prottmann··on The Battle for Wesnoth needs help
For the most companies your specified reasons are used to start with a clean fresh new Version 2.

New System, new Language, use the good parts rewrite the bad parts.

And new Language would make it more interesting for "younger" developer that start with e.g. Rust / Go / Whatever. (That did not mean the code will be better)

prottmann··on Show HN: Retroospect – How was your work week?
To know this use http://teamspir.it - Logbook for Teams
prottmann··on Show HN: Diff.io
apt-get install the services and use them on my server ;-)
prottmann··on Did I ever mention that I fucking hate the fucking web
Be glad that google is not the perfect company, all other would have no chance ;)
prottmann··on Zenefits (YC W13) Just Raised $500M at a $4.5B Valuation
Why apple then need foxconn ?
prottmann··on A web-reading bot made millions on the options market

prottmann··on Show HN: Corrello – Dashboards and Reports for Trello
Thanks, ok this usecase i can comprehend.
prottmann··on Show HN: Corrello – Dashboards and Reports for Trello
I was wondering more about the use case: are there really so many agencies that manage Trello content for other companies?

For Facebook-Pages, Twitter, google, Instagram,... i know it, but Trello?

prottmann··on The sad state of sysadmin in the age of containers
But you assume that a container HAS full network access. A firewall must be configured, but a firewall must be configured for a VM too. My point is, that their is not so a huge difference for production systems.
prottmann··on The sad state of sysadmin in the age of containers
The same trust i have in a VM or a RM.
prottmann··on The sad state of sysadmin in the age of containers
The obvious question is: what's the real problem with that?

A container is a container, as long as docker itself has not bug, the container can only harm the containers content.

Most problems exists in the custom created software in the container (e.g. web-services with bugs, backdoors, ....), this will be a problem for Docker, VMs, Real-Servers, whatever too.

The real problem is the interoperability of different container, if you link the whole data, without any audit, to another container, you can have a problem, but this problem is not docker specific.

prottmann··on A proof of concept MongoDB clone built on Postgres
Could be interessting for meteor.com, the mongodb only usage prevent me to use it.
prottmann··on An API is only as good as its documentation
Not enough. Its more fun to create software, but documentation is the part that no one likes. It is absolutely necessary, in particular when other work with your code.

And we have many stages of documentation: the project documentation (what is it, what does it, how, ...), the code doc, the rest-api doc. And it get really complex on further development. I think that is one reason for the small JS project explosion on npm / github of the last years.

prottmann··on Slack Chats
Yes, like reddit, ycombinator, facebook, whatsapp and all others.
prottmann··on HippyVM goes to Y Combinator and fails
That is correct, but how huge is the benefit of HippyVM over a "classic" optimizer, which cost nothing ?
prottmann··on Goodbye MongoDB, Hello PostgreSQL
That is then not a problem of the SQL-Language, it is more a problem of the database design.

When you need really complex queries, you should think about a new db structure.

prottmann··on Computing is too easy
And if you not know the exactly name?

Example i type "browser" -> nothing found. And i am absolutely sure i have installed chrome, seamonkey and ie. ;)

prottmann··on Computing is too easy
"fluid and intuitive" I must laugh at this too. I need a search tool to find my installed programs and settings. Most of the time i need google to find out, if a changeable setting exists ;)

Operating systems are stupid since many years, on every new Version i think "god, please change not too much", cause on every new Version things not getting better and not easier and not smoother.

Yes, they look nicer, they have more "blink" and more animations, but all of this not help me to work better or faster.

prottmann··on Why Is My Smart Home So Dumb?
The problem is, that they want sell you something that you have to pay again and again -> vendor lock, you must use their tools / services / clouds / whatever.

Things that just work for 10 or more years, omg! ;)

But you are absolutely right!. I did not automate anything at home with separate hard/software, because currently it solves no problem for me.

We need not a smart home, we need an intelligent home without controlling or programming everything.

A house/appartment has to recognize if nobody is at home and turn off the light or heating. I dont wanna do that with my smartphone and i dont want controll everything.

prottmann··on Show HN: Msngr.js, a messaging library for JavaScript
What is the benefit of msngr compared to other pub/sub libraries like AmplifyJS (https://github.com/appendto/amplify) or Postal (https://github.com/postaljs/postal.js).

Both of them are battle tested and have a big community.

prottmann··on Node v0.12.0 (Stable)
Yep, io.js v1.1 works really fine and i switched too.
prottmann··on Flux Comparison by Example
Thank you! Yesterday i thought about something similar -> a comparison of different flux implementations with an example (and not with a todo-app).

I tried some sample apps in the last weeks with reflux, fluxxor and now marty to see the practical differences.

prottmann··on Game Development in Go
"Over Quota This application is temporarily over its serving quota. Please try again later."

Lol, last time i have seen such a message was ten years ago ;-)

prottmann··on Marty.js – A JavaScript library for state management in React applications
Thanks, i will have a closer look.

The integrated data fetching and data flow extension sounds interesting, at the moment i use superagent with the mentioned callbacks and events to visualize (it is not comfortable).

prottmann··on Marty.js – A JavaScript library for state management in React applications
Can't see a difference between marty and fluxxor.

The examples look for me the same, except some additional functions to declare things.

prottmann··on Show HN: JSON-based standard for job posts
Sure? See postings above.
prottmann··on Show HN: My Personal Hacker News Reader

Both answers are not helpfull for a non dev ;)
