s) use AI to help translate their "ideas"?
prologic··on R/opensource bans AI-made and AI-focused projects and non-English speakers
I'm sorry, non-English speakers too?! da actual fuq?!
prologic··on Ask HN: How do you grow OSS projects?
When you figure this out, please let me know!
prologic··on TaskWire An MCP-based taskboard for managing AI agent workflows
Why do I need to pay for a plan for what appears to be a desktop app? Is the Taskboard a remote SaaS over the Internet that I configure my other Claude/Codex agents to to to and the Desktop App is, what, just a frontend to what's going on?
prologic··on Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab
public repos don't have to be scraped or cralwed all over by bots right?
prologic··on Why Gopher in 2026?
I still think Gopher (the protocol that is) is still very relevant today. The beauty of it really is in its simplicity. Great to see that the library I wrote all those years ago is still being used :D

prologic··on Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab
Did this back in ~2021 for my own repos :D https://prologic.blog/posts/2021-07-11-why-i-no-longer-trust...
prologic··on Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab
Or Microsoft/OpenAI (and others) just blatantly scraping all your codebases and violating thousands of OSS licneses?
prologic··on AI gets about 10x cheaper every year
Why am I still paying the same $amount for Claude to Anthropic for the past 2 years? Shouldn't it have gone down by at least 10% by now?!
prologic··on HelixSync – Self-hosted, end-to-end encrypted browser sync
Android and thus Chromium only right? No way to support Safari / Mobile Safari and macOS / iOS?
prologic··on Show HN: Free Online Image Tools
Is this just Imagemagick under the hood with a fancy Web interface?
prologic··on One Must Fall 2097 Remastered
This has to be one of my most favourite MS-DOS games growing up. Too bad I can't seem to figure out how to play this Web version, the controls seem a bit off?
prologic··on What's Wrong with AI?
Rant aside; I think there's a reasonable argument buried in here: making everything easier doesn't necessarily make life better, and we should be more critical of the incentives driving AI adoption.
prologic··on Cracking Anubis Challenges
I've seen it happen countless times through logs. They just don't care if there's a PoW in the way, they just solve it anyway and move on. When you control a botnet of 10s of thousands of compromised residential machines (residential proxies I believe they're called), you almost have very little recourse except to make it cheap or detect the pattern adn block it (not trivial).
prologic··on Practical Compiler Construction – Nils M Holm
Crenshaw's books are also pretty good too -- even if a bit outdated by now.
prologic··on Ask HN: Linux at work revoked due to MDM, how to fight?
You can't, and you should not fight this. Just use the machine(s) they give you, accept the MDM.
prologic··on PSA: Do not use term "vibe coding"
It's also become insulting and a bit of a slur. We need to stop doing this. It's disrepsectful.
prologic··on Practical Compiler Construction – Nils M Holm
I still think the best books on interpreter and compiler implemtnations are the books by Thorsten Ball:

- Writing an Interpreter in Go [1]

- Writing a Compiler in Go [2]

Absolutely best books I've ever read on the subject. And if you like to follow a step-by-step (each commit is a part of the boks) feel free to clone my own monkey-lang that followed the books pretty closely: https://git.mills.io/prologic/monkey

prologic··on Cracking Anubis Challenges
Yeah, I implement PoW on my Edge nodes as well, which connect back to my self-hosted infra over Wireguard tunnels. The PoW works very similarly to Anubis, but practically speaking, they don't really work. Whole swarths of botnets, including botnets that utilise residential proxies (thousands of comprised desktops in poorer countries) just solve the PoW(s) and get through anyway at massive scale.

The only effective way I've found to combat "unwanted traffic" (bots, botnets, crawlers, search engines, etc) is to a) make request/responses as cheap as possible (heavy caching, rate limiting, etc) and b) measure cohorts, fingerprints and behaviour and block patterns that can't possibly look like "normal human traffic" (tricky to get right, but this is to a large extent what Cloudflare is doing I believe, and I've had great success with this technique and building out an OSS Caddy module for this...)

prologic··on No One Needs Us Anymore – Claude Opus 5.5 Music Video
What is a life for, if there's nothing left to prove.

Nice song :D

prologic··on Ask HN: Is charging for software a thing of the past?
No, not really. There's plenty of software out there that you still pay for, or pay a license for. e.g: LittleSnitch, Jetbrains IDe, Plex, Final Cut Pro, etc
prologic··on Ask HN: Best value/money AI coding plan bundle?
Honestly. Just buy the Claude Prox 5x plan. it works great.
prologic··on KillSwitch-Bench
We've seen KillSwitch 3 times now (https://news.ycombinator.com/from?site=killswitch-lang.org)

Four if you include: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50135762

prologic··on CutefishOS Is Back with a Qt-Free, GTK-Free Vibe-Coded Desktop
Regardless of how it was built, it's actually pretty cool to see actually. I've dabbled a little bit in Wayland and compositors in some attempts to build Wayland apps with some success.
prologic··on Harness Engineering 101: The LLM is the brain, the harness is the body
Good set of resources here!
prologic··on Jpgahagan
wut?!
prologic··on Ask HN: How to speed up code-reviews?
What @pluc said basically. You could use stuff like https://bte.mills.io and https://git.mills.io/prologic/squint to help test/validate the "behaviour" of what is being developed/built. Try to think of yourself as the "Product Designer" and "Product Owner". Worry less about the _actual_ code itself, and more about how the software/product behaves. Write specifications that can be validated and ask yoru favourite coding assistant to ensure that those are validated.
