ptah··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
this is impacting scientific research to the point that people are scrubbing the word "gender" from their papers to avoid their research programs getting flagged by the doge gestapo
ptah··on A botnet is taken down in an operation by Microsoft, not the government
yes, exactly! you get it.
ptah··on A botnet is taken down in an operation by Microsoft, not the government
i'm not saying they do it intentionally. i am saying that they should deal with the consequences and not let taxpayers take the downside while they take the upside
ptah··on EU plans 'right to repair' rules for phones and tablets
they should focus on making rules around product obsolescence. phones and computers should work with latest OS for 10 years or more
ptah··on A botnet is taken down in an operation by Microsoft, not the government
they produce software that is vulnerable to exploitation by criminals
ptah··on A botnet is taken down in an operation by Microsoft, not the government
why is this surprising? because they are cleaning up a mess of their own making instead of making taxpayers foot the bill?
ptah··on Elon Musk says college is 'basically for fun and not for learning'
not so sure. the way of thinking i got from university professors has been invaluable. it is the meta-skills that count
ptah··on Everyone's a Socialist in a Pandemic
a lot of government money goes into vaccine creation.

EDIT: socialism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive

ptah··on Detroit to restore water to allow people to wash hands to avoid coronavirus
there is no material difference: if your water is cutoff, the reason does not matter. it just seems incredibly shortsighted to put the entire population in danger because of a few dollars
ptah··on Detroit to restore water to allow people to wash hands to avoid coronavirus
please explain how someone that has their water cut off still has access to water
ptah··on Detroit to restore water to allow people to wash hands to avoid coronavirus
that's barbaric
ptah··on Engineered healthier sugar that tastes good
> His team also started out by giving them to potential clients, only to routinely hear it didn’t work. “Rarely is our ingredient properly used,”

it sounds like it needs some other ingredients. possibly it makes starch break down to sugar quicker? like what saliva does to starch?

ptah··on ARMed mac: not again or for real this time?
the problem comes in when your apps break and the only way to fix them is to fork out even more money for software upgrades. for music production i have been badly burnt and have moved to hardware synth that will last decades and a mac with logic that will never see another upgrade ever.
ptah··on Payments on mortgages to be suspended across Italy after coronavirus outbreak
the money is not from other entities. it is literally made up based on a fraction of the reserves the bank holds.

ptah··on Payments on mortgages to be suspended across Italy after coronavirus outbreak
not sure why you are being downvoted as if fractional reserve banking is not the status quo
ptah··on South Korea is composting its way to sustainability
when they die they become plant food
ptah··on South Korea is composting its way to sustainability
composting worms tend to stay where the food is. they are different from earthworms
ptah··on Trading halted as U.S. stocks plummet
how is this "circuit breaker" meant to help? surely it will just fuel emotions and make things worse if people can't get rid of stock they don't want?
ptah··on South Korea is composting its way to sustainability
have you tried putting the worm bins directly into the soil with the bottom cut out? It is a permaculture technique and i believe the soil keeps temperature relatively stable. I am in scotland and it never gets below -4 degrees celsius or above 25.

ptah··on South Korea is composting its way to sustainability

why would you use a business vehicle to transport a family
ptah··on Farmers Fight John Deere over Who Gets to Fix an $800k Tractor
maybe not a percentage cut of revenue but some kind of SAAS-like pricing model?
ptah··on Farmers Fight John Deere over Who Gets to Fix an $800k Tractor
possibly a market for replacing this software with open source versions?

ptah··on Folding@home takes up the fight against COVID-19
to me "inhibit" means more like dampening or lessening something while "prohibit" means stopping something completely
ptah··on Please stop recommending Gitflow
> Ok, so my team shouldn’t use gitflow. What should we use? I can’t answer that.

this article is worse than useless. it's just a rant about inconveniences without any solutions
