puelocesar··on Resisting Cognitive Surrender
> The quality of what we provide seems to matter 0, we are up about 40% issues in prod year-to-year but the users and their engagement is also growing.

Sorry for going into a tangent here, but I'm actually unsure if I hate the structures and economic incentives that makes this possible, or if I hate you specifically for defending something so rotten

Next time I rage at some broken UI in some damn service I'm forced to use because that's where people are, I'll remember this comment

puelocesar··on The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks
> One of my pet peeves with the web development community is that so many of the decisions we make are vibes-based. ... All of this breathless boasting is usually offered with zero evidence

AI aside, this is something that bothered me a lot when I was forced to migrate from pure native mobile (swift) to React Native.

People would take the promotional talk of some SDK as truth without ever measuring and then being confused on why the whole app was slow (it CANNOT be XYZ, because XYZ developer says the are super fast!!)

Luckily my team was able to accept when I provided hard data (said framework was locking the JS thread for 200ms, sometimes a full second, for some operations, which rendered the all the UI laggy as hell).

“Instead, let’s spend trillions in building chat bots to get people out of their jobs”
puelocesar··on DeepSeek banned from U.S. federal civilian agencies under new DHS order
Glad someone is pointing this out here on this community. I keep reading about people "solving" the problem of LLMs outputting too much code that's hard to review by not doing human review at all!
puelocesar··on Orkut.com
Which honestly would be a very good thing
puelocesar··on DeepSeek Harness Desktop for macOS and Windows
Exactly, sometimes when reading Hacker News I get the impression this thing is a cult. Luckily there's still some dissident voice around to keep it interesting
puelocesar··on Coding is not solved
Thanks for the reference, this explains a lot of bad interactions I had in my jobs along the years.
puelocesar··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
You have to understand the president position is extremely weak, since he’s a centrist posing as left wing, there’s a lot of scrutiny on all his actions and he has very little support in congress, since it’s a very conservative country politically dominated by evangelicals and big farmers.

Blocking Facebook would be deeply damaging for him, they would quick him out even before the election

puelocesar··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
I always said that AI is dangerous not because it's superintelligence will threaten humanity, but because some dumb/lazy people will overestimate it's abilities and use it where they should not.

This is just one more example of it. I'm waiting for even more disastrous ones.

puelocesar··on ZuckOff is a free app that sees Meta glasses before they see you

puelocesar··on Xcode 27.1 Beta Release Notes
Ok, I’ll test that, but I think we are using the safe areas correctly
puelocesar··on US Military had close call after using AI for hallucinated intelligence report
I always said that AI could cause human extinction not by being too smart, but by doing dumb things because some stupid human overestimated its capabilities and used it where it should not.
puelocesar··on Xcode 27.1 Beta Release Notes
I’m not sure about this, we already support resizing on our app for a while now because of our iPad/mac catalyst version, so I fail to see how different it would be on the Duo.

I assume other apps will have have the same, since our team is super small compared to everyone else.

puelocesar··on AI is an elite crime spree
The article itself answers the second question.

That Aaron Swartz guy was prosecuted so hard for downloading some academic papers, he killed himself.

Meanwhile, AI companies are free to steal literally any content they want and nothing will ever happens with them.

puelocesar··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Ah, this remembers me when I was also young and naive.

Good times when we thought the internet would be great for democracy because knowledge would be easily available for everyone. Fast forward to 2026 and even the leader of terrible communist regime like China is looking better than the shitheads we got on the democratic west..

puelocesar··on I am no longer letting Claude Code add itself as Co-author in my commits
> you have to use it at work unless you want to go out the door

Why people are so compelled to gospel about their saviors to others? Why tech became a cult?

puelocesar··on No AI Fridays
So basically you created a Slop Maker..

I mean, you do you I guess..

puelocesar··on GLM-5.3-Flash
That $20 price is heavily subsidized to addict people like you. Their plan is that once people are addicted to it, they can just increase prices.

Which now won't be possible because we have chinese open models to use instead.

I'm very curious about how long these US companies can keep on burning money like that.

puelocesar··on How credit card rewards became a $9.2B wealth transfer
And those same American companies want the US government to intervene in other countries to try to kill their local alternatives
puelocesar··on Government sponsored study on alcohol doesn't stand up to scrutiny
I almost completely stopped drinking because it hurts my surfing performance, and surfing so so much nicer then drinking, so it was a good trade off.

But I’m curious nonetheless, can you give some examples of those risks? I keep seeing people mentioning them, but haven’t seen many well informed reasonings

puelocesar··on Government sponsored study on alcohol doesn't stand up to scrutiny
But I don’t think you get obesity just by eating sugar, you get diabetes. Obesity depends on other factors and eating habits doesn’t it?
puelocesar··on AI Generated 3D Models Flood Market, but Almost No One Is Buying Them
At first I honestly didn't know if you were being ironic or not. Now I'm still unsure, but I'm pending towards believing you are.

Now, even if you are just joking around, this makes me wonder about how fucked up we are, if we have to admit there are real people out there who might actually really think like that.

Good job on that one.

puelocesar··on Flutter 3.47
Be careful, I’ve been using AI to translate my Swift code to Kotlin and sometimes it makes some mistakes that are invisible to you, because the languages are so similar, but it will bite you in the ass eventually, because there are subtle changes between the platforms
puelocesar··on Flutter 3.47
I was forced to migrate from pure native development to React Native and Redux is one of the stupidest things I ever witnessed. Or at least the way the previous devs setup that thing, because it’s so easy to make costly mistakes with it.

I lost so many days of my life profiling and debugging to figure out why hundreds of components were re-rendering when a tiny thing changed somewhere completely unrelated

puelocesar··on Tech leaders say AI means less work – staff say they work up to 90 hours a week
I think those people use drugs
puelocesar··on Amazonian civilization had estimated 3M people in 3% of forest area
220M is the whole country, which is much bigger than the Amazon.

Nowadays it's estimated the Amazon has around 46.9 million people. Much more than 3M, but still much less than your 220M

puelocesar··on Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc
"When Sony announced that they were discontinuing physical discs for PlayStation, I was less outraged than many. The reason I felt this way wasn't because I loved what Sony was doing. I think it came from an understanding that physical media ain't what it used to be."

But you are mixing Sony and Microsoft here. Sure, both are bad, but many PS disks are totally playable without internet connection.

puelocesar··on Sam Altman is now talking to the White House about decelerating AI
